This invention relates to a cap having an eye patch associated therewith, which is particularly designed for use by children.

There are many children who must keep one eye covered for a period of time as the result of an injury or because it is necessary to cover one eye while the other is being treated for the strengthening thereof. Patches of any type are annoying and uncomfortable for children, and many are too young to understand why such a patch must be worn, and remain where it is. The children, therefore, will tend to remove the patches, thus eliminating the beneficial results obtained through the use thereof.

An object of the invention therefore is to provide a cap that will snugly fit the wearer's head, and having a patch incorporated therewith, will retain the patch in position once the cap has been fastened securely on the wearers head.

Another object of the invention is to provide a cap that is light in weight and will not cause undue discomfort in hot weather.

With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:

Figure l is a front view of an embodiment of the invention as applied to a childs head;

Figure 2 is a rear View thereof;

Figure 3 is a view of right side;

Figure 4 is a view of the left side;

Figure 5 is a detailed view of the front of a buckle and Figure 6 is a detailed view of the rear of a buckle.

Referring more in detail to the drawing, the reference numeral I0 designates generally the cap which comprises the back or rear section [2, having the substantially spherical shaped portion l4 and the inwardly curved edged tail portion [6, and this section enables the cap to conform more readily to a childs head 18 as shown, and the lower edge 20 of this section terminates at the nape or base of the childs head.

Secured to the rear section l2 along the seam 22 by stitching or the like is the center section 24 which outlines the childs face, and covering the childs ears, terminates in a line with the lower end of the section l2.

The patch 26 is secured to the front of the center section along the seam 28 and. this seam and seam 22 are fiat felled in order that the cap can be reversed to cover either eye.

One end of a tape 30 is secured to a lower corner of the center section 24, and passing under the childs chin, holds the cap in place, where a rubber buckle 32 is provided on the opposite end corner for fastening the opposite end of the tape.

The patch is provided with concave shaped edges 34, and at the point 36 a tape 38 extends outwardly thereof to be received in the rubber buckle 40 which is fastened on the lower corner of this center section to which the end of the tape 36 is secured. stiffening is applied to the patch so that it will curve outwardly, and not contact the eyeball.

The cap is worn in the conventional manner and being able to be reversed can be used to cover either the right or left eye.

Thus a cap has been provided that will accomplish the objects of the invention, and it is believed that the construction and use of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art.

It is also to be understood that changes in the minor details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to, provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.

Having thu described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

A device of the character described comprising a head covering for a childs head which in head engaging position has a rear edge extending along the nape of the neck and a front edge following the hair line on the forehead and extending downwardly along the jaw of the childs face to the opposite ends of said rear edge, an eye covering patch secured along one edge thereof to a portion of the front edge of the head covering extending from one of the rear ends to a point beyond the central portion of said front edge, the opposite edge of said patch extending over one eye and divided into two concave shaped edge portions which converge at a central point adjacent the nose of the childs face to permit full view of the eye not covered by the patch and full use of the childs mouth, and means connected to the rear ends of the rear edge of the head covering and the central point of the two concave shaped edge portions of said patch for retaining said head covering and patch in place on the childs head.
