Description

Nov. 26, 1935. I P E 2,022,597
SHOE-MAKER'S LAST Filed April 9, 1935 FIG. 7.
g 7w Mm Patented Nov. 26, 1935 UNlTED STATES PATENT OFFICE SHOEMAKER.S LAST Paul Hein, Berlin-JohannisthaL' Germany Application April 9, 1935, Serial No. 15,475 In Germany February 18, 1933 The invention r the kind in which there extending from the front tion forward towards the 2 Claims.
elates to shoemakers lasts of is in the sole a cavity edge of the heel porball.
According to the invention this cavity is made to terminate, at the inside of the heel portion,
in a. moderately steep slope rising to a crest formed at that part of the position that it will heel, the crest being in such produce in the shoe a slope 0 in the region supported by the heel.
The eifect of the construction referred to is to lift the foot on the inside of the erably the lift is made to extend heel, and prefforward to the ball of the small toe, by means of a metatarsal, ankle and ball support, which is accurately seated and held in position in the cavity by abutting against the slope produced in the shoe by means of the crest. The weight on the arch of the foot is reduced by transferring a large part thereof to the heel.
A last constructed according to the invention is shown by way of example in the accompanying drawing, the same being a last for the left foot.
Fig. 1 is an elevation inner side, and
Fig. 2 is an elevation outer side.
thereof, viewed from the thereof, viewed from the of Fig. 1.
In the drawing ferent directions.
a designates the body of the hereinbefore referred to, inside of the heel cap 0. at different angles in dif- Toward the right hand side (or inside) of the shoe, in the direction indicated by the arrow 0 in slope. slope is gradual.
Figs. 3 and 4, there is a steep In the opposite direction (arrow p) the In the direction toward the ball of the foot there is a moderately steep slope at to the front edge e with the rear porti forwardly towards the last. Thus an of the heel cap, at and joined on of the cavity which extends the ball at the outer side of elastic instep support 7, made in one piece or several pieces and extending rearwards beyond the arch, can rest directly against the crest and is by thismeans maintained in a predetermined position in the cavity. The support will consequently not only afford support to the foot but will also keep it straight.
Notwithstanding the special shape given to the last, according to the invention, the heels used for the shoes may be of the customary kind.
I claim:
1. A shoemakers last having a cavity formed in the sole of the last extending forwardly from adjacent the inner side of the heel portion in a slanting direction across the last to that portion of the last corresponding to the location or 15 the ball of the little toe of a foot when in a shoe made on the last, the heel portion of the last having a dome-shaped elevation adjacent the inner side thereof terminating in a crest spaced rearwardly from the forward edge of the heel 29 portion, and the said elevation providing a relatively steeply sloped surface at the forward side thereof within the area of the heel portion, which surface extends forwardly to and merges gradually into said concavity.
2. A shoemakers last having a cavity formed in the sole of the last extending from the forward side of the heel portion adjacent the inner side of such portion, across the last to that portion thereof corresponding to the ball of the little toe, the heel portion of the last formed with a dome-shaped elevation adjacent the inner side thereof terminating in a. crest spaced rearwardly from the forward edge of the heel portion, said elevation providing a relatively steeply sloped surface at the forward side thereof which extends forwardly to and joins with said cavity and on its outer side provides a surface sloping upwardly across the heel portion of the last to the outer side thereof, and the said cavity slanted outwardly across the sole of the last between such heel portion elevation and the location of the ball of the little toe of a foot.
