INVENTOR v A B .l0 4 5 l I ATTORNEY EDWFIRD HDDDERSEN Patented Nov. 26, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to Shaving outiits and more particularly constitutes a container for Shaving implements and provides blade sharpeners.
An object of the invention is to make a combined low cost structure providing blade sharpeners so positioned that they respond to a onehand grip while the spacing required to provide the one-hand grip is employed in the formation of implement pockets so positioned that they do not interfere with the blade Sharpeners but rather cooperate to enforce the proper manipulation of a blade during sharpening.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cheap blade Sharpener capable of imparting a peculiar action associated with a diagonal stroke upon a strop.
The above and other advantages of my invention will be clear from the complete description of my invention read in connection with the accompanying drawings. The claim is directed to the disclosed embodiment of my invention not for the purpose of limiting it but for illustrative purposes.
In the drawings, Fig. 1, drawn to an enlarged scale, is a perspective View of an embodiment of my invention in use; Fig. 2 is a vertical section of an embodiment having slightly different proportions and being provided with an enclosing cover; and Fig. 3 iS a horizontal section through III- III of Fig. 2, with the top cover l5 removed.
Preferably a mass of molten glass is molded into the mug-Shaped body A provided with a handle l. Preferably arranged in pairs are four cylindrically concave blade Sharpeners 2, 3, 4 and 5, the Sharpeners 2 and 4 having externally curved diagonal ribs 6, while the blade sharpeners 3 and 5 are provided with a smooth finish. To lighten the structure and aid in the suggestion of the mug-like coniiguration that it should be held, for sharpening purposes, in an upright position, the body between the blade Sharpeners is formed into pockets 1, 8, 9 and I0 which may be shaped suitably as containers for the usual shaving implements, such as the razor Il, paste tube 5 l2, package of blades I3 and shaving brush i4. All functioning parts may be enclosed when not in use and as when traveling, by a snugly fitting iiber cover l5. An important advantage of the invention is in the spacing of the opposite wall 10 portions 4 and 5 and 3 and 2. The separation is a hand grip apart So that the human hand B may grasp a razor blade I6 with its thumb, pressing it against the blade Sharpener 4, while the four iingers grip the wall portion 5. This provides l5 the necessary reaction for the thumb to impart a skillful sharpening action to the blade I6 relatively to the Sharpener 4. The blade is shown being sharpened on the blade Sharpener having the diagonal corrugations or ribs 6 6. When the 20 condition of the blade warrants no more than smoothing out its ragged edges, a similar hand grip is provided between the Sharpener 3 for the thumb 20 and the Sharpener 2 for the four fingers 2|.
It is, of course, to be understood that the invention is not limited to two pairs of opposed blade Sharpeners and that any two of the blade sharpeners in the embodiment illustrated may be regarded as finger grip portions in cooperation 30
