A cosmetic brush device (30) comprises a brush sleeve (32) for inserting a replaceable cosmetic brush (20a, 20b, 20c), wherein the brush sleeve (32) has a substantially hollow-cylindrical shape in which a guide groove (34) extending in the axial direction is provided.

Description

  • The invention concerns an interchangeable cosmetic brush with a base body of substantially cylindrical form, on the end face of which brush bristles are arranged. The invention furthermore concerns a cosmetic brush device with a brush casing for insertion of an interchangeable cosmetic brush.
  • Cosmetic brushes differ greatly in size, shape and function, for which reason a plurality of different brush types may be used in a typical make-up application. Normally, cosmetic brushes have a single brush head, so three different functions in the application of make-up require the use of three separate cosmetic brushes. Some cosmetic brushes also have relatively bulky brush heads. Because of the delicate brush bristles, therefore, particular requirements are imposed on the storage and transport of these bushes. In the attempt to accommodate a large number of cosmetic brushes, a container, for example a sponge bag, is relatively large.
  • In particular on journeys and when travelling, cosmetic brushes must be transported compactly, and the delicate brush bristles must be protected as far as possible from all external influences. On the other hand, the make-up residue remaining in the brush head must not soil or dampen the container or surrounding transport goods.
  • From the prior art, various cosmetic brush devices are known for protecting the delicate brush bristles between uses and during transport of the cosmetic brush.
  • For easier transport and protection of cosmetic brushes, so-called brush mats are known. These can easily be rolled up and several brushes fitted in simultaneously. The brushes are placed in compartments provided for this and the mat is then rolled up. Because of its flexibility however, the brush mat does not offer adequate mechanical protection for the brush heads. Also, the brush heads must be dry before they can be stowed in the brush mat.
  • Also, brush boxes of rigid materials are known for storage of individual or a plurality of cosmetic brushes. These usually cylindrical cosmetic brush holders can be split into two separate parts, each of which may serve as a cup-shaped holder for the cosmetic brush. When the two parts are assembled however, the problem arises that the upper part must be pushed over the delicate brush heads (against the direction of the brush bristles). Often, the brush bristles are bent and the brush head thus damaged. Brush boxes also do not offer any possibility of fixing the cosmetic brush during movement. If the brush box is placed upside down, a cosmetic brush located therein also stands on its brush bristles, which also leads to damage to the brush head.
  • On this basis, according to the invention, an interchangeable cosmetic brush is disclosed herein, including advantageous refinements.
  • Firstly, some terminology is explained:
  • A brush is a tool for applying liquid or powdery substances, such as for example powder. The term “cosmetic brush” is a collective term for all brushes which are used in beauty care for women or men. Brushes usually consist of three parts, namely the brush bristles forming the brush head, the handle, and a so-called clip which connects the handle and brush bristles together. The present invention refers to brush bristles which are arranged on a base body, wherein the base body may comprise both the handle and also a clip.
  • Cosmetic brushes include for example powder brushes, eyeshadow brushes, eyeliner brushes, make-up brushes, blender brushes, outlining brushes and shaving brushes. All these brushes have brush bristles which may be made for example from pony hair, natural hair, synthetic nylon hair or horsehair, and form a relatively bulky brush head. In cosmetic brushes, the circumference of the brush head is often greater than the circumference of the handle.
  • The term “cosmetic brush device” includes both devices in which cosmetic brushes can be stored or stowed, and those which can be used together with the cosmetic brushes for application. For example, a cosmetic brush device and an interchangeable cosmetic brush may be connected together such that the cosmetic brush device forms the handle of the cosmetic brush.
  • According to the invention, the base body has a guide pin protruding in the radial direction. The guide pin is provided to bring the cosmetic brush into active connection with the cosmetic brush device. The cylindrical base body may thus be introduced into or removed from a cosmetic brush device axially with a predefined orientation. The cosmetic brush device may for example be a hollow cylindrical (brush) casing. By rotating the base body about its own axis, the guide pin may be latched into devices provided for it. The guide pin may engage in a guide provided in the brush casing and latch in an established position so that, viewed in cross-section, the round base body is connected stationarily and rotationally fixedly to the cosmetic brush device. The base body is thus brought into a lockable or releasable and movable engagement with the cosmetic brush device by means of the guide pin.
  • Preferably, the guide pin is configured for engagement in a guide groove of a cosmetic brush device. In this embodiment, by the engagement of the guide pin in the guide groove, the entire interchangeable cosmetic brush may be moved along the guide groove of the cosmetic brush device. The base body can be inserted completely, i.e. with its cross-section and/or its height for example, in a protective sleeve/brush casing. The insertion of the guide pin in the groove prevents twisting of the interchangeable cosmetic brush in the brush casing. Via the guide pin, the cosmetic brush is guided in the interior of the brush casing.
  • The guide pin may additionally comprise a control portion at an end facing away from the base body. Preferably, the length of the guide pin between the base body and the control portion corresponds at least to the wall thickness of the brush casing. The guide pin and/or the control portion thus protrudes through the guide groove. The control portion may protrude relative to the brush casing when the guide pin is in engagement with the guide groove. This allows simple (manual) guidance of the interchangeable cosmetic brush in the cosmetic brush device by a user. The control portion essentially has the function of improving handling of the cosmetic brush and preventing accidental slipping or release of the connection to a cosmetic brush device. An operator for example uses his or her thumb to guide the cosmetic brush via the control portion. Because the control portion protrudes through the guide groove, a user is able to reach the control portion when the interchangeable cosmetic brush is fully inserted in the cosmetic brush device. For this, the control portion may preferably have a significantly larger cross-section than the guide groove, and/or a non-slip profile. Preferably, the control portion is configured as a flat cylindrical control element which is arranged centrally on the end of the guide pin. In this embodiment, the base body may be moved equally easily in each direction via the control element.
  • In an advantageous embodiment of the cosmetic brush, an axially displaceable protective sleeve is arranged on the base body. The protective sleeve can move in the axial direction and hence in the direction of the brush bristles, and serves as protection for the brush head. The protective sleeve also has the effect that it prevents liquid make-up from dripping down. Preferably, the protective sleeve has a substantially hollow cylindrical form with an outer diameter which is smaller than the base body, and is arranged concentrically to the base body. The shape of the brush head may also be adjusted by the position of the protective sleeve.
  • It is advantageous if the protective sleeve is movable reversibly between a first position in which the protective sleeve surrounds the brush bristles, and a second position in which the protective sleeve exposes the brush bristles. In the first position, the brush bristles are completely received in the protective sleeve and thus protected from external influences, in particular from bending. In this position, the brush bristles can be pressed together easily and evenly. If the protective sleeve is in the first position, for example a cover can be pushed from above over the protective sleeve without the risk of damaging the brush bristles. In the second position, the brush head may be used as intended. It is also possible to vary the shape of the brush head via e.g. intermediate positions which can be set steplessly or in steps.
  • The invention furthermore concerns a cosmetic brush device, in particular for stowage and use of an interchangeable cosmetic brush. The cosmetic brush device has a brush casing for connection of an interchangeable cosmetic brush as described above. The brush casing has a substantially hollow cylindrical form in which a guide groove is provided which extends in the axial direction. The guide groove serves to guide the guide pin of the interchangeable cosmetic brush. The brush casing may thus be connected to the interchangeable cosmetic brush only in a predefined orientation, namely when the guide groove has the same orientation as the guide pin. The guide groove also excludes an (undesired) twisting of the cosmetic brush in the cosmetic brush device. The guide groove preferably extends over the entire length of the brush casing. In this way, the cosmetic brush device guarantees that the interchangeable cosmetic brush can only be removed in a fixedly predefined orientation.
  • Along its longitudinal extent, the guide groove may have at least one latching channel extending in the radial direction, wherein the latching channel is preferably L-shaped. The latching channel serves as a latching possibility for a guide pin of a cosmetic brush. The latching channel may run substantially horizontally and hence perpendicularly to the guide groove, and at the end be bent over for example in an L-shape, for example parallel to the guide groove. The L-shaped latching channel reduces the risk of unintentional release of the cosmetic brush.
  • In an advantageous embodiment of the cosmetic brush device according to the invention, the guide groove provides latching possibilities for a guide pin of an interchangeable cosmetic brush in a usage position and in a stowage position. A latching possibility means any device which allows locking or fixing of the cosmetic brush, including in particular also magnetic locking or clamping. The cosmetic brush device may in principle fulfil two functions. Firstly, an interchangeable cosmetic brush may be completely received therein. Secondly, the brush casing may be used as a handle for a cosmetic brush. In the latter case, the base body of the cosmetic brush may be relatively small. In both cases, the guide pin of the cosmetic brush protruding from the base body is in engagement with the guide groove of the brush casing. When the cosmetic brush is inserted from above into the brush casing, it can be guided along the brush casing via the guide groove and leave the brush casing again along the guide groove. The cosmetic brush may thus be transferred from a usage position to a stowage position, and from the stowage position removed from the cosmetic brush device. The cosmetic brush should here always be moved against the direction of the bristles in order to avoid damage to the brush head.
  • In an advantageous embodiment of the invention, a cosmetic brush according to the invention is inserted in the cosmetic brush device, wherein the guide pin of the cosmetic brush is in engagement with the guide groove of the brush casing.
  • Preferably, the inner diameter of the brush casing substantially corresponds to an outer diameter of the base body of the cosmetic brush. In this way, the cosmetic brush is fixed in the radial direction inside the brush casing. Alternatively or additionally, the width of the guide groove may substantially correspond to a diameter of the guide pin. These embodiments allow as little play as possible between the brush casing and the interchangeable cosmetic brush. The cosmetic brush is thus always in an upright attitude with respect to the axial direction of the brush casing, which constitutes maximum protection for the delicate brush bristles.
  • Preferably, the guide groove has a plurality of latching channels or latching possibilities which are provided along the guide groove at different sites in the brush casing. Correspondingly, the shape of the brush head varies according to the insertion depth of the cosmetic brush in the brush casing. Differently shaped brush heads allow different functions in the application of make-up.
  • In an advantageous embodiment, the brush casing is configured such that it completely receives the base body and the brush bristles of the cosmetic brush, preferably of several cosmetic brushes. It is particularly important that the brush head is completely received in the brush casing in order to protect the delicate brush bristles from external influences. In the case of several cosmetic brushes, a corresponding distance must be provided between the cosmetic brushes in order to protect the brush bristles from the base bodies of adjacent interchangeable cosmetic brushes.
  • The cosmetic brush device may additionally have an upper and/or a lower cover element for pushing onto the brush casing. An upper and lower cover element seal the hollow cylindrical brush casing so that it can easily be transported. In addition, an inwardly protruding pin may be arranged on an inside of the cover element which, when the cover element is applied, engages in the guide groove of the brush casing and allows a mechanical locking between the cover element and the brush casing. The pin of the cover element may thus for example engage in a corresponding latching device by twisting of the cover element. The cover element is thus better protected from unintentional release. Preferably, in addition a sponge or similar is inserted in a cover element. Sponges are also used for spreading make-up or powder.
  • In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the cosmetic brush device comprises three interchangeable cosmetic brushes which are stowed in the brush casing; preferably, the cosmetic brushes have differently configured brush heads. This embodiment allows three different cosmetic brushes to be transported safely and compactly with a single transport device. The cosmetic brush device may be flexibly fitted with different cosmetic brushes. It is also possible to exchange individual cosmetic brushes.
  • The invention is now described as an example below with reference to the appended figures and according to advantageous embodiments.

  • FIG. 1 shows a cosmetic brush device 30 according to the invention (left) and three interchangeable cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c (right). The cosmetic brush device 30 shown is designed for the use of three cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c, but this is purely exemplary and may be adapted arbitrarily.
  • The cosmetic brush device 30 comprises a brush casing 32 for insertion of at least one interchangeable cosmetic brush 20. The brush casing 32 has a substantially hollow cylindrical form with a guide groove 34 extending in the axial direction. The guide groove 34 extends over the entire length of the brush casing 32. In the embodiment shown, the guide groove runs rectilinearly. The guide groove 34 extends effectively as a longitudinal slot between two opposing end faces of the tubular brush casing 32.
  • The guide groove 34 has several latching channels 35 a, 35 b, 35 c, 35 d at different positions along the longitudinal extent. In the exemplary embodiment shown, the latching channels 35 a, 35 b, 35 c, 35 d are formed substantially identically, but this is not obligatory. The latching channel 35 a, 35 b, 35 c, 35 d extends from the guide groove 34 as a branch initially vertically and then downward in a direction parallel to the guide groove 34.
  • On the right-hand side of FIG. 1, three cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c are shown. Each cosmetic brush 20 a, 20 b, 20 c comprises a base body 22 with substantially cylindrical form. Brush bristles 25 are arranged on an end face 24 of the base body 22 and form a brush head. The cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c shown in FIG. 1 differ inter alia in their brush head shape. Differently shaped brush heads fulfil different functions in make-up application.
  • The base body 22 of the cosmetic brush 20 a, 20 b, 20 c has a guide pin 28 protruding in the radial direction. This is superposed with a control portion 28 a in the illustration of FIG. 1. The control portion 28 a is situated at an end of the guide pin 28 facing away from the base body 22. The radially protruding guide pin 28 is designed for engagement in the guide groove 34. Its length in the radial direction thus corresponds approximately to the wall thickness of the brush casing 32.
  • The cosmetic brush 20 a shown at the top right in FIG. 1 additionally has a protective sleeve 26 which is displaceable in the axial direction. The interplay between the protective sleeve 26 and the base body 22 is illustrated in FIGS. 2a and 2b . The protective sleeve 26 is formed substantially hollow cylindrically and is arranged concentrically to the base body 22. The outer diameter of the protective sleeve 26 is smaller than the outer diameter of the base body 22. A control element 26 a is arranged in a lower region of the protective sleeve 26. The control element 26 a protrudes radially relative to the protective sleeve 26. When the protective sleeve 26 is connected to the base body 22 of the cosmetic brush 20 a, the control element 26 a engages in a recess of the base body 22 provided for this. When the control element 26 a and the recess of the base body 22 are in engagement, the protective sleeve 26 can be moved relative to the base body 22 between a first position in which the protective sleeve 26 surrounds the brush bristles (not shown), and a second position in which the protective sleeve exposes the brush bristles (not shown).
  • FIG. 3 shows three cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c in their state inserted in the brush casing 32. The brush casing 32 is indicated merely schematically. The cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c are for this inserted successively in the brush casing 32 so that the guide pin 28 is in engagement with the guide groove 34. Via the control portion 28 a, the cosmetic brush 20 a, 20 b, 20 c can be moved in the axial direction along the guide groove 34 up to a proposed position in the brush casing. By twisting the cosmetic brush 20 a, 20 b, 20 c, the guide pin 28 is transferred into the latching channel 35 a, 35 b, 35 c, 35 d where it can engage. The cosmetic brush 20 a, 20 b, 20 c is then in the latched state. The next cosmetic brush 20 a, 20 b, 20 c is then also inserted in the brush casing 32 from above with the base body 22 at the front, and moved along the guide groove 34 to the desired position. The position depends on whether the cosmetic brush 20 a, 20 b, 20 c is to be used or stowed. The cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c shown in FIG. 3 are all in a stowed state.
  • FIG. 4 shows the components of a cosmetic brush device 30 according to the invention in a non-assembled state, with a lower cover element 39, a lower cosmetic brush 20 c, a middle cosmetic brush 20 b, a brush casing 32, an upper cosmetic brush 20 a with protective sleeve 26, and an upper cover element 38. In order to assemble the components shown in FIG. 4, for example for transport of the cosmetic brush device 30, firstly the lower cosmetic brush 20 c, then the middle cosmetic brush 20 b and finally the upper cosmetic brush 20 a are each inserted in the brush casing 32, moved along the guide groove 34 and engaged at a proposed position. Then the upper and lower cover elements 38, 39 may be placed on the brush casing 32. The upper and/or lower cover elements 38, 39 may additionally have an inwardly protruding pin (not shown) on the inside, which, on application of the cover element 38, 39 onto the brush casing 32, engages in the guide groove 39 and can be latched at a predefined position. In order to protect the brush head of the upper cosmetic brush 20 a during application of the upper cover element 38, the use of a protective sleeve 26 may be provided. The protective sleeve 26 also prevents the escape of liquid make-up residue.
  • In FIG. 5, the cosmetic brush device 30 is shown in a partially assembled state. The individual cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c are already arranged at the proposed positions. In a next step, the respective guide pins 28 are moved aside via the control element 28 a so that, in this embodiment, the base body 22 performs a rotational movement counterclockwise. The guide pins 28 are thus transferred to the latching channels 35 a, 35 b, 35 c, 35 d in which they engage. The lower cosmetic brush 20 c and the middle cosmetic brush 20 b are completely received in the brush casing 32. The distance between the cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c in the brush casing 32 should be selected such that the brush head of a lower cosmetic brush 20 c is not in contact with the base body 22 of a cosmetic brush 20 b situated above it. In this embodiment, the upper cosmetic brush 20 a is received solely with the lower part of the base body 22 in the brush casing 32. The insertion depth shown is however merely exemplary and may vary from embodiment to embodiment. The top cosmetic brush 20 a is provided with a protective sleeve 26 since the brush bristles 25 protrude axially with respect to the brush casing 32. The protective sleeve 26 is therefore pushed over the brush bristles 25 from below, carefully pressing the brush bristles 25 together. In this position of the protective sleeve 26, the cover element 38 may be applied from above onto the brush casing 32 without damaging the brush head. Also, a lower cover element (not shown) may be pushed onto the brush casing 32 from below. The lower cover element may have an opening for the control element 28 a which protrudes in a radial direction with respect to the brush casing 32. A sponge may also be inserted in the lower cover element 39.
  • FIG. 6 shows the cosmetic brush device 30 in a fully assembled, transportable state. The brush casing 32 is closed at both end faces by cover elements 38, 39. The upper cover element 38 may have a pin (not shown) arranged on an inside, wherein, when the cosmetic brush device 30 is in an assembled state, the pin engages in the upper latching channel 35 d. The upper cover element 38 is thus fixedly connected to the brush casing 32 and also secured against unintentional release. Three cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c are arranged inside the brush casing 32, and their respective guide pins 28 are in engagement with the guide groove 34. In order to latch the cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c at the proposed positions along the guide groove 34, the guide pin may be transferred into the latching channel 35 a, 35 b, 35 c, 35 d as a latching possibility. The cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c arranged in the brush casing 32 are thus protected compactly and as well as possible from external influences. The cosmetic brush device 30 may now easily be transported without the risk of damaging the brush heads or distributing make-up residue from the brush heads to surrounding transport goods.
  • In order to use the cosmetic device 30 shown in FIG. 6 for the application of make-up, firstly the corresponding cosmetic brush 20 a, 20 b, 20 c is extracted from the brush casing 32. If for example the middle cosmetic brush 20 b is to be used, firstly the lower cover element 39 is removed. The lower cosmetic brush 20 c is manually maneuvered out of the L-shaped latching channel 35 c until the guide pin 28 is again in engagement with the guide groove 34 and may then be moved down and withdrawn from the brush casing 32. In the same way, firstly the middle cosmetic brush 20 b and then the upper cosmetic brush 20 a are removed from the brush casing 32. The second cosmetic brush 20 b is then inserted from above, with the base body 22 first, into the brush casing 32 such that the guide pin 28 is in engagement with the guide groove 34, and the guide pin 28 is moved to the top latching channel 35 d and inserted therein. When the cosmetic brush 20 b is engaged in the top latching channel 35 d, the cosmetic brush device 30 as a whole may be used as a cosmetic brush. The brush casing 32 forms the handle of the cosmetic brush 20 b. According to the invention, therefore, the base body 22 of each cosmetic brush may be dimensioned very small since the cosmetic brush device 30 itself forms a handle.
  • It should be ensured that the cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c are always moved through the brush casing 32 against the brush bristle direction, i.e. with the base body 22 first. After use of a cosmetic brush 20 a, 20 b, 20 c, this is released from the latching position and may then be removed from the brush casing 32. The cosmetic brush device 30 may then be assembled either such that another cosmetic brush 20 a, 20 b, 20 c is used, or the cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c are again stowed in the brush casing 32 so as to be transportable.
  • The cosmetic brush device 30 described above has a high degree of flexibility and versatility, since the individual cosmetic brushes 20 a, 20 b, 20 c may be replaced and exchanged arbitrarily.
