Description

Patented Nov. 12, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CONDIMENT HOLDER Robert M. Currie, Carbon-ado, Wash.
Application November 24, 1934, Serial No. 754,567
2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in condiment holders and has for its object to provide a holder divided by a central partition to provide separate compartments, each compartment being adapted to contain a different condiment and a cover for the compartments having means associated therewith for controlling the discharge of the condiment from each compartment.
A further object of the invention is to provide an article of the above-mentioned character which is simple and durable in construction, re-, liable and efficient in use and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same.
Fig. 1 is a side elevation view of the holder,
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same,
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 1,
Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1, and,
Fig. 5 is a vertical section taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration, I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5, denotes the body of the holder which is circular in cross section having a central Vertical partition 6, d1- viding the body into separate compartments l and 8, each compartment being adapted to contain a separate condiment, such as salt and pepper. A cover 9 is provided for the body having a horizontal wall It] adapted to close the upper ends of the compartments 1 and 8. The wall i0 is spaced from the top wall ll of the cover and extending across the center of the space between the walls Ill and l l is a partition wall l2 which divides the space into separate chambers 53 and 14, which, respectively, aline with the compartments 7 and 8, when the cover is fitted on the body. The side walls of the cover extend below the wall Ill and fit over the upper edge of the body and at opposite sides are provided with inwardly projecting lugs l5, which engage in the bayonet shaped slots I6 formed in the outer walls of the body. The wall IEI in each of the chambers l3 and I 4 is provided with an opening ll,
normally closed by the hemispherical shaped valve member l8 attached to one end of the pivoted lever IS. The lever I9 is pivotally mounted, in-
termediate its ends, to the bracket 29 attached to the wall In and its opposite end extends through a slot 2| formed in the side wall of the cover, a finger piece 22 being formed integral with the extended end of the lever for manually 5 depressing the lever to raise the valve member !8. A spring 23 is disposed between the lever I9 and Wall Iii which exerts a tension on the lever to hold the valve member in a closed position. The top wall ll of the cover is provided with a 10 series of perforations 24 over each of the chambers i5 and i l, the perforations on one side being smaller than the perforations on the other side.
In use, the compartments 1 and 8 are filled with different condiments, such as salt and pep- 15 per and then the cover 9 is fitted inplace so that the wall It? covers the upper ends of the compartments. When the cover 9 is in place the chambers l3 and M are alined with the compartments I and 8, so that when the valve mem- 20 bers l8 are opened the condiments from the compartments are discharged into the chambers and are dispensed from the chambers through the perforations 24 in the top Wall of the cover. The valve members H! are opened by depressing the 25 levers I9, and by selectively operating the levers either kind of condiment may be dispensed from the holder. When the levers are released, the valve members are automatically closed by the action of the springs 23 on the levers. 30
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that certain changes in the shape, size and arrangement of the parts may be made without 35 departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A condiment holder comprising a body divided by a vertical partition into separate com- 40 partments, a cover for the body having spaced top and bottom walls, a partition disposed between the top and bottom walls of said cover forming separate chambers adapted to aline with the compartments of said body, the bottom wall 45 of each chamber having an opening therethrough, a ball valve member in each of the chambers normally seated in the opening in the bottom of the chambers, a lever rockably mounted in each of the chambers having one end connected to said valve member and its opposite end extending through the side of said cover, for actuating said lever to raise said ball valve from its seat and spring means normally holding said 55 ball valve seated, the top of each chamber being 10 bers and compartments, a ball valve member in each of said chambers normally seated i'n' the openings in the bottom thereof, and a lever rockably mounted in each of said chambers having one end connected tosaid valvemember and its opposite end extending through the'side of said cover, for rocking said levers to raise said valve member from its seat, the top of each chamber having perforations therethrough p p ROBERT M.
