Abstract

A golf club head has a body, a strike panel, and at least one counterweight structure. The body has a sole, a crown located above the sole, a side wall, and a hosel formed on the crown. The side wall is connected to the sole and the crown. The strike panel is mounted on the body, and is located between and connected to the sole and the crown. The strike panel, the side wall, the sole, and the crown enclose an inner space of the hollow body. The at least one counterweight structure is mounted on an outer surface of the side wall and has multiple meshed recesses disposed at spaced intervals. The at least one counterweight structure is mounted on the side wall of the body to adjust a position of a center of gravity of the golf club head.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention relates to a golf club head, especially to a wood golf club head.
  • 2. Description of Related Art
  • Golf is a sport in which a player strikes a golf ball with a golf club. The golf ball is struck to a designated position by centrifugal kinetic energy generated during swinging of the golf club. A conventional golf club head is an important part for striking the golf ball.
  • With reference to FIG. 5, the conventional golf club head has a body 90 and a strike panel 80. The body 90 has a crown, a sole 92, and a side 93. The sole 92 is located below the crown. The side 93 is connected between the crown and the sole 92 to form the hollow body 90. The strike panel 80 is mounted on a front end of the body 90. A hosel 94 is formed on the crown to be connected to a shaft.
  • The player can hold and swing the shaft for striking the golf ball B′ by the strike panel 80 of the conventional golf club head. A flight path of the golf ball is easily affected by a position of a center of gravity of the conventional golf club head. With reference to FIG. 5, a center of gravity of the body 90 is projected on the strike panel 80 to form a best striking spot. A best striking zone S′ is formed around the best striking spot.
  • If the position of the center of gravity of the conventional golf club head is deviated from the sweet area, the flight path of the golf ball is shortened. On the contrary, the position of the center of gravity of the conventional golf club head is located at the sweet area, and the flight path of the golf ball is prolonged.
  • If the position of the center of gravity of the conventional head golf club is close to the hosel 94, a moment of inertia of the golf ball is decreased, and the flight path of the golf ball is shortened, too. If the position of the center of gravity of the conventional head golf club is far from the hosel 94, a moment of inertia of the golf ball is increased. When a striking spot is located at the sweet area, the flight path of the golf ball is prolonged.
  • With reference to FIG. 5, the hosel 94 is located at the side of the crown, and the center of gravity of the body 90 moves toward the hosel 94. For allowing the golf ball to easily strike on the best striking zone S′ of the golf club head upon striking, and for controlling the striking force and the striking direction easily, counterweight of the sole 92 is increased to adjust the position of the center of gravity of the body 90. The position of the center of gravity of the body 90 is close to a center line L′ vertically passing through a center point C′ of the strike panel 80 and is far from the strike panel 20. The best striking zone S′ is adjusted to be located around the center point C′ of the strike panel 80.
  • To assist the player in aiming at the striking direction, an aiming point is mounted on the crown and is located in a middle of the strike panel for ease of aiming at the center point C′ of the strike panel 80 upon striking. However, for increasing the counterweight of the sole 92, a counterweight groove is formed on an inner side of the sole 92, and a counterweight block is mounted on the inner side of the sole 92. Production cost of the golf club head is increased. Furthermore, it requires certain skills to adjust a thickness of the sole 92 in a manufacturing process. Otherwise, when the sole 92 is too thick, the golf club head will be overweight, and when the sole 92 is too thin, the center of gravity of the golf club head will be too high. Therefore, how to effectively adjust the position of the center of gravity and simplify design of the counterweight of the gold club head are problems that need to be overcome.
  • To overcome the shortcomings, the present invention provides a golf club head to mitigate or obviate the aforementioned problems.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The objective of the invention is to provide a golf club head to solve the problems that the counterweight of the golf club head is not properly disposed and decreases the striking effect.
  • The golf club head has a body, a strike panel, and at least one counterweight structure. The body is hollow and has a sole, a crown, a side wall, and a hosel. The crown is located above the sole. The side is located between the sole and the crown, is connected to the sole and the crown, and has an outer surface. The hosel is formed on the crown. The strike panel is mounted on a front side of the body, is located between the sole and the crown, and is connected to the sole and the crown. The strike panel, the side wall, the sole, and the crown enclose an inner space of the hollow body. The at least one counterweight structure is mounted on the outer surface of the side wall. Each one of the at least one counterweight structure has multiple meshed recesses disposed at spaced intervals.
  • In a manufacturing process, the at least one counterweight structure is integrally formed on the side wall of the body by casting or forging. A thickness, a size, and a position of each one of the at least one counterweight structure can be adjusted for adjusting a position of a center of gravity of the body.
  • The golf club head uses the at least one counterweight structure mounted on the side wall of the body to adjust a position of a center of gravity of the golf club head, and has the following advantages:
  • 1. Adjusting the position of the center of gravity of the golf club head: the at least one counterweight structure is mounted on the outer surface of the side wall of the body. In the manufacturing process, the position of the center of gravity of the golf club head can be adjusted by mold design for enhancing the accuracy of the position of the center of gravity of the golf club head and a swing performance of a player.
  • 2. Accommodating customized needs: the at least one counterweight structure is mounted on the outer surface of the side wall of the body and is visible. Shapes of the meshed recesses can be varied for increasing a decorative effect of the golf club head. Appearance of the golf club head can be changed in the manufacturing process according to preference of the player for customization.
  • Other objectives, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • With reference to FIGS. 1 to 3, a first embodiment, a second embodiment, and a third embodiment of a golf club head in accordance with the present invention comprises a body 10, a strike panel 20, and at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c.
  • With reference to FIG. 1, the body 10 is hollow and has a sole 12, a crown 11, a side wall 13, and a hosel 14. The crown 11 is located above the sole 12. The side wall 13 is located between the sole 12 and the crown 11, is connected to the sole 12 and the crown 11, and has an outer surface. The side wall 13 is located at a left side, a right side, and a rear side of the body 10. In other words, the sole 12, the crown 11, and the side wall 13 do not form an enclosed space, and forms an opening instead. The hosel 14 is formed on the crown 11.
  • With reference to FIG. 1, the strike panel 20 is mounted on a front side of the body 10, is located between the crown 11 and the sole 12, and is connected to the crown 11 and the sole 12. Two sides of the strike panel 20 are connected to the side wall 13. The strike panel 20, the side wall 13, the sole 12, and the crown enclose an inner space of the hollow body 10. That is, the strike panel 20 covers the opening formed by the sole 12, the crown 11, and the side wall 13. In addition, the portions between the crown 11 and the sole 12 are the side wall 13 and the strike panel 20 only. With reference to FIG. 4, the strike panel 20 has a geometrical center C and a center line L. The geometrical center C is defined on the strike panel 20. The center line L is defined on the strike panel 20 and vertically extends from the geometrical center C backwardly.
  • With reference to FIG. 1, the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c is mounted on the outer surface of the side wall 13. Each one of the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c has multiple meshed recesses 31 disposed at spaced intervals. A rib portion 32 is disposed between each two adjacent meshed recesses 31. Furthermore, shapes of the meshed recesses 31 can be geometric shapes, such as polygon or circle. In addition, in a manufacturing process, the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c is integrally formed on the side wall 13 of the body 10 by casting or forging. A thickness, a size, and a position of each one of the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c can be adjusted for adjusting a position of a center of gravity CG of the body 10.
  • According to usage requirements, a position of the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c mounted on the side wall 13 of the body 10 can be adjusted. With reference to FIG. 1, in the first embodiment of the golf club head, an amount of the at least one counterweight structure 30 a in the golf club head is one, and the counterweight structure 30 a is mounted on the whole outer surface of the side wall 13 of the body 10. With reference to FIG. 2, in the second embodiment of the golf club head, an amount of the at least one counterweight structure 30 b in the golf club head is one, and the counterweight structure 30 b is mounted on a part of the outer surface of the side wall 13 of the body 10. Furthermore, the counterweight structure 30 b is located at the center line L. With reference to FIG. 3, in the third embodiment of the golf club head, an amount of the at least one counterweight structure 30 c in the golf club head is multiple, and the multiple counterweight structures 30 c are mounted on a part of the outer surface of the side wall 13 of the body 10 and are located at two opposite sides of the center line L.
  • With reference to FIG. 1, in the first embodiment of the golf club head, the counterweight structure 30 a is mounted on the whole outer surface of the side wall 13 of the body 10. A center of gravity CG of the golf club head is adjusted to move to the center line L of the strike panel 20 and far away from the strike panel 20. Moment of inertia of the golf club head is effectively increased in swing.
  • With reference to FIG. 2, in the second embodiment of the golf club head, the counterweight structure 30 b is mounted on a part of the outer surface of the side wall 13 of the body 10 and is located at the center line L. Compared with the center of gravity CG in the first embodiment of the golf club head, the center of gravity CG in the second embodiment of the golf club head moves backwardly and is far from the strike panel 20 for increasing a range of a best striking zone S for ease of aiming. In the second embodiment of the golf club head, a striking angle of the golf club head is increased, a golf ball is struck at a large angle, a flight level of the golf ball is high, and a flight distance of the golf ball is short. The second embodiment of the golf club head is suitable for beginners.
  • With reference to FIG. 3, in the third embodiment of the golf club head, the multiple counterweight structures 30 c are mounted on a part of the outer surface of the side wall 13 of the body 10 and are located at two opposite sides of the center line L. Compared with the center of gravity CG in the first embodiment of the golf club head, the center of gravity CG in the third embodiment of the golf club head moves forwardly. In the third embodiment of the golf club head, the range of the best striking zone S is decreased, the striking angle of the golf club head is decreased, the golf ball is struck at a small angle, the flight level of the golf ball is low, and the flight distance of the golf ball is long. The third embodiment of the golf club head is suitable for experienced golf players.
  • With reference to FIG. 4, in the first embodiment of the golf club head, when the counterweight structure 30 a is mounted on the side wall 13 of the body 10, the position of the center of gravity CG is adjusted, is close to the center line L, aligns with the best striking zone S, and is far from the strike panel 20 along the center line L for increasing the moment of inertia of the golf club head. When stability in swing is increased, the striking distance is increased.
  • The at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c is mounted on the outer surface of the side wall 13 of the body 10. For manufacturers, the manufacturers can directly adjust parameters of the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c in terms of thickness, size, and distribution position for effectively adjusting the position of the center of gravity of the golf club head, increasing a design flexibility of the golf club head, increasing the accuracy of the position of the center of gravity of the golf club head, and enhancing a swing performance of a player.
  • Moreover, the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c is mounted on the outer surface of the side wall 13 of the body 10 and the shapes of the meshed recesses 31 are polygons or circles for increasing a decorative effect of the golf club head. Appearance of the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c in the golf club head can be changed in the manufacturing process according to preference of the player for customized production.
  • Accordingly, the position of the center of gravity of the golf club head is adjusted by the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c mounted on the side wall 13 of the body 10 for increasing the moment of inertia of the golf club head and enhancing a striking ability of the golf club head. The shapes of the meshed recesses 31 of the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c can be changed freely in design. The appearance of the at least one counterweight structure 30 a, 30 b, 30 c can be customized according to preference of the player.

Claims (8)

What is claimed is:
1. A golf club head comprising:
a body being hollow and having
a sole;
a crown located above the sole;
a side wall located between the sole and the crown, connected to the sole and the crown, and having an outer surface; and
a hosel formed on the crown;
a strike panel mounted on a front side of the body, located between the sole and the crown, and connected to the sole and the crown, and the strike panel, the side wall, the sole, and the crown enclosing an inner space of the hollow body; and
at least one counterweight structure mounted on the outer surface of the side wall, and each one of the at least one counterweight structure having multiple meshed recesses disposed at spaced intervals.
2. The golf club head as claimed in claim 1, wherein an amount of the at least one counterweight structure in the golf club head is one, and the counterweight structure is mounted on the whole outer surface of the side wall of the body.
3. The golf club head as claimed in claim 1, wherein an amount of the at least one counterweight structure in the golf club head is one, and the counterweight structure is mounted on a part of the outer surface of the side wall of the body.
4. The golf club head as claimed in claim 3, wherein the strike panel has a geometrical center and a center line, the geometrical center is defined on the strike panel, the center line is defined on the strike panel and extends from the geometrical center backwardly, and the counterweight structure is located at the center line.
5. The golf club head as claimed in claim 1, wherein an amount of the at least one counterweight structure in the golf club head is multiple, and the multiple counterweight structures are mounted on a part of the outer surface of the side wall of the body.
6. The golf club head as claimed in claim 5, wherein the strike panel has a geometrical center and a center line, the geometrical center is defined on the strike panel, the center line is defined on the strike panel and extends from the geometrical center backwardly, and the multiple counterweight structures are located at two opposite sides of the center line.
7. The golf club head as claimed in claim 1, wherein the meshed recesses are polygonal in shape.
8. The golf club head as claimed in claim 1, wherein the meshed recesses are circular in shape.
