Abstract
Description
- This application claims priority from Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 62/816,165 filed on Mar. 10, 2019.
- While at home, at parties, picnics, or other social events, individuals enjoy playing games. A favorite game of skill for many is the game of darts. Dart games can provide hours of entertainment and conversation among players. However, darts can be extremely dangerous due to the sharp edges and points of the projectiles. Darts can cause serious injuries to players and observers alike if not properly handled. Additionally, parents are often hesitant to let children play dart games.
- Other similar non-projectile games involve tossing a ball, coin, or other object into a basket, cup, or other container. Beer Pong, also known as Beiruit, is a drinking game in which players toss ping pong balls across a table attempting to bounce the ball into a cup of beer or alcohol at the other end. The game typically consists of opposing teams with six to ten cups set up in a triangular formation, similar to a pool rack, on each side. If a player bounces a ball into a cup, the contents of the cup are consumed by the opposing team and the cup is removed from the table. The first team to eliminate all of the cups of the opposing team is the winner.
- While this may be a fun game for some, it is certainly not child friendly. Additionally, there are many people that do not want to consume alcohol when playing games. While Beer Pong may be played with non-alcoholic beverages, there is still a high likelihood that liquids will be splashed out of the cups or otherwise spilled during the course of the game.
- Accordingly, there is a great need for a uniquely designed game that mimics dart games that can be played by multiple players. The present invention provides a game that can provide hours of fun and conversation, that is fun, easy to play, and highly entertaining. The game is portable, allowing users to take it to parties, picnics, or other social gatherings. Advantageously, the present invention is much safer to play than traditional dart games.

Eachcontainer 118 may be a cup, such as a plastic Solo® cup, a plastic drinking cup, or the like. - Prior to accepting one of the plurality of
containers 118, each retainingring 114 can lie substantially flat against thetarget side surface 104 of thecircular game board 102. When thecontainer 118 is placed within the retainingring 114, the retainingring 114 hinges outward away from thetarget side surface 104 substantially perpendicularly to retain thecontainer 118 within thecontainer retaining component 110. Thefriction element 116 helps to hold thecontainer 118 in position within the retainingring 114. - The
ball toss game 100 further comprises a centercontainer retaining component 124 and acenter container 132. The centercontainer retaining component 124 comprises a center target surface attachment element (not shown, but similar in configuration and construction to 112), and acenter retaining ring 128. The center target surface attachment element is typically a mechanical fastener, such as a screw, hook, mechanical attachment point, or the like, used to movably attach thecorresponding retaining ring 114 to thecircular game board 102. - The center
container retaining component 124 is attached to thetarget surface side 104 of thecircular game board 102 at the center intersection of each of the plurality of pie shapedsections 106 similar to a “bullseye” location on a dart board. Thecenter retaining ring 128 is typically manufactured from wire, tubing, string, or other pliable material, and had a diameter large enough to accept and retain thecenter container 132. The centercontainer retaining component 124 may further comprise afriction element 130 typically manufactured from metal, plastic, or other material that can frictionally engage thecenter container 132. - The
center container 132 comprises anopening 134 and aball retaining portion 136. Additionally, theopening 134 of thecenter container 132 is large enough to accept aping pong ball 10 but is smaller than theopening 120 of each of the plurality ofcontainers 118. Thecenter container 132 is retainable by centercontainer retaining component 124. Thecenter container 132 is typically a smaller cup, such as a plastic Solo® cup, a plastic drinking cup, or the like. Thecenter container 132 is smaller than each of the plurality ofcontainers 118. For example, if the plurality ofcontainers 118 are 16 oz cups, the center container may be a 4 oz cup. - Prior to accepting the
center container 132, thecenter retaining ring 128 can lie substantially flat against thetarget side surface 104 of thecircular game board 102. When thecenter container 132 is placed within thecenter retaining ring 128, thecenter retaining ring 128 hinges outward away from thetarget side surface 104 substantially perpendicularly to retain thecenter container 132 within the centercontainer retaining component 124. Thefriction element 130 helps to hold thecenter container 132 in position within thecenter retaining ring 128. - As illustrated in
FIG. 4 , theball toss game 100 further comprises asupport component 138. Thesupport component 138 is movably attached to theback side 108 of thecircular game board 102. Thesupport component 138 comprises a backside attachment segment 140 and a pair oflegs 142. The pair oflegs 142 are movably attached to the backside attachment segment 140 by afastener 146. The pair oflegs 142 are connected by abrace 144 for stability. When thesupport component 138 is deployed to support thecircular game board 102, the pair oflegs 142 hinge outward in an easel like configuration to support theball toss game 100 when placed on a horizontal surface. - As illustrated in
FIG. 5 , theball toss game 100 may further comprise awall mount component 148. Thewall mount component 148 is attached to theback side 108 of thecircular game board 102. Thewall mount component 148 comprises a backside attachment portion 150 and ahanger 152. The backside attachment portion 150 is typically a mechanical fastener, such as a screw, hook, mechanical attachment point, or the like. Thehanger 152 is movably attached to the backside attachment portion 150. Thehanger 152 is typically a wire, string, or the like that is attachable to the backside attachment portion 150. Thewall mount component 148 further comprises awall mount bracket 154 for attaching to a vertical surface. Thewall mount bracket 154 is typically a bracket, hook, or similar hardware that is attachable to the vertical surface. Thehanger 152 is attachable to thewall mount bracket 154 to hang thecircular game board 102 on a wall. -
FIG. 6 illustrated a flow chart of amethod 200 of playing theball toss game 100 described supra. Themethod 200 comprises providing aball toss game 100 for a player and an opponent at 210. The player selects either odd or even numbers for hisnumerical indicators 107. At 220, the player attempts to toss aping pong ball 10 into one of the opponent's plurality ofcontainers 118 or thecenter container 132 of theball toss game 100. If the toss is successfully placed into one of the opponent's plurality ofcontainers 118, the player removes thecontainer 118 with the retainedping pong ball 10 from the correspondingcontainer retaining component 110 at 230. If the toss is successfully placed into thecenter container 132, the player chooses one of the opponent'scontainers 118 to remove. At 240, if the toss inadvertently lands in one of the player'scontainers 118, the player must replace one of the opponent'scontainers 118 back into one of the opponent'scontainer retaining components 110 if any are available. - Similarly, the opponent repeats the process by attempting to toss a
ping pong ball 10 into one of the player's plurality ofcontainers 118, or thecenter container 132. If the toss is successfully placed into one of the player's plurality ofcontainers 118, the opponent removes thecontainer 118 with the retainedping pong ball 10 from the correspondingcontainer retaining component 110. If the toss is successfully placed into thecenter container 132, the opponent chooses one of the player'scontainers 118 to remove. If the toss inadvertently lands in one of the opponent'scontainers 118, the opponent must replace one of the player'scontainers 118 back into one of the player'scontainer retaining components 110 if any are available. - Once all of the opponent's
containers 118 have been removed, the player attempts to toss theping pong ball 10 into thecenter container 132 at 250. Similarly, once all of the player'scontainers 118 have been removed, the opponent attempts to toss theping pong ball 10 into thecenter container 132. The game ends at 260 when either the player or the opponent successfully tosses theping pong ball 10 into thecenter container 132 when all of the player's or opponent'scontainers 118 respectively have been removed. - What has been described above includes examples of the claimed subject matter. It is, of course, not possible to describe every conceivable combination of components or methodologies for purposes of describing the claimed subject matter, but one of ordinary skill in the art may recognize that many further combinations and permutations of the claimed subject matter are possible. Accordingly, the claimed subject matter is intended to embrace all such alterations, modifications and variations that fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims. Furthermore, to the extent that the term “includes” is used in either the detailed description or the claims, such term is intended to be inclusive in a manner similar to the term “comprising” as “comprising” is interpreted when employed as a transitional word in a claim.
