3 Claims.
This invention relates to a poultry feeding and watering device.
It .aims to provide an exceedingly simple, strong and durable construction wherein the elements may be readily assembled and disassembled with the several troughs disposed one over the other and with novel guard means associated therewith.
The more specific objects and advantages will become apparent from a consideration of the description following taken in connection with accompanying drawings illustrating an operative embodiment.

Figure 5 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 2, and
Figure 6 is a detail section taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Referring specifically to the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, suitable knock-down supporting framework is provided as at Hi. This framework comprises four legs ll, longitudinal perches I2 surmounting them, two transverse or cross members I3 abutting the outer sides of the legs and under surfaces of the perches, and two end boards Hi disposed against the outer surfaces of the cross members I3 and rising a considerable distance about the perches l2. The parts described are detachably connected together by bolts or the equivalent as at It. In addition, diagonal braces l6 are bolted to the perches, legs and cross members as at I! and a transverse brace 58 may be bolted as at l9 against the under side of the perches l2.
Removably resting on the cross members I3, is a trough 20 which is held against longitudinal displacement by the end boards l4. Accidental lateral displacement of the trough 26 is prevented by means of buttons or latches 2! pivoted at 22 to the end boards [5, such buttons being capable of being readily swung into and out of operative position. The trough 25 has a longitudinal inverted V-shape partition 23 disposed centrally therein and for example, a plurality of transverse partitions 26, thus providing spaces as at 25 for mash, at 26, for oyster shells, and at 21 for grit.
Disposed centrally over the trough 29 and relatively close thereto is a trough 28 for water. 5 Trough 28 is preferably as shown provided with outwardly inclined walls 28 this structure providing restricted openings for fovvls feeding from troughs 25, 26 and 21 to prevent waste of material. top to provide recesses 29 corresponding to the cross sectional shape of and in which the trough 28 removably rests, being prevented from longitudinal displacement by means of latches or buttons 30 pivoted at 3! to the end boards. Such l5 latches or buttons 36 are similar in construction to those at 2! so that they may be readily moved to or out of operative position.
A cross brace 32 prevents undue bulging of the side walls of the trough 28 and the end walls 20 of such trough extend upwardly above the side walls so that nails 33 may be passed therethrough and secure a longitudinal bar 34 centrally over the trough.
A suitable baffle and guard means is mounted 25 by the bar i t, to prevent undue crowding of the poultry. To this end, any suitable number of vertically disposed bafiies or guard members it are provided. Each guard member consists of a strand of resilient wire whose main portion 30 5B is arcuate and from the base of which the arms All extend inwardly past each other terminating in depending lugs 55. The guards 55 are detachable, resting on the upper side edges of trough 28 and having their lugs iii disposed in 35 sockets or recesses it in such bar it. In order to apply the lugs dB to the bar, it is necessary to move the arms ll inwardly toward each other or outwardly away from each other so that the guards will be tensioned when the lugs of such 40 guards are engaged with the bar, the lugs 48 of each guard prior to assembly on the bar being a different distance apart than the pair of openings 49 which receive the pair of lugs of that guard. 45
The troughs 20 and 28 are made of any suitable material preferably sheet metal as shown with the sections suitably seamed and soldered together, where necessary. In addition the upper edges of such troughs are preferably doubled 50 as at 50 in order to strengthen the troughs.
It will also be noted that the side edges of the trough 28 terminate over the trough 2b so that any water spilled in the process of drinking will fall into the mash in the trough 20. 55

I claim as my invention:
1. A trough having a bar provided with sockets, guard members disposed along the bar and over the trough, said guard members having depending lugs disposed in said sockets, each guard member being a strand of resilient material provided with inwardly extending arms from which said lugs depend, the lugs on each member prior to assembly on the bar being spaced at a distance from one another dissimilar to the distance between the sockets receiving the lugs to provide means whereby the member will be under tension when supported on the bar.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a leg supported frame having end crossbars, a trough supported on said cross-bars, end walls secured to the outer faces of said cross-bars and engaging the trough to prevent end movement in the direction thereof, said end walls extending above said trough and having recesses therein arranged in a vertical plan that includes the longitudinal median line of the trough, a
second trough supported by said end walls and located in said recesses, said second trough having its opposite side walls inclined upwardly and outwardly and providing restricted openings admitting to the first mentioned trough to prevent waste of material therein when feeding poultry, and latch members pivotally mounted on the end walls to prevent endwise movement of the last mentioned trough.
3. A guard for poultry feeding and watering devices, comprising a plurality of spaced guard members each comprising a single length 01' resilient material arcuate in shape intermediate of its ends, inwardly directed integral arms from the base of said arcuate portion, the extremities of said arms being downturned to provide lugs, and a single bar provided with spaced pairs of sockets receiving said lugs, the lugs on each member prior to assembly on the bar being spaced at a distance from one another dissimilar to the distance between the sockets receiving the lugs to provide means whereby the member will be under tension when supported on the bar.
