Be it known that I, J 01m Home, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dell Rapids, in the county of Minnehaha and Ct'ate of South Dakota, have invented cerrain new and useful Ii'nprovenients in Feed Troughs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and i setul improvements in feed troughs and the prih iar'y object thereof is to provide a trough for use particularly in feeding hogs, and which has a feeding trough common to a plurality of: cars-containing hoppers freely open to the surrounding air, to prevent souring, whereby the hoppers may be used for soaking the corn throughout a predetermined period, and then have the contents at one dumped into the trough proper for feeding to the hogs, while the corn in the other is soaking.
further object of the invention. is to provide a feeding trough structure of simple, compact and economical construction, which can be easily and quickly operated to dump the hoppers.

In proceeding in accordance with the present invention, a frame is employed which includes horizontal end base members 1 0011-, nected by horizontal tie rods 2. Two spaced pairs of vertical posts or standards 3-l and 56, are suitably secured at their lower ends to each of the base members 1, the posts of the pairs being spaced as more clearly shown in Figures 3 and 4:.
The inner or adjacent posts 1 and are further connected by tie rods 7 located above the plane in which the rods 2 are disposed. A sheet metal trough 8 is secured along its side edge portions to the rods 7 whereby the latter function in a dual capacity namely to tie the respective posts a and 5 at the opposed ends of the frame together and to support the trough 8. One side 9 of the trpugh is inclined ClQWnWardIy forming a bib. Division strips 10 divide the trough into individual feeding compartments, and also strengthen and brace the trough. V r
The corn or fodder hoppers 11 and 12 are secured to substantially lei-shaped and pret erably integral frames formed of rods having sides 13 and 1 1 respectively connected at one end by the cross portions 15 and 16. The inner sides 13 and 14 of the frames are journaled in the upper ends of the respective posts 4 and 5, while the outer sides of the frames are received in upwardly opening slots 17 and 18 formed in the upper ends of the posts 3 and 6 respectively. The opposite ends of the outer sides 13 and 141- are extended to form hand cranks 19 and respectively, by means of which the hoppers may be moved to dinnping position as shown in Figure- 1 of the drawings. Cross braces 21 and 22 are secured to the hopper sides to strengthen same.
7 As shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, the posts 3% and 56 are spaced in such relation, whereby the post 4: will engage a side 14 of the hopper 12 upon dumping movement of the latter so as to arrestand hold same in dumping position over the feed trough 8. Likewise, the post 5 :tunctions in a similar manner in movement oi the hopper 11 to dumping position.
In operation, the hoppers are filled with corn and permitted to soak for a period usually of twenty-four hours. Then one of the hoppers is dumped to empty its contents into trough 8, whereupon the same may be refilled. The other hopper is, at the expiration of its twenty-four hours, likewise dumped and then refilled. Briefly, the hop pers alternately dumped at predeter-' mined intervals of: time and refilled upon dumping, so that the corn 1s being soaked in one while the other is b81110 emptied, thus affording a continuous supply of soaked corn and wherein the latter is being soaked in tree and open communication with the atmosphere to prevent souring.
What is. claimed is: v
1. In a feeding device, a frame including ends, each having two spaced pairs of vertical. posts, a central feed trough disposed inthe space between the inner posts of the pairs of posts, the upper end of the outer post of each pair of posts having outwardly opening slots, substantially U-shaped rod frames having their inner sides journaled in the upper ends of the inner posts of the pairs of posts and having their outer sides received in the said respective slots, the free ends of the outer sides of the rods being formed with hand cranks, and hoppers carried by the U-frames, the posts being related so that upon dumping movement of the hoppers the outer sides of the frames there of will engage the inner posts of the re spective opposing pair of posts to thereby restrict the extent of downward movement of the hoppers. In a feeding device, a frame including ends, each having two spaced pairs of vertical posts, a central feed trough disposed in the space between the inner posts of the pairs of posts, a pair of hoppers, and means to pivotally connect the hoppers to the inner posts of the pairs or? posts and to normally support same from' the outer posts, the posts being related so that upon dumping movement of the hoppers the latter will engage the inner posts of the opposed pairs to have their downward movement restricted thereby.
3. In a feeding device, a central feed trough, a pair of superposed hoppers arranged on opposite sides of the central trough, supporting means for each ofthe hoppers, and means to movably connect the hoppers to the respective supporting means to allow the hoppers to be independently moved to dump their contents into the central trough, said supporting means being arranged whereby same will engage and restrict dumping movement of the hopper of the respective opposite supporting means.
In a feeding device, a frame, a central feed trough carried by the frame, a pair of superposed hoppers arranged on opposite sides of the central trough, and substantially U-shaped frames for the, hoppers having their inner sides journaled in the frame and their outer sides removably supported in the frame whereby to allow the hoppers to be swung inwardly to dump their contents into the central trough.
5. In a feeding device, a feed trough, a pair of hoppers thereabove, and means to pivotally mount the hoppers along the inner sides thereof to provide relatively fixed pouring edges whereby the hopper contents may be dumped into the feed trough by movement of the entire hopper over and about the said pouring edge thereof.
6. In a feeding device, a feed" trough, a pair of hoppers disposed in substantially the same plane above and on opposite sides ofthe trough, and means to pivotally mount each hopper along the inner side thereof and at points substantially vertically alined with the respective opposite sides of the trough to provide relatively fixed pouring edges for the hopper whereby the hopper contents may be, dumped by movement of the entire hopper over and about the said. pouring edge thereof.
