Abstract

A hangable display package that contains a portion of a hand tool in a manner that reveals the hand tool while still contained in the package hanging on a display hook. An outer skin having a front panel, a back panel, and a side panel covers a filler material having a thickness equivalent to the thickness of the tool contained in the display. The front panel and filler are cut to create a cavity that conforms to the size and shape of a part of the hand tool. The front panel has a clear plastic window over the cavity, allowing display of the tool. The tool is held in the display package by the forces exerted on the tool by the filler material and the front and back panels when inserted into the cavity of the display package.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention relates generally to improvements in hand tool display hangers and more particularly pertains to new and improved hanging display packages for garden hand tools.
  • 2. Description of Related Art
  • Hand tools which are displayed for sale are generally fixed on display hangers. The structure of such display hangers vary in complexity and aesthetics. Published U.S. Application No. US 2015/0209556 for a hand tool display hanger requires a plurality of different parts which must fit together precisely in order to display a hand tool. Other examples of hand tool display hangers are shown in U.S. Pat. No. 7,648,029. The rotatable anti-theft tool rack shown requires that multiple parts, such as a tool rack body and an inserting body for installation through the tool, is used. The inserting body is attached to the rack body. Precision parts are again required. A hanging-type demonstration packing box is shown in Chinese Patent 103,832,658 granted Jun. 4, 2014. The hanging-type display box is a rectangular box that contains a bottom, sides, a front and a rear, all of which connect together to enclose an item to be displayed through an opening in the front part of the box.
  • As can be seen in these hand tool displays, require manufacture and assembly of the displays that can be time-consuming and costly. These display devices for hand tools tend to be complicated and expensive to put together. They seem to be lacking in aesthetics, especially when it comes to a full display of the tool being offered for sale.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • An efficient cost-effective hangable display package for garden hand tools, like clippers, has an outer skin that has a front panel, a back panel, and a side panel. The side panel defines the thickness of the display package. A filler material, like corrugated cardboard, fills the space between the front panel and back panel. A portion of the front panel and filler material is cut out to create a cavity that matches the shape of part of a hand tool to be held by the display package. A plastic window covers the cut out portion on the front panel. When inserted into the cavity of the package, the front panel window and back panel exert a grasping force on the front and back of the hand tool. The filler material exerts a grasping force on the sides of the hand tool. A cut out slot in the package allows for suspension of the display package on a display rack.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • The exact nature of the present invention, as well as its objects and advantages, will become readily apparent upon consideration of the following specification, when considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the figures thereof and wherein:
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the hanging display of the present invention with a hand tool inserted.
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the hanging tool display package without a hand tool.
  • FIG. 3 is a perspective of a hanging display package with the top panel of the outer skin removed from the package.
  • FIG. 4 is perspective of the hanging display package with the top panel of the outer skin displaced and a tool inserted into the cavity of the package.
  • FIG. 5 is a perspective of a hanging display package with the top panel of the skin displaced from the rest of the package without a tool inserted in the cavity of the package.
  • FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the hanging display package with the front panel of the outer skin pulled away from the rest of the package.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • A preferred embodiment of the hanging display package 11 of the present invention is illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 6.
  • FIG. 1 shows the package 11 having an outer skin containing a front panel 13, a side panel 15 and a back panel 31 (FIG. 2). This outer skin may be made out of paper or plastic material which is easily folded into the open envelope a shape illustrated in the Figures. Descriptive material (not shown) is generally printed on the front 13 and back 31 panels of the outer skin.
  • Since the display package 11 only has one side panel 15, the other side of the package is open as shown in FIGS. 5 and 6.
  • The filler material 17 located between the front panel and back panel is contained by the front panel 13, back panel 31 and side panel 15. This material fills the entire space between the front panel 13 and the back panel 31. This filler material may be corrugated cardboard layers, as illustrated in the Figures, or any other form of filler material such as Styrofoam, or similar plastic, that is sturdy enough to hold a tool but may be easily cut to create a desired cavity shape.
  • As shown in FIG. 1, a tool 23 illustrated as a pair of cutting clippers, is inserted through the open bottom of the cavity 19 on hanging display package 11. The cavity 19 is cut specifically to match the shape and size of the top portion of the clippers 23.
  • A plastic window 21 mounted to the top panel 13 covers a major portion of the top part of the cavity 19 cut into the top panel 13.
  • To hang the display package 11 on a rack, or by a hook, for example, an aperture 25 is cut through all layers of the package at the top end between the front and back panels and through the filler material 17.
  • As seen in FIG. 2, the back panel 31 has apertures 29 located therein for the purpose of receiving nuts or bolts that are part of the hand tool. These apertures capture the nut or bolt head and help to prevent removal of the hand tool from the cavity 19 in the display package.
  • The filler material 17 shown in FIG. 2, is shown as a plurality of layers of corrugated cardboard 27 which when stacked match the approximate thickness of the tool to be inserted into the cavity 19. Because the cavity 19 is a customized shape that matches the shape of the tool to be displayed, the insert material 27, at the sides of the cavity 19, provide a gripping force to the tool.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates the back side of front panel 13 of the skin separated from the filler material 17. A clear plastic sheet 21 is attached to the back side of front panel 13 over a part of the cut out portion of cavity 19 on the front panel 13. When the front panel 13 is folded over to a cover the face 41 of filler material 17, the cut out portion 20 in the filler material matches the cut portion in the front panel 13. A cavity 19 is created for insertion of the hand tool. The apertures 29 in the back panel 31 match in size and placement the fastening nut or bolt heads on the tool being inserted.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates the hand tool 23 inserted into the cut out portion 20 in the filler material 17 before the front panel 13 is folded over and fastened to the filling material stack 41. FIG. 4 illustrates an aperture 25 cut through the front panel 13. An aperture 35 cut into the filling material stack 41 of filler material 17 matches the aperture 25 in the front panel.
  • FIG. 5 shows the hanging display package of FIG. 4 without the tool 23 inserted into the cavity 20 of the filler material stack 41. Apertures 29 are placed in this back plate 31 and sized to catch the nut or bolt heads of the tool being inserted into the package.
  • FIG. 6 illustrates a hanging display package according to the present invention showing a different cut- out cavity 19 and 20 formed into the package to accommodate a different shaped hand tool. Apertures 29 are located specifically to accommodate the nut and bolt heads of the specific hand tool.
