Description

Method of producing a packaging assembly, packaging assembly and blank to be formed into a secondary package
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a method for producing a packaging assembly. The invention also relates to a packaging assembly and a blank shaped into a secondary package.
Background
In the food packaging industry, food products are packaged into different types of packages, distributed to storage locations for further distribution to retail stores where the food products are sold to end consumers. Packaging for beverages (e.g., juices, still beverages, and dairy products or derivatives thereof) can be divided into portion packaging and home packaging. These packages differ mainly in their respective volume size and thus their respective weight. In particular, portion packages may be available in varying volumes from about 80ml to several 100 ml. Portion packs are usually consumed at one time and, due to their small size, are suitable for use not only by adults but also by children or adolescents.
Typically, when the product is sold to a consumer, the items associated with the contents of the primary package will be packaged together. The article may be placed in a refill package. For juice packaging, the item may be a straw attached to a plastic bag of the primary package. Such supplementary packaging with the article is typically attached to the outside of the primary packaging using conventional methods. When the end consumer intends to use the attached article, the supplemental package is peeled away from the primary package, and the end consumer will then open the supplemental package to access the article.
The problem with the refill package is to mount and/or attach it to the primary package. There is therefore a need to improve the state of the art and to provide an efficient solution for mounting a supplementary package to a primary package.
Disclosure of Invention
It is an object of the present invention to improve the prior art to solve the above problems and to provide an improved packaging assembly. These and other objects are achieved by a method for producing a packaging assembly. The method comprises the step of attaching a supplemental package (supplemental package) to a secondary package (primary package) such that when the secondary package is attached to the primary package, the supplemental package is disposed in a space formed between the secondary package and the primary package. The above method has several advantages. Here, the primary package may be manufactured and filled at one location and the secondary package manufactured at another location where the secondary package may be provided with a supplementary package containing the articles. The secondary package may later be attached to the one or more primary packages at any suitable place to hold and/or create rigidity for the one or more primary packages. Further, when a secondary package is used to hold a plurality of primary packages, the secondary package may provide a supplemental package for each primary package, all in the same process. Thus, the efficiency of the manufacturing process of the entire packaging assembly (including the primary packages) will be further improved.
The step of attaching the supplemental package to the secondary package may comprise attaching a first portion of the supplemental package to a removable lid of the secondary package. By this arrangement, the supplementary package will follow the lid when the lid is removed from the package assembly. The risk of the supplementary package being stuck in the space and thus the risk of the article being stuck in the space is eliminated.
The method may further comprise the step of attaching a second portion of the supplemental packaging to a portion of the secondary packaging different from the removable lid or to a portion of the primary packaging. By this arrangement, the refill package will automatically open when the consumer removes the lid from the package assembly. The method may further comprise the step of attaching the secondary package to the primary package.
According to a second aspect, these and other objects are achieved, in whole or at least in part, by a packaging assembly comprising a supplementary package adapted to contain an article and a secondary package adapted to be attached to a primary package. The supplemental package is attached to the secondary package such that when the secondary package is attached to the primary package, the supplemental package is disposed in a space formed between the secondary package and the primary package. The primary package may be adapted to contain a product and the supplemental package may be adapted to contain an item associated with the product. The same advantages as described above apply to the second aspect of the present invention.
The packaging assembly may also include a primary package to which the secondary package is attached. In a preferred embodiment, the secondary package has a removable portion that is separated from the remainder of the secondary package by a second line of weakness. Here, the supplementary packaging may be attached to the removable portion. By this arrangement, the supplementary package will follow the lid when the lid is removed from the package assembly. The risk of the supplementary packaging becoming stuck in the space is thereby eliminated, and the risk of the item becoming stuck in the space is thereby eliminated.
According to a third aspect, these and other objects are achieved, in whole or at least in part, by a blank to be formed into a secondary package. The blank has a main panel separated in a longitudinal direction by a first line of weakness to form a plurality of main portions, each main portion being adapted to receive a supplementary package containing an article.
The weakening line may comprise a perforated portion and/or a cut-through portion. The perforated portion may be perforated with different fineness (fineness). These portions are provided so that the main portions are separated from each other.
In another preferred embodiment, the blank has a main panel and/or a top panel and/or a bottom panel. The top panel and/or the bottom panel are separated from the main panel in the transverse direction by a crease line, wherein the main portion is adapted to receive a supplementary package containing an article. The same advantages as described above apply to the third aspect of the present invention.
In general, all terms used in the claims are to be interpreted according to their ordinary meaning in the technical field, unless explicitly defined otherwise herein. All references to "a/an/the [ element, device, component, means, step, etc ]" are to be interpreted openly as referring to at least one instance of said element, device, component, means, step, etc., unless explicitly stated otherwise.
The term "longitudinal direction" refers to the vertical direction of the packaging assembly when viewed from the front.
The term "transverse direction" refers to the horizontal direction of the packaging assembly when viewed from the front.

Detailed Description
Figure 1 shows a packaging assembly 1 according to a first embodiment of the present invention. The secondary package 3 has three supplementary packages 41 attached thereto via attachment points 43. The supplementary packages 41 each contain an item 4 associated with the food product, which item 4 is a straw in fig. 1. The secondary package 3 also has two first weakening lines 61, along which first weakening lines 61 the secondary package 3 can be separated. Secondary package 3 is intended to be attached to a primary package containing a food product such that supplemental package 41 is located between the primary package and secondary package 3. The secondary package 3 in fig. 1 is intended to be attached to three primary packages such that they are bundled together until the user separates the packages at the first line of weakness 61 for consumption.
Fig. 2 shows a packaging assembly 1 according to a second embodiment of the present invention. The secondary package 3 has three supplementary packages 41 attached thereto by attachment points 43. The supplementary packages 41 each contain an item 4 associated with the food product, which item 4 is a straw in fig. 2. 2 is intended to be attached to three primary packages such that they are bundled together until the user separates the packages at the line of weakness 61 for consumption. When secondary package 3 is attached to secondary package 3, secondary package 3 is folded along crease line 62 so that top panel 31 of secondary package 3 is placed on top of the primary package and bottom panel 32 is placed under the primary package. Refill package 41 is placed in the space between secondary package 3 and the primary package.
The secondary package 3 in fig. 2 further comprises a removable portion 50 defined by a second line of weakness 64 to form a removable lid 50 when attached to the primary package. The refill pack 41 is further attached to the removable portion 50 in an attachment point 63 such that when the user removes the removable portion 50 in order to access the drinking straw 4 in the refill pack 41, the refill pack 41 will be pulled along with the removable portion 50.
The refill pack 41 also includes a recess 42 where the refill pack will break when the end user removes the removable portion 50. When supplementary package 41 is broken at notch 42, article 4 or the straw is exposed and easily pulled out of supplementary package 41, without supplementary package 41 being removed from primary package 2.
In fig. 3, a packaging assembly 1 according to another aspect of the present invention is shown. A plurality of primary packages 2 is arranged in a 3 x 1 pattern, meaning a single column of three primary packages. The primary packages 2 come from a brick-shaped structure and are placed close to each other but otherwise separated from each other. The package assembly 1 further comprises a secondary package 3 attached to the primary package 2 in a defined 3 x 1 pattern.
The secondary package 3 includes a bottom panel 32, the package resting on the bottom panel 32 and slightly attached to the bottom panel 32 (not shown). For example, a small portion of adhesive may be used to secure the primary package to the bottom panel 32. The secondary package 3 further comprises a main panel 3, the main panel 3 being separated in the longitudinal direction L by two first lines of weakness 61 to form main portions 3a to 3c, respectively. The first line of weakness 61 is a line of perforation and extends in the bottom panel (not shown) to the cut-out 37. The cuts and perforation lines enable the consumer to easily separate the single packages 2 from the assembly 1.
A space 10 is formed between primary packages 2 and secondary packages 3. This space is used to accommodate the articles 4 associated with the food contents of the primary package. The article is placed in a supplementary package 41 attached to the primary or secondary package at an attachment point 43. The attachment points 43 may be accomplished, for example, with glue. The refill package is further attached to the removable lid 50 at another attachment point 63. A recess 42 is present in the supplementary package where the supplementary package is intended to be broken when the removable portion 50 is removed from the secondary package 3, so that the article 4 is exposed to the end consumer. In a preferred embodiment, the articles 4 consist of straws to be used by the consumer when drinking the contents of the primary package 2.
The secondary package 3 also comprises a top panel, which is also separated by a perforation line into different top portions 31 for simple separation. The top panel, more specifically the top portion 31, is attached to the top side of the primary packages, in this example to the top notch seal of the primary packages.
To open the space, the lid 50 includes a pull tab or lid 35a, which in this embodiment is disposed on top. The consumer may for example pull the pull tab 35a towards the rim and the main parts 3a, 3b and 3c, thereby tearing the lid and the opening such that the space with the straw is accessible.
In fig. 4, a blank according to another aspect of the invention is shown. The blank has a main panel 65, a top panel 31 and a bottom panel 32. The top panel 31 and the bottom panel 32 are separated from the main panel 65 in the transverse direction by a crease line 62. Furthermore, the main panel 65 is divided in the longitudinal direction by the first weakening line 61 to form a plurality of main portions 3a, 3b, 3 c.
In fig. 5, a blank is shown according to another embodiment of the invention. The blank has a main panel 65, a top panel 31 and a bottom panel 32. The top panel 31 and the bottom panel 32 are separated from the main panel 65 in the transverse direction by a crease line 62. The main panel 65 is divided in the longitudinal direction by the first weakening line 61 to form a plurality of main portions 3a, 3b, 3 c. Further, a removable lid 50 is provided in the blank. The lid 50 extends in both the top portion 31 and the main portions 3a, 3b, 3c and may be separated from these portions 31, 3a, 3b, 3c by a second line of weakness 64.
In fig. 6, a blank is shown according to another embodiment of the invention. The blank has a main panel 65 and a top panel 31. The top panel 31 is separated from the main panel 65 in the transverse direction by a crease line 62. The main panel 65 is divided in the longitudinal direction by the first weakening line 61 to form a plurality of main portions 3a, 3b, 3 c. Furthermore, a removable lid 50 is provided in the blank 3. The lid 50 extends in both the top portion 31 and the main portions 3a, 3b, 3c and may be separated from these portions 31, 3a, 3b, 3c by a second line of weakness 64.
Those skilled in the art realize that many modifications of the embodiments described herein are possible without departing from the scope of the present invention, which is defined in the appended claims.
