Abstract

A hair extension device for providing hair extensions for integration into a user's hair, having a plurality of wefts connected to each other, configured to generally accommodate a portion of the user's head, with openings to allow some of the user's hair to be pulled through the extension device, having hair extensions attached to selected portions of the wefts, and having a plurality of clips connected to the wefts and adapted to allow the secure attachment of the hair extension device to the user's hair.

Description

    CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/455,116, filed Feb. 6, 2017.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is directed to a hair extension device for providing a user with the appearance of having longer, fuller hair.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Hair extensions are often used for cosmetic purposes by extending the length of hair and/or by increasing the volume of hair. They are attached to the user's head and typically interspersed with the user's naturally growing hair.
  • When hair extensions are used, it is important to secure and allow removal of the extensions to and from the user's head with a minimum of discomfort. Prior art methods of attaching hair extensions that involve the use of adhesives or a technique known as weaving are undesirable for a number of reasons, including the relative difficulty of applying and removing the extensions. Other prior art extensions may have individual rows of hair (or “wefts”) that are attached to the user's head using two to three clips per weft. Typically, the user will require, on average, four of these wefts, thus requiring the user to have anywhere between 8-12 clips throughout the head. This is both uncomfortable to wear and tedious to attach.
  • In another prior art approach, such as “Halo” extensions, four to five wefts, with associated extensions, are sewn close together onto one piece of material, which attaches to the user's head via a band around the front/top of the head. This piece is comfortable and easy to wear, but unattractive—the extension hair does not fully integrate throughout the wearer's head and hair since all the wefts are grouped together in one spot at the back of the head.
  • OBJECTS AND SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to overcome the difficulties of the prior art, by providing a hair extension device that is attractive, comfortable to wear, and easy to apply and remove.
  • In accordance with the invention, a hair extension device for providing hair extensions for integration into a user's hair, comprises a plurality of wefts connected to each other, configured to generally accommodate a portion of the user's head, and configured with openings to allow some of the user's hair to be pulled through the extension device. Hair extensions are attached to selected portions of the wefts, and a plurality of clips are connected to the wefts and adapted to allow the secure attachment of the hair extension device to the user's hair.
  • In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the openings provided in the configuration of the wefts are on the order of approximately one inch, when applied to the user's head, measured in a generally vertical direction. Further, at least two of the wefts, when in use, have a substantially horizontal orientation and are vertically separated by a distance on the order of approximately one inch, and a generally U-shaped weft is provided, and the horizontally oriented wefts are connected at their ends to the generally U-shaped weft. The hair extension device can further include a vertically oriented piece attached at its ends to the approximate centers of the topmost weft and the U-shaped weft, to thereby define at least four quadrants through which some of the user's hair may be pulled through the extension device.
  • Preferably, the wefts and vertically oriented piece are made from a flexible elastic material, and in a preferred embodiment, five clips are connected to the wefts, three on the uppermost weft and two on the U-shaped weft, to allow the hair extension device to be applied to the user's head.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING
  • These and other objects aspects of the invention will be described with reference to
  • FIG. 1, which illustrates the hair extension device in accordance with the preferred embodiment.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • FIG. 1 illustrates the hair extension device, in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the present invention, oriented as it would be in use on a user's head. As shown in the FIGURE, the device is comprised of two generally parallel and horizontally oriented hair wefts 2 and 3, the ends of which are connected to a U-shaped weft 4, and a central, generally vertical piece 5, which is connected at its ends at approximately the midpoint of upper weft 2 and the U-shaped weft 4. The vertical piece can also be affixed to the center of weft 3, if desired. Although a total of three wefts are shown in FIG. 1, it will be appreciated that other numbers of wefts can be employed if desired. The wefts preferably are attached at approximately one-inch vertical intervals to thereby form quadrants 10 which allow the user to pull her hair through the open spaces formed by the vertical separation between the wefts, as described below.
  • In use, the wefts 2 and 3 are oriented in a generally horizontal direction. It will be appreciated that this configuration will conform to the shape of the back and sides of the user's head. The wefts 2-4 and vertical piece 5 are preferably made of a flexible elastic material. The hair extensions 6, which may be artificial or natural hair, preferably are secured to selected portions of the wefts 2-4, although hair extensions alternatively may be attached to only certain of the wefts, to the exclusion of others, as desired.
  • In the preferred embodiment, five clips 8 are provided, as shown, three preferably near the edges and center of the top weft 2 and two a bit closer to the midline of the bottom weft 4, although different numbers and arrangements of clips may be used, as desired, as long as the number and location of the clips allow the secure and comfortable attachment and easy application and removal of the extension device.
  • In use, the user securely applies the extension device to her head by using the clips 8 to attach the device to the user's existing hair. The user can then pull her own hair through the open spaces formed by the quadrants 10, to create a fuller, integrated and attractive look.
  • Thus, the hair extension device in accordance with the present invention, unlike the prior art, is comfortable to wear, attractive and easy to apply and remove, and can create an even and all-over enhancement to the entire back and sides of the wearer's hair.
  • Although the present invention has been described in connection with the foregoing description and drawing of the preferred embodiment, it will be appreciated that the present invention is not limited thereto, and will be defined as set forth in the following claims.
