Definitions
- Some implementations relate generally to cases for storing makeup brushes and makeup sponges, and more specifically, to a case having vent openings for distribution of air to the interior of the case.
- Makeup brushes are used to apply makeup, such as foundation or various other powder forms of cosmetics, and come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and configurations. These brushes typically come packaged with a slip on plastic cover to enclose the bristles of the makeup brush to prevent damage to the bristles prior to sale of the brush. Before use, the plastic cover is discarded as it is generally unsuitable for later protecting the bristles of the makeup brush.
- the plastic cover is generally a low quality material that tightly binds the bristles of the brush during transport and prior to sale. The included plastic cover is unsuitable to store the makeup brush after the initial use because it is very difficult to reattach the plastic cover, which may also compress the bristles of the makeup brush.
- Uncased brushes collect dust and bacteria from open surroundings that could harm the user. Additionally, oftentimes makeup, or stray items are also stored in the purse or bag. This damage could result in loosening of bristles, bending or breakage of bristles, non-uniformity of bristles, and the like. In other cases, the damage could come from products inadvertently spilt in the purse or bag that then come in contact with the bristles of the brush.
- Previous solutions for storing and transporting a makeup brush require the user to place the makeup brush in a larger makeup bag, or re-sealable plastic bag, and place this large bag inside of a purse or other carrying bag. This method is generally cumbersome and undesirable because it consumes too much space within the purse or bag. Additionally, the makeup contained on the bristles may stain the area of storage. If the brush is simply placed in a purse, or other article, the brush and/or article is likely to become damaged or stained.

Thus, after washing one's brushes it is important that the brushes be supported in a non-harmful and hygienic manner and allowed to air dry for sanitary purposes.
- a makeup sponge is a cosmetic sponge used to apply and remove certain types of makeup, moisturizer, and cleanser.
- makeup sponges can be contoured as wedge shapes, egg shapes, round puffs or any other shape or texture required to achieve application or removal of a product.
- the makeup sponge can also be infused with vitamins and its material can be smooth, rough, porous or dense. A sponge with larger pores may soak up too much of the liquid, therefore the application would not be smooth as the large craters that would cause different amounts of makeup to be distributed as the makeup sponge is pulled across the face.
- the sponge becomes wet it expands into a larger form and will shrink to its original size when at its dry state.
- a makeup sponge is at its smallest size when dry.
- the present invention relates to protective devices that ventilate a wet and dry makeup brush or makeup sponge within a ventilated storage case designed for portability and, more specifically, a sanitary method to protect the bristles of a makeup brush or a makeup sponge.
- Benefits of using the ventilated makeup case include preventing the bristles and the sponge from being damaged during storage, thus, extending the life of the makeup brush or sponge.
- a plurality of openings located on the body member allow air to circulate in a free convective flow or forced convective flow within the case so that it may dry a wet brush or sponge.
- the user will be able to store a used or washed brush allowing less downtime in-between uses waiting for brush to dry.
- the ventilation provided by the openings in the case will provide a sanitary means for storing and drying the makeup brush and sponge after usage.
- Wet makeup brush bristles and facial sponge can become harmful to the user if not properly dried after usage, as this encourages the growth of mold and bacteria.
- the bacteria and fungi that build up on the sponge can spread onto the user's skin causing a number of problems such as infection, redness, swelling, and even breakouts.
- a makeup brush is used and/or washed and stored damp, it can dry out to provide better sanitary solutions for the user.
- cosmetic brush cases and sponge cases having a functional interior section with a plurality of vent openings designed for airing and protecting a plurality of bristles of a makeup brush or makeup sponge.
- the cases are configured in such a way for both sections of the body to unite to provide a container for the head of the brush or sponge. It is a further object to provide a cover which may be removed from and applied to the bristle portion of the brush without the possibility of coming into contact with the bristles themselves so that the bristles are not deformed.
- a central opening is formed on a bottom surface of the body member for allowing a handle of the makeup brush to protrude out of the cover.
- a plurality of vent openings is located on the body member for allowing air to circulate within the cover.
- vent openings fixed in the wall of the cover By virtue of having vent openings fixed in the wall of the cover a user may place the brush into the case in between uses with less downtime waiting for brush or sponge to dry.
- the case is dimensioned for easy storage into standard sized makeup bags and allows for lightweight portability, prevents makeup stains and may extend the life of the brush or sponge.

Abstract
Disclosed herein are cosmetic brush cases and sponge cases having a functional interior section with a plurality of vent openings designed for airing and protecting a plurality of bristles of a makeup brush or makeup sponge. The cases are configured in such a way for both sections of the body to unite to provide a container for the head of the brush or sponge.
Description
- This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/317,591, entitled “Ventilated Makeup Case” and filed on Apr. 3, 2016, and of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/374,800, entitled “Ventilated Makeup Case” and filed on Aug. 13, 2016, both of which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.
The plastic cover is generally a low quality material that tightly binds the bristles of the brush during transport and prior to sale.
- Other solutions for storing and transporting a makeup brush include a closed case with no vent openings which do not permit air to circulate within the cover allowing brush bristles to dry after use and/or wash thus encourage growth of bacteria or other unsanitary conditions because of the tendency of bacteria to grow in a moist atmosphere. Some conventional solutions may put the user's hygiene at risk of applying bacteria collected in the bristles of the brush to the user's skin.
- Typically, part of caring for cosmetic brushes includes washing the bristles of the brushes and allowing them to dry. It is the bristles of cosmetic brushes that most affect the cost of the brushes. After washing the brush, there is a proper way to transport a wet brush to prevent damage to the brush which is used mainly on the facial area. Thus, after washing one's brushes it is important that the brushes be supported in a non-harmful and hygienic manner and allowed to air dry for sanitary purposes.
- Furthermore, a makeup sponge is a cosmetic sponge used to apply and remove certain types of makeup, moisturizer, and cleanser. Depending on the purpose, makeup sponges can be contoured as wedge shapes, egg shapes, round puffs or any other shape or texture required to achieve application or removal of a product. The makeup sponge can also be infused with vitamins and its material can be smooth, rough, porous or dense. A sponge with larger pores may soak up too much of the liquid, therefore the application would not be smooth as the large craters that would cause different amounts of makeup to be distributed as the makeup sponge is pulled across the face. When the sponge becomes wet it expands into a larger form and will shrink to its original size when at its dry state. A makeup sponge is at its smallest size when dry.
- In accordance of the present invention, it is an object of the present invention to provide a ventilated makeup case. The present invention relates to protective devices that ventilate a wet and dry makeup brush or makeup sponge within a ventilated storage case designed for portability and, more specifically, a sanitary method to protect the bristles of a makeup brush or a makeup sponge.
- Benefits of using the ventilated makeup case include preventing the bristles and the sponge from being damaged during storage, thus, extending the life of the makeup brush or sponge. A plurality of openings located on the body member allow air to circulate in a free convective flow or forced convective flow within the case so that it may dry a wet brush or sponge.
- The user will be able to store a used or washed brush allowing less downtime in-between uses waiting for brush to dry. The ventilation provided by the openings in the case will provide a sanitary means for storing and drying the makeup brush and sponge after usage. Wet makeup brush bristles and facial sponge can become harmful to the user if not properly dried after usage, as this encourages the growth of mold and bacteria. The bacteria and fungi that build up on the sponge can spread onto the user's skin causing a number of problems such as infection, redness, swelling, and even breakouts. Thus, if a makeup brush is used and/or washed and stored damp, it can dry out to provide better sanitary solutions for the user.

The cases are configured in such a way for both sections of the body to unite to provide a container for the head of the brush or sponge. It is a further object to provide a cover which may be removed from and applied to the bristle portion of the brush without the possibility of coming into contact with the bristles themselves so that the bristles are not deformed. It is a further object to provide a makeup brush or sponge case which is open at one end portion thereof and which has an inner ribbed lining, permitting the cover to slide lengthwise of the makeup brush or sponge in a channel provided in the cover for that purpose, the inner ribbed lining fastening the bristles when the brush is not in use and the end opening in the cover allowing circulation of air so that the bristles may dry during non-use. A central opening is formed on a bottom surface of the body member for allowing a handle of the makeup brush to protrude out of the cover. A plurality of vent openings is located on the body member for allowing air to circulate within the cover. By virtue of having vent openings fixed in the wall of the cover a user may place the brush into the case in between uses with less downtime waiting for brush or sponge to dry. The case is dimensioned for easy storage into standard sized makeup bags and allows for lightweight portability, prevents makeup stains and may extend the life of the brush or sponge.
