Abstract

Described is a jacket having removable arm pit sections. The jacket includes removable fabric sections attached proximate the sleeve openings on an interior side of the jacket. The removable fabric sections are machine or hand washable such that the removable fabric sections can easily be removed, washed, and reattached to the jacket such that the entire jacket does not need to be dry cleaned as often.

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

This is a non-provisional application of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/406,225, filed in the United States on Oct. 10, 2016, entitled, “Blazer Having Removable Arm Pit Section,” the entirety of which is incorporated herein by reference.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

(1) Field of Invention

The present invention relates to a garment and, more particularly, to a garment having removable arm pit sections.

(2) Description of Related Art

Clothing and fashion markets are a worldwide business full of energy, passion, and innovation. Various companies compete for market share by providing fashion appeal to customers as well as innovative designs that have fashion appeal as well as utility. Utility within clothing may be most desired as society expects more and more functionality from everyday items.
One such area where utility is lacking is with a particular style of clothing called blazers. A drawback with lined blazers is the need to dry clean the blazer versus being able to just throw the blazer into a common clothes washer. This is due to the fabrics used in both the blazer and lining of the blazer. A primary reason for the need to get a blazer dry-cleaned is armpit sweat. The sweat from the armpit area traditionally causes garments to smell, making it impossible to wear repeatedly before drycleaning.
Thus, a continuing need exists for a garment that allows the wearer to remove and machine wash sections of the garment that would otherwise need to be dry cleaned.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates garment and, more particularly, to a garment having removable arm pit sections. The garment is a jacket comprising a pair of removable fabric sections, wherein each removable fabric section is detachably attachable proximate a sleeve opening on an interior side of the jacket.
In another aspect, the jacket further comprises at least one attachment mechanism proximate each sleeve opening for securing each removable fabric section.
In another aspect, the at least one attachment mechanism is at least one of a button, a zipper, a magnet, a snap fastener, a hook and loop fastener, and a clasp and hook fastener.
In another aspect, each of the removable fabric sections comprises at least one attachment mechanism for securing the removable fabric section to the interior side of the jacket.
In another aspect, the at least one attachment mechanism is at least one of a button, a zipper, a magnet, a snap fastener, a hook and loop fastener, and a clasp and hook fastener.
In another aspect, the pair of removable fabric sections are comprised of a washable material.
In another aspect, each removable fabric section extends a length of the jacket.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The present invention relates to a garment and, more particularly, to a garment having removable arm pit sections. The following description is presented to enable one of ordinary skill in the art to make and use the invention and to incorporate it in the context of particular applications. Various modifications, as well as a variety of uses, in different applications will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art, and the general principles defined herein may be applied to a wide range of embodiments. Thus, the present invention is not intended to be limited to the embodiments presented, but is to be accorded with the widest scope consistent with the principles and novel features disclosed herein.

However, it will be apparent to one skilled in the art that the present invention may be practiced without necessarily being limited to these specific details. (1) Specific Details of Various Embodiments

The subject matter disclosed herein is related to a garment having arm pit sections that can be removed from the garment and separately cleaned. In one embodiment, the garment is a blazer. A blazer is a type of jacket resembling a suit jacket, but typically cut more casually. A blazer is generally distinguished from a sport coat as a more formal garment. As can be appreciated by one skilled in the art, the garment may also be a sport coat or a suit jacket.
FIG. 1 illustrates a blazer 100 having a pair of removable arm pit sections/panels 102 according to an embodiment of the subject matter disclosed herein. Blazers 100 are a current staple, both in the office and outside of the office as a fashion statement. One pain point with lined blazers 100 is the need to dry clean the blazer 100 versus being able to just throw the blazer 100 into the common clothes washes. This is due to the fabrics used in both the blazer 100 and lining of the blazer. A primary reason for the need to get a blazer 100 dry-cleaned is armpit sweat. The sweat from the armpit area traditionally causes garments to smell, making it impossible to wear without embarrassment.
In order to solve this problem, the blazer 100 depicted in FIG. 1 includes machine washable removable armpit sections panels 102. Instead of going to the dry cleaner every week, the present invention will allow the wearer to detach the arm pit panels 102 and wash them at home in a common clothes washer. This allows the owner to wear the garment more than they conventionally would between dry cleanings. The removable washable sections 102 will allow users to receive the benefits of traditional blazer 100 structure and fabrics, while also have the convenience of cleaning the fabric around the armpit region by removing this section 102 and washing it by hand or in a washing machine. The blazer 100 includes attachment points for the removable arm pit sections that comprise buttons, zippers, magnets, or the like.
FIG. 2 shows a side view of one of the removable arm pit sections 102 of the blazer 100 of FIG. 1 in a folded configuration according to an embodiment of the subject matter disclosed herein. As can be appreciated by one skilled in the art, the inserts/sections 102 can be constructed from any washable garment material, such as a woven material/fabric or a knit material/fabric. The arm pit sections 102 are removable and detachably attachable to the blazer 100 via at least one attachment mechanism 200, non-limiting examples of which include snap fasteners, buttons, zippers, a book and loop mechanism, magnets, a clasp and hook fastener, or the like that provides the removable functionality. In the view depicted in FIG. 2, the flap portion (depicted in FIG. 3 as element 300) is tucked in and not visible.
The arm pit section 102 may extend the entire length of the blazer 100, as depicted in FIGS. 1 and 5. Alternatively, the arm pit section 102 may be a shorter length than the length of the blazer 100. In one embodiment, the width of the removable section 102 may have a width roughly equal to the width of a human arm. The removable section 102 may further have a flap portion (element 300) that conforms to the lower pocket of a beginning of a sleeve. In this manner, the flap folds down into the sleeve creating a covering of the armpit section of the blazer sleeve. There may be an attachment point having an attachment mechanism at the tip of the flap so as to maintain position of the removable arm pit section 102 while in use.
FIG. 3 shows a front view of one of the removable arm pit sections 102 of the blazer 100 of FIG. 1 according to an embodiment of the subject matter disclosed herein. In FIG. 3, the flap portion (element 300) is shown having an attachment mechanism (element 302), which may be a magnet, button, or any other suitable attachment mechanism for securing the flap portion (element 300) to the inside of the sleeve of the garment.
FIG. 4 shows a back view of one of the removable arm pit sections 102 of the blazer 100 of FIG. 1 according to an embodiment of the subject matter disclosed herein. FIG. 5 is an illustration of a removable arm pit section 102 before insertion into the blazer 100 according to embodiments of the present disclosure. The arrows indicate the direction of insertion. As shown, the attachment mechanism 302, such as a snap fastener, of the removable arm pit section 102 will connect with an attachment mechanism 500 in the blazer 100 to detachably attach the removable arm pit section 102 to the interior of the blazer 100.
The innovation can be constructed using any garment fabrication, woven or knit. The removable sections may be made from one or more of several different materials. Non-limiting examples of materials include cotton, polyester, rayon, tencel, linen, wool, cashmere, lambs wool, mohair, alpaca, angora, silk, nylon, lycra, flax, bamboo, hemp, modal, pima, ramie, soy, acrylic, acetate, lurex, lyocell, luminex, or any combination thereof.
It will be readily apparent to persons skilled in the relevant arts that various modifications and improvements may be made to the foregoing embodiments, in addition to those already described, without departing from the basic inventive concepts of the present invention. While the subject matter discussed herein is susceptible to various modifications and alternative constructions, certain illustrated embodiments thereof are shown in the drawings and have been described above in detail. It should be understood, however, that there is no intention to limit the claims to the specific forms disclosed, but on the contrary, the intention is to cover all modifications, alternative constructions, and equivalents falling within the spirit and scope of the claims.

Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A jacket comprising:

a pair of removable fabric sections, wherein each removable fabric section is detachably attachable proximate a sleeve opening on an interior side of the jacket.

2. The jacket as set forth in claim 1, further comprising at least one attachment mechanism proximate each sleeve opening for securing each removable fabric section.

3. The jacket as set forth in claim 2, wherein the at least one attachment mechanism is at least one of a button, a zipper, a magnet, a snap fastener, a hook and loop fastener, and a clasp and hook fastener.

4. The jacket as set forth in claim 1, wherein each of the removable fabric sections comprises at least one attachment mechanism for securing the removable fabric section to the interior side of the jacket.

5. The jacket as set forth in claim 4, wherein the at least one attachment mechanism is at least one of a button, a zipper, a magnet, a snap fastener, a hook and loop fastener, and a clasp and hook fastener.

6. The jacket as set forth in claim 1, wherein the pair of removable fabric sections are comprised of a washable material.

7. The jacket as set forth in claim 1, wherein each removable fabric section extends a length of the jacket.
