FIG. 12 is a front perspective view of the embodiment of the disclosure shown inFIG. 11 . -
FIG. 13 is a cross-sectional view of an embodiment of the disclosure taken along line 13-13 ofFIG. 12 . - With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
FIGS. 1 through 13 thereof, a new fingernail decorating device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by thereference numeral 10 will be described. - As best illustrated in
FIGS. 1 through 13 , theglitter application system 10 generally comprises an adhesive 12 configured for being positioned on afingernail 20. Theadhesive 12 may be provided as comprising a plurality ofpads 16 or may be a fluid applied with a brush. Thepads 16 may comprise a double sided adhesive member wherein each pad has adhesive 12 thereon which is protected withremovable coverings 18 and wherein eachpad 16 is configured to be positioned on asingle fingernail 20. Theadhesive 12 may comprise any material that will adhere material to thefingernail 20. - A
housing 22 is provided that has afirst end 24, a second end 26 aperimeter wall 28 which is attached to and extends between the first 24 and second 26 ends. Thefirst end 24 has a fill opening 29 extending therethrough. Theperimeter wall 28 has a plurality ofapertures 30 extending therethrough. The plurality ofapertures 30 includes at least three apertures and may include up to fiveapertures 30. Each of theapertures 30 has an annular shape and has a diameter that may be less than 0.75 inches and more particularly less than 0.5 inches. Theapertures 30 have a size such that they form at least a partial seal around a person's finger when extended through theapertures 30. However theapertures 30 may include sealing means, not shown, such as a flexible damn having a slit extending therethrough for allowing the finger to move through the aperture but preventing material within thehousing 22 from easily falling out of thehousing 22 when fingers are extended through theapertures 30. Another embodiment of sealing means may include rings positioned on the fingers so that as the fingers are extended through theapertures 30, the rings fill theapertures 30 or cover them to again prevent material from falling out of the housing. - The
apertures 30 may have aperimeter edge 32 comprising a resiliently compressible material to further assist in forming a seal around a finger. Theapertures 30 may be aligned such that four of theapertures 30 are in a row with afifth aperture 30 spaced away therefrom. Such a configuration would allow the fingers of a person to use the aligned ones of theapertures 30 while the thumb is extended through the offset one of theapertures 30. - A quantity of
glitter 34 is positioned within thehousing 12 through the opening 29. Theglitter 34 may comprise any conventional glitter. The quantity may be any amount required sufficiently coat the adhesive when theglitter 34 is randomly spread on theadhesive 12 and may include a volume ofglitter 34 such as approximately 1.0 in3 to 3.0 in3. Aclosure 36 is removably positioned over the opening 29 to selectively close the opening 29. Theclosure 36 may be threadably coupled to thehousing 22. Theclosure 36 and/or thehousing 22 may be at least partially translucent to view the amount of remainingglitter 34 positioned within the housing. - A plurality of
plugs 38 is provided. Each of theplugs 38 is removably positioned in and selectively removable from one of theapertures 30 such that each of theapertures 30 includes one of theplugs 38. Theplugs 38 prevent theglitter 34 from falling outwardly from thehousing 22 through theapertures 30 when theapertures 30 are not being used to placeglitter 34 on a person'sfingernails 20. Theplugs 38 may each include atether 40 secured to thehousing 22 to prevent loss of theplugs 38. -
FIGS. 8-10 depict an embodiment wherein theplugs 38 comprisevalves 50 positioned within thehousing 22. Each of thevalves 50 is positioned over one ofapertures 30 and is biased in a closed position with anelastomeric hinge 52 biasing the associated one of thevalves 50 into a closed position. As can be seen inFIG. 10 , the valves are opened by being urged inwardly with by a user's finger.FIGS. 11-13 include a version wherein the apertures are selectively enlarged by hingeddoors 60. The hinged doors allow for persons with larger fingers to extend their fingers into thehousing 22. - In use, a
glitter 34 is chosen, particularly for color, and placed in thehousing 22. The adhesive 12 is positioned on thefingernails 20 of the person and thefingernails 20 are then extended through theapertures 30. The user may use any number of theapertures 30 such that a single finger or multiple fingers may be placed in thehousing 22 at one time. Thus, theglitter 34 may be changed between uses so that different colors ofglitter 34 may be placed ondifferent fingernails 20. Once thefingernails 20 are in theapertures 30, thehousing 12 is shaken to cause theglitter 34 to coat the adhesive and thereby be adhered to thefingernails 20. Atray 42 may be provided for holding thehousing 22 as well as containers ofglitter 34. - With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
