  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 13 thereof, a new fingernail decorating device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
  • As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 13, the glitter application system 10 generally comprises an adhesive 12 configured for being positioned on a fingernail 20. The adhesive 12 may be provided as comprising a plurality of pads 16 or may be a fluid applied with a brush. The pads 16 may comprise a double sided adhesive member wherein each pad has adhesive 12 thereon which is protected with removable coverings 18 and wherein each pad 16 is configured to be positioned on a single fingernail 20. The adhesive 12 may comprise any material that will adhere material to the fingernail 20.
  • A housing 22 is provided that has a first end 24, a second end 26 a perimeter wall 28 which is attached to and extends between the first 24 and second 26 ends. The first end 24 has a fill opening 29 extending therethrough. The perimeter wall 28 has a plurality of apertures 30 extending therethrough. The plurality of apertures 30 includes at least three apertures and may include up to five apertures 30. Each of the apertures 30 has an annular shape and has a diameter that may be less than 0.75 inches and more particularly less than 0.5 inches. The apertures 30 have a size such that they form at least a partial seal around a person's finger when extended through the apertures 30. However the apertures 30 may include sealing means, not shown, such as a flexible damn having a slit extending therethrough for allowing the finger to move through the aperture but preventing material within the housing 22 from easily falling out of the housing 22 when fingers are extended through the apertures 30. Another embodiment of sealing means may include rings positioned on the fingers so that as the fingers are extended through the apertures 30, the rings fill the apertures 30 or cover them to again prevent material from falling out of the housing.
  • The apertures 30 may have a perimeter edge 32 comprising a resiliently compressible material to further assist in forming a seal around a finger. The apertures 30 may be aligned such that four of the apertures 30 are in a row with a fifth aperture 30 spaced away therefrom. Such a configuration would allow the fingers of a person to use the aligned ones of the apertures 30 while the thumb is extended through the offset one of the apertures 30.
  • A quantity of glitter 34 is positioned within the housing 12 through the opening 29. The glitter 34 may comprise any conventional glitter. The quantity may be any amount required sufficiently coat the adhesive when the glitter 34 is randomly spread on the adhesive 12 and may include a volume of glitter 34 such as approximately 1.0 in3 to 3.0 in3. A closure 36 is removably positioned over the opening 29 to selectively close the opening 29. The closure 36 may be threadably coupled to the housing 22. The closure 36 and/or the housing 22 may be at least partially translucent to view the amount of remaining glitter 34 positioned within the housing.
  • A plurality of plugs 38 is provided. Each of the plugs 38 is removably positioned in and selectively removable from one of the apertures 30 such that each of the apertures 30 includes one of the plugs 38. The plugs 38 prevent the glitter 34 from falling outwardly from the housing 22 through the apertures 30 when the apertures 30 are not being used to place glitter 34 on a person's fingernails 20. The plugs 38 may each include a tether 40 secured to the housing 22 to prevent loss of the plugs 38.
  • FIGS. 8-10 depict an embodiment wherein the plugs 38 comprise valves 50 positioned within the housing 22. Each of the valves 50 is positioned over one of apertures 30 and is biased in a closed position with an elastomeric hinge 52 biasing the associated one of the valves 50 into a closed position. As can be seen in FIG. 10, the valves are opened by being urged inwardly with by a user's finger. FIGS. 11-13 include a version wherein the apertures are selectively enlarged by hinged doors 60. The hinged doors allow for persons with larger fingers to extend their fingers into the housing 22.
  • In use, a glitter 34 is chosen, particularly for color, and placed in the housing 22. The adhesive 12 is positioned on the fingernails 20 of the person and the fingernails 20 are then extended through the apertures 30. The user may use any number of the apertures 30 such that a single finger or multiple fingers may be placed in the housing 22 at one time. Thus, the glitter 34 may be changed between uses so that different colors of glitter 34 may be placed on different fingernails 20. Once the fingernails 20 are in the apertures 30, the housing 12 is shaken to cause the glitter 34 to coat the adhesive and thereby be adhered to the fingernails 20. A tray 42 may be provided for holding the housing 22 as well as containers of glitter 34.
  • With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
