Abstract

Invention is a do it yourself tape-in hair extensions weft kit for attaching colored hair fiber streaks to the scalp and hair of dolls and toy styling heads for the purpose of adding decorative color to the hair. The colored streaks consists of strands of artificial fibers or real human hair arranged in a weft with glue and pressure sensitive adhesive to attach to the head of dolls. The colored hair streaks consists of a plurality of colors in flat, glossy, neon, and metallic finishes, whereby colors could be attached to the head of dolls in any creative combination desired by the individual. The adhesive products are non-toxic for child safety.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

It is a fact that toy dolls are frequently accessorized and receive embellishments from head to toe. In the case of the doll's head, the area of the hair has received as much attention as one might find in a hair salon, including accessorizing the hair with color. Doll cosmetology heads exist for kids to exercise hair styles and practice the latest trends in hair decorating. It is valuable to the child and non-child alike to be able to manipulate the hair styling of the toy doll, and whose value is increased when an accessory allows more variability in the ability to adjust the aesthetic of the doll's hair, allowing the child to exercise their creativity.
To affect a change of hair color or its addition to the hair of a doll, various embodiments exist, from total hair transplants to chalking the hair, to adding clip in extensions, but whose limitations do not allow the further potential to decorate and enhance the play time and value of the doll.
The invention consists of adding streaks of artificial or human hair to the hair of dolls for the purpose of decorating the head with streaks of hair colors, whose plurality of colors includes various finishes in flat, glossy, neon, and metallic and is attached to the head of dolls with pressure sensitive adhesive. The colored hair wefts may also be installed in heads of cosmetology dolls used by children. The colored hair wefts are typically added to dolls that have existing hair in solid colors or whose hair have some multitude of color added by the manufacture of the dolls. The dolls are played and collected by children and adults. The hair wefts are made available for any size doll from three inches and taller. The purpose is to allow the individual the creative freedom to decorate the hair of dolls in a multitude of colors and place the wefts of colors in any placement on the head of dolls for a desired effect. Unlike clip-in decorative doll hair extensions that sit atop doll heads and that currently exists in the marketplace, tape-in decorative doll hair extensions allows the placement of colored streaks under the hair in various layers as desired, whose attachment could be hidden from view. Furthermore, unlike clip-in extensions, tape-in hair allows for stacking different colors, and adding subtle colors in a “peek-a-boo” affect, placing the weft on the hair or scalp of the doll or kid's styling head.
The attractiveness of the invention allows the user to take a method heretofore only available to professional hairstylists and apply the user's creativity in the decorative arts to the hair styling of dolls. Strands of hair, or hair wefts, could be added to the doll head as a single color or combination of colors as desired by the doll owner to create a particular effect.
Adding seamless tape-in hair extensions to dolls could not be found, however, I will describe in greater detail current hair extensions available for dolls and other hair accessories, and where I offer a significantly different and creative use of tape-in extensions for dolls.
The novel idea feeds the consumer's desire to accessories their dolls in a creative manner using contemporary fashion designs and techniques.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates generally to toy dolls and cosmetology heads and particularly to dolls having synthetic or artificial hair and toy styling heads from which a horizontal strip of pressure sensitive tape may be attached with strands of colored synthetic or real hair to the head and scull of dolls.

DESCRIPTION OF SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING

FIG. 1 is drawing of hair extension weft attached to the hair of a doll in one embodiment.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION

The hair extension kit includes a plurality of hair and hair-like fibers in an assortment of colors arranged in a weft with a film backing and a pressure sensitive adhesive to attach to the head of the doll. The pressure sensitive adhesive may be attached to the hair or scalp of the doll. The hair extension kit may include loose hair or hair-like fiber bundles in a variety of colors where the user could mix and match colors in a weft. Furthermore, kit may also include a non-toxic craft adhesive, single-sided pressure sensitive tape, and a double-coated pressure sensitive tape with a removable liner on one side. Child may manufacture hair weft in any custom configuration to accessorize a doll's hair.
The hair extension do it yourself kit may be installed on the hair (10; FIG. 1) of the doll or scalp (13; FIG. 2) by a pressure sensitive tape assembly (11). The tape assembly could be attached directly to the hair (10; FIG. 1) of the doll or between the hair channels on the scull (16; FIG. 2). The ability to make hair weft extensions (12, 13, 14, 15) appropriate to the size of the doll head is aided by ability to custom make hair wefts from loose hair and hair-like fibers (17) by arranging fibers in a single layer (FIGS. 3, 4, and 5), applying a layer of liquid glue (18) across the horizontal web of fibers (FIG. 3), then applying a pressure sensitive adhesive (20) plastic film (21) tape over the glue (18). The assembly is then turned over (FIG. 5) where liquid glue (18) is applied horizontally over the paper backed (22) pressure sensitive adhesive (20). The un-converted hair assembly (FIG. 6, FIG. 7) is then trimmed for height (FIG. 6) and width (FIG. 7) with scissors (23). Once trimmed to size, the hair weft (FIG. 8) is ready to be applied to head of doll.

Claims

I claim:

1. A tape-in hair extension system to add colored streaks of hair fibers to the head of dolls and toy styling heads.

a. A weft of colored synthetic or human hair fibers appropriate and proportional to size of toy doll's head, and approximating the texture and brush-ability of human hair.

b. At the top end of hair weft, a strip of pressure sensitive adhesive tape attached horizontally to the weft of hair.

c. Remove pressure sensitive adhesive liner to expose the adhesive and attach to the head of the doll.

d. Subsequent wefts may be attached adjacent, below, above, or on either side of the head.

2. The method in claim 1, further comprising a sandwiched assembly whereby

a. Liquid craft glue labeled as non-toxic to assemble loose fibers into a hair weft and

b. Single-sided pressure sensitive adhesive tape applied over the non-toxic craft liquid glue. Single sided tape could be a polyethylene backed and acrylic adhesive and

c. Double-coated pressure sensitive tape applied over the non-toxic craft liquid glue. Double-coated tape could be composed of an acrylic adhesive and

d. Trim adhesive assembly to desired length and width.
