Description

    BACKGROUND
  • The present disclosure generally relates to an avocado serving board, for example with two avocado-shaped indentations for two avocado halves and possibly with one or more indentations for condiments or condiment holders.
  • SUMMARY
  • Aspects of the subject technology include an avocado serving board including a board and at least one avocado-shaped indentation in the board for holding an avocado or avocado half. The board may also include at least one more avocado-shaped indentation in the board for holding at least one more avocado or avocado half In addition, the board may include indentation(s) for condiments or condiment holders, for example cylindrical shaped indentations. In some aspects, the board is made of avocado tree wood. Aspects of the subject technology also include methods of hand-making and machine manufacturing such avocado serving boards as well as methods of using the board.
  • This brief summary has been provided so that the nature of the invention may be understood quickly. Additional steps and/or different steps than those set forth in this summary may be used. A more complete understanding of the invention may be obtained by reference to the following description in connection with the attached drawings.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 illustrates a first avocado serving board according to aspects of the subject technology.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates a second avocado serving board according to aspects of the subject technology.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates a third avocado serving board according to aspects of the subject technology.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • Briefly, aspects of the subject technology include an avocado serving board including a board and at least one avocado-shaped indentation in the board for holding an avocado or avocado half. The board may also include at least one more avocado-shaped indentation in the board for holding at least one more avocado or avocado half. In addition, the board may include indentation(s) for condiments or condiment holders, for example cylindrical shaped indentations. In some aspects, the board is made of avocado tree wood. Aspects of the subject technology also include methods of hand-making and machine manufacturer of such an avocado serving board.
  • FIG. 1 illustrates a first avocado serving board according to aspects of the subject technology. Serving board 10 in FIG. 1 include two avocado-shaped indentations 12 and 14. When avocado halves are placed in the indentations, the halves are less likely to roll around or roll off the board. The indentations may also be helpful when cutting and otherwise preparing avocados for serving. While two indentations are illustrated in FIG. 1, fewer (e.g., one) or more (e.g., 3 or more) indentations may be provided.
  • Board 10 is shown with a “natural” shape, for example as may be achieved by carving the indentations out of a natural piece of wood. In some aspects, a bottom of the board may be flat as illustrated to facilitate secure placement on a table.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates a second avocado serving board according to aspects of the subject technology. Board 20 include one avocado shaped indentation 22. The board also includes two indentations 24 and 26 for condiments or condiment holders. In FIG. 2, these indentations are semi-spherical shaped. However, any other suitable shape may be used. Examples include but are not limited to shallow partially sphere shaped, cylinder shaped, bowl shaped, oval shaped, square shaped, rectangular shaped, irregularly shaped, or any other shape. In some aspects, the indentations are or include a “ramekin insert.” The board in FIG. 2 also has a squared-off as opposed to a more natural shape.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates a third avocado serving board according to aspects of the subject technology. This figure illustrates that more complex designs are within the scope of avocado serving boards according to aspects of the subject technology. Thus, board 30 in FIG. 3 includes avocado shaped indentations 32, 34, 36, and 38 as well as condiment (or condiment holder) indentations 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, and 52. In FIG. 3, these indentations are cylinder shaped. As stated above, the condiment indentations may have other shape(s). Furthermore, different shaped condiment indentations may be included on the same board.
  • Avocado serving boards according to aspects of the subject technology may be hand-made, for example with wood carving tools, or machine manufactured, for example via CNC machining. Any suitable material may be used for the board. However, in preferred aspects, avocado tree wood is used for its natural anti-microbial properties and aesthetic impact. The aesthetic impact may include a natural fragrance that may compliment food served using the board. For example, avocado wood typically has a slight spicy and/or anise fragrance that may enhances the overall experience of consuming avocado preparations served on the board. The avocado tree wood may be newly harvested or recycled/reclaimed/repurposed wood. In other aspects, other preferably sustainable, renewable, and/or recycled sources, for example made from food byproduct (i.e., sugar cane and rice husks, corn), may be used. Synthetic materials that are preferably treated or formed of anti-microbial materials may also be used.
  • In some aspects, the board may also be used for cooking and/or baking. In that case, the board may be made from a suitably heat-resistant material, for example but not limited to cast iron, other metal(s), ceramic, or the like.
  • If the board is made of an ecologically friendly material, a pit and possibly skin from a consumed avocado may be placed in an indentation in the board for transport to another location. The board with the pit may then be planted to grow a new avocado tree. In some aspects, the board may be malleable so that the board may be crumpled around the pit, thereby possibly providing better protection for the pit. In yet other aspects, the board may include (preferably natural) fertilizers and/or pesticides to improve a chance that the pit matures into an avocado tree.
  • Some possible benefits of avocado serving boards according to the subject technology include but are not limited to helping to prevent or lessen spillage, squashing, oxidation (because the board protects at least part of an outside of an avocado or avocado half place in an avocado shaped indentation), and the like.
  • Additional Aspects
  • Some further possible aspects of the subject technology are set forth below. The technology is not limited to these aspects.
  • The subject technology may be applied to “to-go” or takeaway containers, for example an avocado cup or “cuplet” to take an avocado on the go.
  • The subject technology may be applied to other shaped foodstuffs, for example 1 lobster or lobster-tail serving board, a grapefruit serving board, or the like, with accordingly shaped indentations and benefits.
  • The invention is in no way limited to the specifics of any particular embodiments and examples disclosed herein. For example, the terms “aspect,” “example,” “preferably,” “alternatively,” and the like denote features that may be preferable but not essential to include in some embodiments of the invention. In addition, details illustrated or disclosed with respect to any one aspect of the invention may be used with other aspects of the invention. Additional elements may be added to various aspects of the invention and/or some disclosed elements may be subtracted from various aspects of the invention without departing from the scope of the invention. Singular elements imply plural elements and vice versa. Many other variations are possible which remain within the content, scope, and spirit of the invention, and these variations would become clear to those skilled in the art after perusal of this application.
  • Any non-provisional application that claims priority from this application is not limited in scope of coverage to the following exemplary claims, which are provided to show one possible scope of coverage for the invention.
