Thelongitudinal member 34 is shown affixed to lower surfaces of thefirst cross member 30 andsecond cross member 32. Thefirst cross member 30 defines a first laterally extendingclosed cross section 74. Thesecond cross member 32 defines a second laterally extendingclosed cross section 76. Thefirst reinforcement gusset 54 is shown affixed to a lower surface of thesecond cross member 32 and an upper surface of thelongitudinal member 34. The second mounting atelement 56 is shown extending through thefirst reinforcement gusset 54, thesecond cross member 32, and thefloor panel 14. The second mountingelement 56 may be a bolt that includes ahead portion 78 and a threadedportion 80. The second mountingelement 56 may be an M10 or larger sized bolt. Thehead portion 78 of the second mountingelement 56 may be permanently affixed to thefirst reinforcement gusset 54 by welding, adhesive, etc. Thehead portion 78 of the second mountingelement 56 may be configured to distribute load over a large surface area. For example, thehead portion 78 may have a diameter of 30 mm or larger. Aseat bracket 82 may be secured into position by the second mountingelement 56 and an associatednut 84. - Referring to
FIG. 6 , a cross sectional view of one embodiment of thevehicle underbody 12 taken along line 6-6 ofFIG. 3 is illustrated. Thefloor panel 14 is shown affixed to upper surfaces of thefirst cross member 30 andsecond cross member 32. Thefirst cross member 30 defines a first laterally extendingclosed cross section 74. Thesecond cross member 32 defines a second laterally extendingclosed cross section 76. Thesecond reinforcement gusset 58 is shown affixed to a lower surface of thefloor panel 14. The third mountingelement 60 is shown extending through thesecond reinforcement gusset 58 and thefloor panel 14. The third mountingelement 60 may be a bolt that includes ahead portion 86 and a threadedportion 88. The third mountingelement 60 may be an M10 or larger sized bolt. Thehead portion 86 of the third mountingelement 60 may be permanently affixed to thesecond reinforcement gusset 58 by welding, adhesive, etc. Thehead portion 86 of the third mountingelement 60 may be configured to distribute load over a large surface area. For example, thehead portion 86 may have a diameter of 30 mm or larger. Aseat bracket 90 may be secured into position by the third mountingelement 60 and an associatednut 92. - The
first cross section 74 of thefirst cross member 30 and thesecond cross section 76 of thesecond cross member 32 operate as beams that transfer load forces to adjacent members, such as the pair of laterally spaced apart 44, 46. If a load is applied between a pair of cross members the load may be transferred inefficiently. Additional structural support may be added when loads are applied between a pair of cross members in order to alleviate this inefficiency. For example, the first mountingside members element 52 and the second mountingelement 56, which are both located in between thefirst cross member 30 and thesecond cross member 32, are affixed to thevehicle underbody 12 where there is additional structural support including thelongitudinal member 34 and thefirst reinforcement gusset 54. The additional structural support provided by thelongitudinal member 34 and thereinforcement gusset 54 provide enhanced stiffness between thefirst cross member 30 andsecond cross member 32 allowing for more location flexibility of the mounting 52, 56, and 60.elements - The
70, 82, and 90 inseat brackets FIGS. 4-6 may consist of three separate mounting portions in a single seat bracket, or any combination of two or more seat brackets that may or may not have more than one mounting portion. - Referring to
FIG. 7 , the transfer of load forces among the components of thevehicle underbody 12 is illustrated. When loads are applied to the first, second, and third mounting 52, 56, 60 the loading forces are transferred from the mountingelements 52, 56, and 60 to theelements longitudinal member 34. The loading forces are then transferred from thelongitudinal member 34 to thefirst cross member 30 andsecond cross member 32. And, finally the loading forces are then transferred from thefirst cross member 30 andsecond cross members 32 to the pair of laterally spaced apart 44, 46. The loading forces applied to the mountingside members 52, 56, 60 are indicated inelements FIG. 7 byarrows 94 from a bottom view of thevehicle underbody 12, therefore the loading forces 94 applied to the mounting 52, 56, 60 may include pulling forces on the mountingelements 52, 56, 60 from the upper side of theelements vehicle underbody 12. The loading forces distributed along thelongitudinal member 34,first cross member 30, andsecond cross member 32 are indicated byarrows 96. - The words used in the specification are words of description rather than limitation, and it is understood that various changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the disclosure. As previously described, the features of various embodiments may be combined to form further embodiments of the invention that may not be explicitly described or illustrated. While various embodiments could have been described as providing advantages or being preferred over other embodiments or prior art implementations with respect to one or more desired characteristics, those of ordinary skill in the art recognize that one or more features or characteristics may be compromised to achieve desired overall system attributes, which depend on the specific application and implementation. These attributes may include, but are not limited to cost, strength, durability, life cycle cost, marketability, appearance, packaging, size, serviceability, weight, manufacturability, ease of assembly, etc. As such, embodiments described as less desirable than other embodiments or prior art implementations with respect to one or more characteristics are not outside the scope of the disclosure and may be desirable for particular applications.
