Description

  • This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. patent application Ser. No. 14/298,500, filed 6 Jun. 2014, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to an undergarment and, more particularly, to an undergarment for sitting long periods of time.
  • Undergarments are clothes worn under other clothes, often directly next to the skin. They keep outer garments from being soiled by bodily secretions and discharges. Currently, undergarments are designed to fit the use while standing. However, during long rides on motorcycles truck drivers, persons who are wheelchair bound and any person who is obliged to sit for extended periods of time the undergarments may ride up the between the user's and constrict the user's body parts, which is uncomfortable.
  • As can be seen, there is a need for an improved undergarment for long periods of sitting.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In one aspect of the present invention, an undergarment includes a bottom portion having an upper section, a lower section, and a middle section, wherein the middle section is biased so as to retain a rounded-corner L-shape so that the upper section is substantially perpendicular relative to the lower section; a waist band formed at the upper section of the bottom portion; a first leg portion and a second leg portion, each leg portion attached along a first periphery and a second periphery, respectively, to the upper and lower sections of the bottom portion; and a biased threading along both the first and second peripheries so as to attach the first and second leg portions to the bottom portion so that the bottom portion is furthered biased to continue the rounded-corner L-shape.
  • These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention shown in use;
  • FIG. 2 is a front perspective view of an embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 3 is a side perspective view of the present invention;
  • FIG. 4 is a bottom perspective view of the present invention; and
  • FIG. 5 is an exploded view of the present invention.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
  • Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provides an undergarment used for sitting for long periods of time. The undergarment includes a waist band and leg portions. The waist band of the present invention may be substantially perpendicular to the leg portions. Therefore, the undergarment is cut to shape the user in the sitting position.
  • The present invention is an undergarment designed to ease the discomfort for men and women riding motorcycles or engaged in long distance driving. The present invention is designed to relieve the bunching and/or crawling of your undergarments while seated on/in your vehicle. The seam design of the present invention relieves pressure on the critical areas of blood flow where other designs apply pressure to the body while sitting. The present invention allows the occupant to fit in the underwear creating a natural ergonomic fit while the occupant sits. The fit to sit design is achieved through the cut of the fabric.
  • The artery can be characterized as an elastic muscle layer (Thick) that can handle high pressure of the blood flow. The femoral artery (Femur/Leg) is relatively close to the outer surface of the upper thigh. At this area, the artery divides into smaller branches to supplying blood flow to the thigh muscles and superficial tissues. This also supports the supply of blood to the skin of the groin and lower abdominal wall. The seam design of the present invention is designed to route away from the arteries in the leg and is less intrusive to restricting the flow of blood by a counter increased-concentrated-point of localized pressure. The present invention avoids the femoral artery which is the largest blood flow branch supplying the hip joint and various muscles in the thigh, thigh muscles and nerve network to the knee joint. The present invention allows for less focus on concentrated localized elastic pressure, seen in other designs, by routing biased to the natural flexion from the muscles (movement).
  • The present invention is an undergarment ergonomically cut to fit a motorcycle rider while sitting. Current, undergarments are designed for a person while standing. The present invention provides comfort while sitting for long periods of times since the waist and the legs are shaped in a substantially perpendicular manner. Therefore, the present invention is biased in the shape of a user sitting. The present invention may be relaxed when sitting and may stretch while standing.
  • A common misconception is that all undergarments fit and wear the same while sitting. A glove fits the hand in the natural shape of the hand, but a boxing glove curves to fit a hand, for punching. Truly both of these ergonomic hand utilities serves and functions for its specifically designed task. The present invention—‘Sit to Fit’—is designed to encourage a more natural feel with a curved layout allowing those sitting for more easy comfortable feel to experience greater comfort for long periods while sitting. To wit, portions of the present invention may be made of breathable, 83% polyester/17% or other material or mix of material that excels in comfort when used for sitting for long periods, and include a 1 ½ inch spandex rubber and/or elastic waistband.
  • Referring to FIGS. 1 through 5, the present invention includes an undergarment 10. The undergarment 10 may provide a bottom portion 18, a waist band 26, a first leg portion 14 and second leg portion 16 as separate panels stitched together. The bottom portion 18 may include an upper section 11, a lower section 15, a middle section 13. In certain embodiments, a center portion 12 panel may be provided and disposed between the leg portions 14, 16 and the bottom portion 18.
  • The middle section 13 is formed from a biased cut of material having a general L-shape (with a curved corner) so that the attaching upper section 11 is substantially biased in a perpendicular orientation relative to the lower section 15, which is attached to the opposing end of the middle section 13. The undergarment 10 may further include a waist band 26 formed at the upper section 11 of the bottom portion 18.
  • The undergarment 10 may further include a first leg portion 14 and a second leg portion 16 extending from the lower section 15 of the bottom portion 18. In certain embodiments, the first leg portion 14 may be attached to the first bottom leg portion and the waist band 26, and a second leg portion 16 is attached to the second bottom leg portion and the waist band 26. The first leg portion 14 and the second leg portion 16 are substantially perpendicular relative to the waist band 26. The first leg portion 14 and the second leg portion 16 may have a greater length than the first bottom leg portion and the second bottom leg portion, as illustrated in FIG. 1.
  • The present invention may further include a center panel 12 attaching the first leg portion 14 and the second leg portion 16 to the bottom portion 18 on a front side 17 of the undergarment 10. The center panel 12 may also be formed from a biased cut of material so that the center panel 12 is biased in a U-shape, as illustrated in FIG. 5.
  • Overall, the present invention may include the biased cut central panel 12 and the biased cut middle section 13 along with bias threading 50 along the periphery of the bottom section 18 so that when in a seated position the undergarment 10 may form a “buttock pouch” having a curved shape analogous to the curved shape of a boxing glove, as illustrated in FIGS. 2-4.
  • Along the periphery of the bottom portion 18 (that is not defined by the waist band 26) a biased threading 50 may be applied. The biased threading 50 attaches the bottom portion 18 to the first leg portion 14, the second leg portion 16 and, in certain embodiments, the center panel 12 along a first periphery 44, a second periphery 46 and a center periphery 42, respectively. This biased threading 50 further biases the bottom portion 18 to retain the overall curved L-shape when the undergarment 10 is not worn, as illustrated in FIG. 4, whereby that the upper and lower sections 11 and 15 are biased in a generally orthogonal relationship to each other.
  • The bias cut middle section 13 and biased threading 50, runs from outer edge at or near the midpoint of the hip, downwardly from the waist band 26 curving and transitioning horizontally along the midpoint of the legs, along the first and second peripheries 44, 46 at the point of contact on a seat and the horizontal formation of the skin, and along the bottom of the leg/thigh along the center periphery 42. Thereby the bias cut(s) and biased threading 50 runs along the region of the skin where the skin contact the seat and the skin that is perpendicular between, forming a unique shape that emulates and fits a human in a natural sitting position.
  • The fit molds the body with the ergonomically bias cut middle section 13, biased threading 50 and resulting patterned fit-to-shape buttock pouch, fitting a human as they sit without the material distorting/movement, allowing an expansive fit in the buttocks.
  • This design prevents the back of the waistband 26 brief from moving downward while sitting. It also prevents the crotch of the undergarment 10 from tightening around the genital area while sitting. This considerably reduces discomfort in this area. There may also be an urination egress along the front side 17, when needed.
  • The present invention is specifically targeted to motorcyclists, truck drivers, persons who are wheelchair bound and any person who is obliged to sit for extended periods of time. This is includes those who work with computers and those who fly internationally. These undergarments 10 are also beneficial those who wear gun belts or tools belts. The unique buttock pouch conforms and fits the buttock allowing the buttock to fit into the undergarment while sitting; preventing the rear of the underwear from slip down with pants; which is common among underwear commonly worn. If the current bias configuration is realigned, the redesign will not support the current functions of this design.
  • When clothing applies pressure in sensitive areas, muscles and superficial tissues may become sore. This includes the area to the skin of the groin and vaginal areas. The bias threading 50-formed ‘pouch’ of the present invention is designed to significantly reduce pressure to these areas.
  • It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
