Abstract

A holster that, rather than receiving a handgun, is attached to a sight mount that itself is attached to the rail system of a handgun. The the site mount which is used to mount an optical sight attaches to the handgun by a tactical rail, 1913 picatinny rail, accessory rail, light rail, weaver style rail, or any other rail system. Since the holster is adapted to fit the sight mount, it thus can be used with many different makes and models of handguns.

Description

  • This application is related to and claims priority from U.S. Provisional Patent application No. 61/942,822 filed Feb. 21, 2014. Application 61/942,822 is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.
  • BACKGROUND
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • The present invention relates generally to pistol holsters and more particularly to a holster that does not attach anywhere to the gun, but rather to the gun site mount.
  • 2. Description of the Prior Art
  • Prior art holsters typically require a pistol to be inserted in them. The holster is then further attached to a belt or other device that can secure it to a user's body. It would be advantageous to have a holster that only attached to a removable gun site mount of the type similar to that described in my U.S. Pat. No. 8,393,108. The removable gun sight mount is used to mount and hold optical sights.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a holster that, rather than receiving a handgun, is attached to a sight mount that itself is attached to the handgun.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE FIGURES
  • Attention is now directed to several figures that illustrate features of the present invention:
  • FIG. 1 shows a prior art gunsight mount on a handgun.
  • FIG. 2 shows an embodiment of the holster of the present invention mounted on a gunsight mount on a handgun.
  • FIGS. 3A-3B show respectively a bottom and a top view of the embodiment of FIG. 2.
  • FIG. 4 shows a perspective view of the holster mounted on the sight mount of a handgun.
  • FIG. 5 shows an end-on view of the holster.
  • FIG. 6 shows a top view of the holster.
  • Several drawings and illustrations have been presented to aid in understanding the present invention. The scope of the present invention is not limited to what is shown in the figures.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • As stated, my U.S. Pat. No. 8,393,108 is directed toward a unique gun site mount for a handgun, that is a mount that holds an optical sight. The present invention is directed toward a holster that fits this gun site mount without attaching to the gun itself. It therefore works with many different models of guns. FIG. 1 shows my prior art gun site mount 20 mounted on a handgun 1.
  • FIG. 2 shows an embodiment of the present invention which is a holster 2 fitted over the gun site mount with no attachment to the gun 1 itself. The holster 2 rather attaches to an apparatus (the site mount) that itself is attached to the handgun; tactical rail, 1913 picatinny rail, accessory rail, light rail, weaver style rail, or any other rail system.
  • FIGS. 3A-3B show the bottom and top of an embodiment of the holster 2 of the present invention. The attachment mechanism can be molded thermal plastic and/or injection molding plastic surrounding part or all of the site mount. The mounting holes 4 can be placed in different arrangements for different makes of handguns. The tabs 3 seen in FIGS. 3A-3B are used in molding the holster and play no role in its function or use.
  • FIG. 4 shows another perspective view of the holster on the gun site mount. A pair of fingers 21 appear on both sides of the holster 2 adapted to grip the part of the gunsight mount 22 that matches the rail system of the handgun. The holster itself covers the gunsight mount.
  • FIG. 5 shows an end view, and FIG. 6 shows a top view of the holster.
  • The present invention presents a unique way to incorporate a holster with a removable gun site mount on a handgun.
  • The holster of the present invention can be made of any rigid or semi-rigid material with molded plastic being preferred.
  • Several descriptions and illustrations have been presented to aid in understanding the present invention. One with skill in the art will realize that numerous changes and variations may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention. Each of these changes and variations is within the scope of the present invention.
