  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • In the following detailed description, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of some embodiments of the present invention. However, it will be understood by persons of ordinary skill in the art that some embodiments may be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known methods, procedures, components, units and/or modules have not been described in detail so as not to obscure the discussion.
  • The term “chair” as used herein may include, for example, a plastic chair, a patio chair, a balcony chair, a porch chair, a lawn chair, a yard chair, an outdoor chair, an indoor chair, a stackable chair, a nestable chair, an Adirondack chair, an armchair, or other suitable types of chairs.
  • The term “cup-holder” as used herein may include, for example, a crater suitable for holding or storing therein a cup or a bottle or a can or a container (e.g., a container for liquid).
  • The present invention may include, for example, a mono-block plastic armchair (e.g., Adirondack chair, formed of injection molding of raw plastic material(s), or formed of a single injection molding) having a cup-holder integrated within one of its arms (or armrests).
  • Reference is made to FIGS. 1-17, which depict multiple views of a chair 100 and/or its components, in accordance with some demonstrative embodiments of the present invention. Chair 100 may comprise four legs 101-104 holding a generally-horizontal (or slightly slanted, relative to an entirely-horizontal plane) surface 105 allowing a person to sit thereon. In some embodiments, each leg may be non-conical, or non-cylindrical; or shaped as a structure other than a cylinder and/or other than a cone and/or other than a frustum and/or other than a pillar. For example, as demonstrated in FIG. 2, leg 102 may be formed of three (or more) panels or regions: a first generally-vertical elongated panel 102A, connected perpendicularly or generally-perpendicularly to a second generally-vertical elongated panel 102B; and each one of the generally-vertical and inter-connected panels 102A and 102B may be perpendicularly or generally-perpendicularly connected to a smaller, generally-horizontal base panel 102B; thereby defining the leg 102. The other legs (101 and/or 103 and/or 104) may be similarly structured. In some embodiments, one or more of the panels of leg 102, for example, the elongated panel 102A, may be an integral extension of an armrest (e.g., of armrest 112 described herein).
  • The chair 100 may further comprise a back panel 106, which may be generally-vertical (or slightly slanted relative to an entirely-vertical plane), allowing a person to rest his back thereon. The chair 100 may further comprise two armrests 111-112, allowing a person to rest his arms thereon.
  • One or more of the armrests 111-112 (for example, armrest 111) may comprise an integrated built-in cup-holder 120. For example, the right-arm armrest may comprise the cup-holder 120; or the left-arm armrest 112 may comprise the cup-holder 120; or both armrests 111-112 may comprise two respective integrated cup-holders 120. In some embodiments, a single armrest (e.g., armrest 111, or armrest 112) may comprise two (or more) cup-holders 120, which may be positioned or located in series along the armrest, for example, in proximity to each other, or bordering each other; thereby allowing a use to store two cups (or two items) in such pair of neighboring cup-holders 120 integrated within a single armrest.
  • In some embodiments, the cup-holder 120 may be generally circular or round; or may be oval or egg-shaped. In other embodiments, the cup-holder 120 may have other suitable shape (e.g., cube, cuboid, rectangular, square shaped, triangular, polygon shape), for example, thereby enabling to store therein other content or non-liquid content (e.g., snacks, almonds, peanuts, chips, seeds, cereal, dry grains, dry food, or the like).
  • The cup-holder 120 may be formed as a crater-shaped structure, and may be located at or near the front edge (or the front region, or the front area) of the armrest 111. In some embodiments, the cup-holder 120 may not protrude beyond the armrest 111 itself, or beyond the contour of the armrest 111. In some embodiments, the contour or circumference of cup-holder 120 may not protrude beyond the armrest 111 itself, or beyond the contour of the armrest 111. In some embodiments, the entirety of the circumference of the cup-holder 120 may be contained within the straight lines or the edges that define the contour of the armrest 111; for example, within (or internally to) the area defined by straight line 131 (an external straight-line edge of armrest 111), straight line 132 (an internal straight-line edge of armrest 111), straight line 133 (a front-side straight-line edge of armrest 111), and straight line 134 (a rear-side or rear-area straight-line edge of armrest 111).
  • For demonstrative purposes, reference is made to FIG. 3, which shows and marks the four lines 131-134, which may be straight lines, or generally-straight lines, or mostly-straight lines; as well as to FIG. 11, which shows in a darker, thicker drawing line the four lines 131-134, as well as the trapezoid shape 135 of armrest 111 which confines the entirety of the circumference of cup-holder 120. Other suitable shapes may be used, instead of trapezoid 135; for example, a generally-rectangular shape of armrest 111, which may entirely confine therein the cup-holder 120 in its entirety, without the cup-holder 120 protruding out of such trapezoid or rectangle or polygon, and without the cup-holder 120 creating a protrusion or a “bump out” relative to such trapezoid or rectangle or polygon.
  • In some embodiments, the structure of armrest 111, which comprises therein the integrated cup-holder 120, may be such that the cup-holder does not protrude out of a generally-rectangular contour (or top-view cross-section) of armrest 111; or such that the cup-holder does not protrude out of a generally-trapezoid contour (or top-view cross-section) of armrest 111.
  • In some embodiments, at least one-half of the top circular edge of cup-holder 120 may be at the same horizontal height of armrest 111; whereas, the remainder (e.g., one-half, or less than one-half) of the top circular edge of cup-holder 120 may slightly protrude upwardly and vertically relative to armrest 111.
  • For example, as demonstrated in FIG. 17, points 140A, 140B and 140C of the top circular edge or rim or top-circumference of cup-holder 120 may be at the same horizontal height of armrest 111 (or, at the same vertical distance relative to the floor or ground); whereas points 140D and 140E of the top circular edge of cup-holder 120 may slightly protrude upwardly and vertically relative to the curving-down portion of the front-facing region of armrest 111.
  • In some embodiments, as demonstrated in FIG. 17, points 140D and 140E may be located over a portion of armrest 111 which curves downwardly towards the ground; and not over a generally-horizontal portion of armrest 111; and not over any of the legs 101-104 of the chair 100.
  • In some embodiments, the cup-holder 120 may be located, at least partially, over a portion of armrest 111 which curves downwardly towards the ground; and not over a generally-horizontal portion of armrest 111; and not over any of the legs 101-104 of the chair 100.
  • In some embodiments, the cup-holder 120 may be located, entirely or at least partially, in a portion or region of armrest 111 that is not located vertically over any of the legs 101-104.
  • In some embodiments, cup-holder 120 may not protrude vertically beyond the top-most surface of the armrest 111; such that, for example, points 140D and 140E of cup-holder 120 may be linear with (or, on the same surface or plane as) points 140G and 140H and 140K of armrest 111.
  • In some embodiments, armrest 111 may be implemented as an elongated member having a cross-section resembling an upside-down “U” shape or an “n” shape. For example, as demonstrated in FIG. 14, the armrest 111 may be implemented as an internal-side generally-vertical panel 161, connected generally-perpendicularly to a top-side (or upper-side) generally-horizontal panel 162 (e.g., generally parallel to the ground or floor; or slightly slanted by up to 5 or 10 or 15 or 20 degrees, relative to a plane that is parallel to the ground); connected generally-perpendicularly to an external-side generally-vertical panel 161. The three panels 161-163 of the armrest 111 may define an “n” shaped armrest structure, that may confine therein the cup-holder 120. The cup-holder 120 may be implemented as a crater extending downwardly within such armrest member, such that a bottom surface 121 of cup-holder 120 may be at a lower level (vertically) relative to the lower edge of armrest 111.
  • For example, as demonstrated in FIG. 12, point 140M of bottom surface 121, may be lower (vertically) relative to point 140N of armrest 111; or, point 140M of bottom surface 121, may be closer to the ground or the floor, relative to point 140N of armrest 111. For example, the cup-holder 120 may protrude downwardly, as a downward-protruding crater, or as a deep crater, relative to the armrest 111 and/or relative to the contour or rim(s) or edge(s) of armrest 111; extending downwardly deeper than the entire height of the armrest 111 itself.
  • In other embodiments, the bottom surface 121 of cup-holder 120 may be at the same level (vertically) relative to the lower edge of armrest 111. For example, unlike the demonstrative embodiment depicted in FIG. 12, in some other embodiments of the present invention, point 140M of bottom surface 121, may be at the same level (vertically) relative to point 140N of armrest 111, or may actually be higher (vertically) relative to point 140N of armrest 111.
  • Optionally, the bottom surface 121 of cup-holder 120 may have a hole 122 (or multiple holes), for example, to allow draining of rain (e.g., if the chair is placed in a lawn or yard or patio), or allow draining of liquids (e.g., if liquid is spilled from a cup placed in the cup-holder 120).
  • Chair 100 may be nestable or stackable, allowing space-efficient storage or stacking or nesting or piling of multiple chairs, one on top of the other, or one within the other.
  • Chair 100 may be formed of plastic, for example, of injection molding of one or more raw plastic material(s). In some embodiments, the entire chair 100, including its armrests 111-112 and cup-holder 120, may be injected in a single injection, as a mono-block plastic item, without requiring any post-injection assembly or mounting.
  • In some embodiments, chair 100 may be formed of other suitable materials, for example, metal, wood, or the like.
  • In some embodiments, chair 100 may comprise one cup-holder 120 embedded in and integrated in the right-side armrest 111. In other embodiments, chair 100 may comprise one cup-holder 120 embedded in and integrated in the left-side armrest 112. In other embodiments, chair 100 may comprise two cup-holders 120 embedded in and integrated in the right-side armrest 111 and the left-side armrest 112, respectively.
  • In a demonstrative embodiment, cup-holder 120 may have a diameter of approximately 65 or 70 or 75 or 80 or 85 or 90 or 95 or 100 millimeters; and/or may have a depth of approximately 25 or 30 or 35 or 40 or 45 or 50 millimeters. Other suitable dimensions may be used.
  • In some embodiments, cup-holder 120 may be implemented as a frustum-shaped or funnel-shaped structure or as a non-cylindrical structure, having slightly slanted side-walls (e.g., with slanting of 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 degrees relative to a vertical line), or having other structure which may be generally similar to a frustum or a funnel.
  • The present invention may include a method or process of producing chair 100. The method may include, for example, creating a suitable mold or template; and performing injection molding of raw plastic material(s) (e.g., a single injection molding) in order to fabricate the chair 100.
