  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • Turning now to the drawings, trousers with concealed pockets constructed utilizing pocket assemblies comprising a primary pocket and a secondary pocket in accordance with embodiments of the invention are illustrated. In many embodiments, a pair of trousers includes a front leg panel, a back leg panel, a waist band, and a pocket assembly having a primary pocket and a secondary pocket. The primary pocket is similar to a pocket found in conventional trousers and the secondary pocket serves as a concealed pocket that enables the storage of items, such as (but not limited to) mobile phones, separately from items contained within the primary pocket. In this way, the surface of a mobile phone contained within the secondary pocket can be protected from scratching by objects such as keys or coins contained within the primary pocket. In many embodiments, the secondary pocket is not located within the primary pocket. Instead, the secondary pocket hangs separately between the primary pocket and the front leg panel of the trousers. In several embodiments, the pocket assembly is constructed by stitching one edge of the secondary pocket opening to the front leg panel and another edge of the secondary pocket opening to the primary pocket so that the secondary pocket hangs between the interior of the front leg panel and the exterior of the primary pocket. Using this construction, no more than a portion of the opening of the primary pocket is secured to the front leg panel of the trousers. Instead, at least a portion of the opening of the primary pocket is secured to the front leg panel of the trousers via the secondary pocket. By attaching the secondary pocket to the front leg panel in this way, the presence of the secondary pocket is not clearly evident on the exterior of the trousers. In several embodiments, bar tacks can be utilized to increase the strength of the attachment of the secondary pocket and the primary pocket along the pocket edge of the front leg panel. In many embodiments, a variety of shapes and sizes of the primary and secondary pockets may be utilized in accordance with embodiments of the invention. Trousers with concealed pockets constructed utilizing pocket assemblies comprising a primary pocket and a secondary pocket in accordance with embodiments of the invention are further discussed below.
  • Trousers with Concealed Pockets
  • Typically, trousers include front pockets that allow access for storing and retrieving small items. A side view of a pair of trousers with concealed pockets utilizing a pocket assembly having primary and secondary pockets in accordance with an embodiment of the invention is illustrated in FIG. 1. The pair of trousers 100 includes a front leg panel 102 having a bottom edge 104 and a pocket edge 106. The front leg panel 102 is attached to a back leg panel 108 at a side seam 110. The front leg panel 102 and the back leg panel 108 create one leg of the pair of trousers. In many embodiments, the trousers may also include a waist band 112 that attaches to the front and back leg panels creating an opening for entering and exiting the trousers. In several embodiments, the pocket assembly 116 includes a primary pocket and a secondary pocket that is attached to the pocket edge 106 of the front leg panel 102 as further discussed below. Typically, the secondary pocket is concealed from view along the pocket edge 106 of front leg panel 102. In various embodiments, the trousers can also include an additional reinforcement panel 114 to minimize wear and tear to the pocket assembly and in particular to the primary pocket. The pocket assembly can be utilized on either or both sides of the trousers and on either the front or back pockets.

In various embodiments, the second edge 406 of the primary pocket can be attached to the pocket edge 415 of the front leg panel 414 as further discussed below. Also, the secondary pocket 408 can be attached along at least a portion of the second edge 406 of the primary pocket and along at least a portion of the pocket edge 415 of the front leg panel 414 as further discussed below. In some embodiments, the primary pocket can be attached to a side seam 416 by at least one stitch and a waist band 420 by at least one stitch. In many embodiments, a reinforcement panel 422 is attached to the primary pocket 402 to reduce wear and tear to the primary pocket. In addition, the primary pocket 402 can be reinforced with rivets 424, 426 to increase the strength of the attachment of the primary pocket along the pocket edge 415 of the front leg panel 414. The first edge 404 and second edge 406 (along with the secondary pocket 408 and the pocket edge 415 of the front leg panel 414) of the primary pocket 402 can be moved closer together or further apart to close or open the primary pocket 402, respectively.
  • A perspective view of the pocket assembly of FIG. 4A in which both the primary and secondary pockets are open in accordance with an embodiment of the invention is illustrated in FIG. 4B. The perspective view 450 illustrates a secondary pocket 408 comprising at least one panel of fabric stitched to form a pocket with an opening having a first edge 410 and a second edge 412.
