IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-JACKS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 201,459, dated March 19, 1878; application filed February 13, 1878.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SIMJEON SMITH, of Deersville, in the county of Harrison and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Wagon-Jack, of which the following is a specification:

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a sectional front View, and Fig. 2 a vertical transverse section, of my improved wagon-jack.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to an improved jack for lifting wagons and other objects for greasing the axles, 850.; and the invention consists of a fulcrumed cam-lever, connected, by pivotlinks, with a vertically-guided post.

The jack may be adjusted to different heights by means of holes in the standards, through which the fulcrum of the cam-lever is placed, and also by a hinged bottom-block.

Referring to the drawings, A represents the side standards of my improved wagon jack, which are rigidly connected at the bottom by a cross-piece,B, and at the top by strong cross straps to, of leather or other suitable material.

To the side of the bottom cross-piece B is connected, by a leather or other hinge, b, a supplementary block, B, that may be thrown sidewise of the cross-piece B, or placed below the same, according to the height of the axle or other object from the ground.

The side standards are provided with a series of holes, d, at both sides of the standards, and at different heights, but at equal diagonal distances from each other, these holes serving to insert the pivot-pin e or f through holes of a cam-lever, 0, according to the height or side to which the same is set for the object to be raised.

The cam-lever (J is pivoted eccentrically to its fulcrum-pin to two connecting-links, D, that are again pivoted at their upper ends to a lifting-post, E, which is guided in the standards by means of interior grooves g, into which the pivot-pin g of the links and post is extended, and also by the cross-straps of the standards. The upper end of post E is step-shaped, so as to bear on the axles or other objects.

When the post is raised to the required height by the. lever, the same is retained by the position of post, links and cam-lever being in one line, so as to lock each other. The greasing or other work is then accomplished, and the object lowered again by swinging the cam-lever down.

The jack is of simple construction, and readily adjusted to the objects to be lifted by the arrangement of side holes, that admit the convenient adjustment of the post to the full extent to which the object is to be lifted or pressed.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a wagon jack, the combination of grooved standards vA, fulcrumed lever 0, connecting pivot-links D, and guided lifting-post E, having side projecting pivot-pin, substan-' tially as'and for the purpose set forth.
