Abstract

The present invention relates to a clear or otherwise transparent sleeve or pouch that is configured to hold a picture, calendar, reminder, or other cutout. Specifically, the invention relates to sleeve that can be reversibly affixed to the palm rest of a laptop computer.

Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a clear or otherwise transparent sleeve or pouch that is configured to hold a picture, calendar, reminder, cheat sheet for program short-cut keys, or other item. Specifically, the invention relates to sleeve that can be reversibly affixed to the palm rest of a laptop computer.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Laptop users often look for ways to customize the look of the computer. Furthermore, laptop users frequently desire to attach a note, picture, or other information to their laptop, so that they may refer to it while they use their laptop. While many options exist for attaching an item to a laptop, there are few specifically adapted products. Additionally, many of the currently available options involve using adhesives that leave behind a sticky residue when the item is removed.
  • Therefore, there is a need in the art for a laptop sleeve apparatus that can reversibly attach to a surface of a laptop without leaving behind an adhesive residue or otherwise cause damage to the laptop and when attached to the laptop be used to store or otherwise secure items on a surface of the laptop. These and other features and advantages of the present invention will be explained and will become obvious to one skilled in the art through the summary of the invention that follows.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention provides a laptop sleeve that is configured to reversibly attach to the palm rest of a laptop computer and hold a picture, reminder, or other item. In certain embodiments, the laptop sleeve may be reusable or repositionable. In other embodiments, the laptop sleeve may be configured to attach to other areas of a laptop computer other than the palm rest area.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, laptop sleeve apparatus, comprising: one or more storage sleeves, including one or more front walls and a rear wall, wherein the one or more front walls and the rear wall are sealed on three edges to form the one or more storage sleeves, wherein the rear wall further comprises an adhesive portion on the outer side of the rear wall; and a tracing template, wherein the tracing template is of the same dimensions as the interior of the one or more storage sleeves.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the one or more storage sleeves are formed by welding the one or more front walls and the rear wall along three edges to form a pocket with an opening on one end.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the one or more storage sleeves are formed by affixing a premade storage sleeve to the rear wall.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the storage sleeve is comprised of two sheets of material.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the storage sleeve is comprised of one sheet of material.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the storage sleeve is comprised of a clear plastic.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a clear or otherwise transparent sleeve or pouch that is configured to hold a picture, calendar, reminder, or other cutout. Specifically, the invention relates to sleeve that can be reversibly affixed to the palm rest of a laptop computer.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the laptop sleeve apparatus is configured as a pocket or pouch that reversibly attaches to the palm rest of a laptop computer in order to hold a note, picture, or other similar item. In a preferred embodiment, the laptop sleeve apparatus is clear or otherwise transparent and includes an adhesive that allows the laptop sleeve apparatus to be secured to a surface of the laptop. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that the laptop sleeve apparatus could be useful in a number of configurations, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any configuration.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a laptop sleeve apparatus may have a supplemental function as a protective cover for the laptop. In a preferred embodiment, the laptop sleeve apparatus may cover exposed portions of the laptop, including, but not limited to, the palm rest and the track pad. In the preferred embodiment, the laptop sleeve will protect the laptop from the oils produced by the skin, as well as dust and other dirt and grime that can collect on and cause damage to the surfaces of the laptop. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that a laptop sleeve apparatus would offer many protective advantages, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such protective advantage.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a laptop sleeve apparatus is comprised of a storage sleeve and a tracing template. In alternate embodiments, the laptop sleeve apparatus may comprise fewer or additional components. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that a laptop sleeve apparatus could be configured with a variety of components and embodiment of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such component.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the laptop sleeve apparatus includes a storage sleeve. In a preferred embodiment, the storage sleeve is comprised of a separate rectangular front wall and a rectangular rear wall. In the preferred embodiment, the front wall is welded to the rear wall at three edges in order to form a pocket or pouch that is open at one side. In alternate embodiments, the storage sleeve is formed by sealing the front wall with the rear wall at three edges through any suitable process. In a second alternate embodiment, the storage sleeve is comprised of a single rectangular piece of material. In the second alternate embodiment, the single piece of material is folded in half at one edge to from a front and rear wall. The front and rear wall are then sealed on two of the remaining edges in order to form a pocket or pouch that is open at one side, with the folded edge and two sealed edges forming the closed sides of the storage sleeve. One of ordinary skill in the art would realize that a storage sleeve could be formed with a variety of methods and shapes, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such method or shape.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the storage sleeve is comprised of a front wall. In a preferred embodiment, the front wall is largely rectangular in shape. The preferred embodiment may also include a semi-circular cutout at one end of the front wall. In a preferred embodiment, the semi-circular cutout will be located on the front wall at the opening to the storage sleeve. The cutout would allow for easier removal of the item that is being held inside the storage sleeve. One or ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that the front wall could be fabricated in any number of configurations, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such configuration.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the storage sleeve is comprised of a rear wall. In a preferred embodiment, the rear wall is a die cut piece of material of any variety of shapes. In the preferred embodiment, the rear wall is die cut to specifically fit a particular model of laptop. By using a die cut to create the shape of the rear wall, the rear wall can be customized to take into account a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the size of the laptop, the size of the palm rest, a cutout for a track pad, a cutout for a keyboard, and a cutout for speakers. The preferred embodiment of the rear wall further includes an adhesive portion on the side of the rear wall that will make contact with the laptop. The adhesive portion is used to secure the laptop sleeve apparatus to a surface. In an alternate embodiment, the rear wall is of a generic shape and configured to fit any typical laptop. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that the rear wall could be designed in a number of configurations, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such configuration.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the rear wall is a die cut piece of material. Using a die cut piece of material for the rear wall is advantageous for numerous reasons, mainly that the rear wall can be customized to perfectly fit any number of computer models. Additionally, die cutting the rear wall allows for certain features of a laptop computer to be accounted for in the design of the rear wall, including, but not limited to, cutouts for keyboards, track pads, and speakers. Incorporating cutouts and other specific features into the rear wall has additional advantages beyond a customized fit. As an illustrative example, a rear wall of a customized size and with custom cutouts for a particular model of laptop is more easily aligned and affixed to the surface of the laptop. This is because the customized nature of the die cut rear wall allows a user to use features and marks of the laptop as an alignment means to more accurately position the rear wall on the laptop. This is opposed to a generic laptop sleeve apparatus which is more difficult to align neatly as it does not have a customized or particular fit.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the rear wall is configured with cutouts for various features of the laptop. In a preferred embodiment, the rear wall of the laptop is configured with a cutout for a track pad. In the preferred embodiment, the cutout for the track pad creates a laptop sleeve apparatus where two storage sleeves are joined with a linking element. The linking element is formed in the die cutting process from material that remains after the cutout is created. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate there are numerous possibly configurations for a die cut rear wall of a laptop sleeve apparatus, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such configuration.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the laptop sleeve apparatus includes one or more storage sleeves. In a preferred embodiment, the laptop sleeve apparatus includes two or more storage sleeves. In the preferred embodiment, the laptop sleeve apparatus is comprised of a rear wall that is die cut to cut fit the dimensions a palm rest of a laptop computer, including a cut out for the track pad of a laptop. The preferred embodiment of the laptop sleeve apparatus is further comprised of one front wall for each storage sleeve, with each front wall being welded with the rear wall at three edges in order to form a pocket or pouch that is open at one side. In alternate embodiments, the laptop sleeve apparatus may be die cut to fit alternate areas of a laptop computer, including around the keyboard. In certain embodiments, the laptop sleeve apparatus may be configured without a track pad cutout and instead be configured with a protective cover for the track pad of the laptop. In the alternate embodiment, the rear wall of the laptop sleeve apparatus would be die cut to fit over both the palm rest area and the track pad of the laptop. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that there are numerous suitable configurations for a laptop sleeve apparatus, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such configuration.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the laptop sleeve apparatus is comprised of one or more storage sleeves. In preferred embodiment, a storage sleeve is formed by welding or otherwise sealing a rectangular front wall with a die cut rear wall along three edges in order to form a pocket or pouch that is open at one end. In the preferred embodiment, the die cut rear wall is customized to precisely fit a specific model of laptop, including cutouts for certain functional features of the laptop. In an alternate embodiment, a premade storage sleeve is affixed to the die cut rear wall. In the alternate embodiment, the premade storage sleeve is comprised of a rectangular front and rectangular rear wall that are welded or otherwise sealed along three edges in order to form the premade storage sleeve. The rear wall of the premade storage sleeve is then affixed to the die cut rear wall. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that there are numerous configurations and methods for assembling a laptop sleeve apparatus, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with and such configuration or assembly method.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the laptop sleeve apparatus is comprised of two or more storage sleeves. In a preferred embodiment, the storage sleeves are formed by sealing a front wall and a rear wall along three edges to form an opening at one end. In the preferred embodiment, the rear wall is a die cut to perfectly fit a particular model of laptop and one or more front walls are fused to the rear wall. In an alternate embodiment, the storage sleeve is formed from a single front wall and a single rear wall. In the alternate embodiment, the storage sleeve is formed by fusing the front wall and rear wall at three sides to form an opening on the forth side. The entire storage sleeve is then attached to a die cut cover that is customized to fit a particular model of laptop.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the storage sleeve is made of a clear or otherwise transparent material. In a preferred embodiment, the storage sleeve is made from a clear or transparent polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic. In alternate embodiments, the storage sleeve is made from any suitable transparent material. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that the storage sleeve could be configured from many different materials, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such material.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the rear wall of the laptop sleeve apparatus is configured as a solid piece of material, without any cutouts for additional components of the laptop. In a preferred embodiment, the rear wall is configured to additionally function as a protective cover for the track pad. In the preferred embodiment, the rear wall is made from a plastic material, similar to that of a smartphone screen cover, which allows for user inputs to be sensed and tracked through the material covering the track pad. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that there are many materials that could be used for a rear wall with an integrated track pad protector, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such material.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the storage sleeve is rectangular in shape. In a preferred embodiment, the storage sleeve is approximately three inches wide by five inches long. In alternate embodiments, the storage sleeve is sized to fit the dimensions of the palm rest of a laptop computer. In embodiments with two or more storage sleeves, each sleeve may be of a different size and vary in relation to the specific model of laptop. On of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that the storage sleeve could be configured in many shapes and sizes, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such shape or size of storage sleeve.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the storage sleeve of the laptop sleeve apparatus is configured with an opening at one end. In a preferred embodiment, the opening of the storage sleeve is configured to open on a side edge. In alternate embodiments, the opening of the storage sleeve is configured to open on the top edge or the bottom edge. In a preferred embodiment of the laptop sleeve apparatus with two storage sleeves, the storage sleeves are both configured to open on the outside edges of the laptop sleeve apparatus. In the preferred embodiment, the user will insert and remove items at or near the side edges of the body of the laptop. In an alternate embodiment of the laptop sleeve apparatus with two storage sleeves, the storage sleeves are both configured to open at the side of the storage sleeve towards the center of the laptop sleeve apparatus. In further alternate embodiments of the laptop sleeve apparatus with two storage sleeves, the storage sleeves may be configured to open at the top or bottom edge of the laptop sleeve apparatus. In such embodiments, items would be inserted and removed near the keyboard of the laptop or at the bottom edge of the body of the laptop, respectively. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that an opening could be configured on any edge, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for creating an opening on any such edge.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the laptop sleeve apparatus has two storage sleeves. In a preferred embodiment, both of the storage sleeves are open on corresponding edges. As an illustrative example, both of the storage sleeves will open either on the side edge, top edge, bottom edge, or towards the middle of the laptop sleeve apparatus. In an alternate embodiment, the storage sleeves may open on non-corresponding edges. As an illustrative example, one storage sleeve may open on the top edge of the laptop sleeve apparatus and the other on a side edge of the laptop sleeve apparatus. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that the opening for the storage sleeves could have a variety of arrangements, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such arrangement.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the laptop storage apparatus is made of a thin plastic material. In a preferred embodiment, the storage is sleeve is thin enough to allow a laptop to be closed when the laptop storage apparatus is affixed to the palm rest of the laptop. In the preferred embodiment, the laptop storage apparatus has a thickness range of 2-10 mils (0.002-0.010 inches). One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that the laptop storage apparatus could be configured in a variety of thicknesses, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such thickness.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the laptop storage apparatus includes an attachment means. In a preferred embodiment, the attachment means is located on the section of the rear wall that forms an outer portion of the laptop storage apparatus. In the preferred embodiment, the attachment means is an adhesive portion, coving a portion of the rear wall and is comprised of any suitable adhesive material that is non-permanent and leaves no residue on removal. The preferred embodiment of the adhesive portion is a “peel and stick” type adhesive material whereby a cover, similar to those found on a sticker, is removed from the adhesive portion prior to placing the laptop storage apparatus in the desired location. In an alternate embodiment, the adhesive portion is a permanent adhesive material. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that there are a number of suitable adhesive materials that could be used for the adhesive portion, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such adhesive materials.
  • Alternative attachment means for use with embodiments of the present invention include magnets, suction devices, adhesive gels, glues, epoxies and fasteners (e.g., hook and loop fasteners). One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that there are numerous types of attachment means that could be utilized with embodiments of the present invention, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any appropriate attachment means.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the laptop sleeve apparatus includes a tracing template. In a preferred embodiment, the tracing template is configured to be the same size as the inside of the storage sleeve. The tracing template may be used to trace a pattern on an item so that there is a line that can be followed when the item is cut or otherwise trimmed down to an appropriate size to fit inside of the storage sleeve. Alternatively, the tracing template may be used to cut around directly, without first applying a line or other mark on the item. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that there are numerous suitable configurations and uses for a tracing template, and embodiments of the current invention are contemplated for use with any such configuration or use.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the tracing template is made from a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic. The tracing template may be a clear, transparent, or an opaque or solidly colored plastic material or any combination thereof. In the preferred embodiment, the tracing template is clear or transparent so that a user can accurately align and see what portions of the item will remain after the item is trimmed down. The tracing template may further include additional features, such as a grid or measurement lines to more accurately measure and trace oversized items. One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that the tracing template could be configured from many different materials and with a number of useful features, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such material or useful feature.
  • According to an embodiment of the present invention, the tracing template is made of a thin plastic material. In a preferred embodiment, the tracing template has a thickness range of 2-10 mils (0.002-0.010 inches). One of ordinary skill in the art would appreciate that the tracing template could be configured in a variety of thicknesses, and embodiments of the present invention are contemplated for use with any such thickness.
  • Exemplary Embodiments
  • Turning now to FIG. 1, a perspective view of a laptop sleeve apparatus 100, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. In a preferred embodiment, the laptop sleeve apparatus 100 is comprised of one or more storage sleeves 101, an opening 102, a track pad cut out 103, a finger cutout 104, a front wall 106, and a rear wall 108. The storage sleeve 101 is created by sealing a front wall 106 and the rear wall 108 on three edges to create an opening 102.
  • Turning now to FIG. 2, a top view of a laptop sleeve apparatus 100, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. In a preferred embodiment, the laptop sleeve apparatus 100 is comprised of one or more storage sleeves 101, an opening 102, a track pad cut out 103, a finger cutout 104, a front wall 106, and a rear wall 108. The storage sleeve 101 is created by sealing a front wall 106 and the rear wall 108 on three edges to create an opening 102.
  • Turning now to FIG. 3, an exploded view of a laptop sleeve apparatus 100, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. In this view, the various components of a preferred embodiment of the present invention are shown in a dissembled manner. In a preferred embodiment, the laptop sleeve apparatus 100 is assembled from a rear wall 108, which has been die cut to fit a particular model of laptop. The rear wall 108 may further include a track pad cutout 103 that is added through the die cutting process and is likewise customized to a particular model of laptop. In the preferred embodiment of the laptop sleeve apparatus 100 there are two storage sleeves 101. To form a storage sleeve 101, a front wall 106 is welded to the rear wall 108 along three edges to form pocket with an opening 102 at one end. The front wall 106 may further include a finger cutout 104 to allow a user to easily insert and remove items from the storage sleeve 101.
  • Turning now to FIG. 4, a perspective view of a laptop sleeve apparatus 100 with an adhesive protective cover 109. In a preferred embodiment, the laptop sleeve apparatus 100 includes an adhesive portion located on the outer side of the rear wall 108. The adhesive protective cover 109 serves to protect the adhesive portion of the laptop sleeve apparatus 100 and is removed prior to placing the laptop sleeve apparatus 100 on the palm rest area of a laptop. The adhesive protective cover 109 maybe be configured to include a cutout for the track pad cutout 103.
  • Turning now to FIG. 5, a perspective view of a laptop sleeve apparatus, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. In a preferred embodiment, the storage sleeve 101, is comprised of an opening 102, a finger cutout 104, a front wall 106, and a rear wall 108. The storage sleeve 101 is created by sealing the front wall 106 and the rear wall 108 on three edges to create an opening 102.
  • Turning now to FIG. 6, a top view of a laptop sleeve apparatus, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. In a preferred embodiment, the storage sleeve 101, is comprised of an opening 102, a finger cutout 104, a front wall 106, and a rear wall 108. The storage sleeve 101 is created by sealing the front wall 106 and the rear wall 108 on three edges to create an opening 102.
  • Turning now to FIG. 7, an illustrative example of a storage sleeve of a laptop sleeve apparatus configured from two pieces of material, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. In a preferred embodiment, the storage sleeve 101 is comprised of a front wall 106 and a rear wall 108. The storage sleeve is created by sealing the storage sleeve 101 along three edges of the front wall 106 and rear wall 108 and leaving the fourth edge unsealed to create an opening 102.
  • Turning now to FIG. 8, an illustrative example of a storage sleeve of a laptop sleeve apparatus configured from one piece of material, in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention. In an alternate embodiment, the storage sleeve 101 is comprised of a single sheet of material that is folded over on one edge to form a front wall 106 and a rear wall 108. The storage sleeve is created by sealing the storage sleeve 101 along two edges of the front wall 106 and rear wall 108. The fold in the material creates a third sealed edge, leaving the fourth edge unsealed to create an opening 102.
  • Turning now to FIG. 9, an illustrative example of a laptop sleeve apparatus in use. In a preferred embodiment, a picture, calendar, chart, reminder, cheat sheet for program short-cut keys, or other item are inserted into the storage sleeve 101 through an opening 102. Once the item is place inside the storage sleeve 101 the item is protected and held firmly in place. To secure the laptop sleeve apparatus 100 to a surface, the outer side of the rear wall 108 includes an adhesive portion that allows the laptop sleeve apparatus 100 to be reversibly affixed to a surface. To remove the item from the storage sleeve 101, the item should be grasped using the finger cutout 104 to pull the item out from the storage sleeve 101.
  • Turning now to FIG. 10, an illustrative example of a tracing template of a laptop sleeve apparatus. In a preferred embodiment, a tracing template 110 is used to properly size items that are too large to fit inside of the storage sleeve. To reduce the oversized item to the correct size, there are two main options. The first option is to place the tracing template 110 over the item as desired and trace around the tracing template to create a line that can be followed with a cutting tool. An alternative option is to place the tracing template 110 over the item as desired, but then use a cutting tool to cut directly around the tracing template 110 to trim the item to the desired size.
  • While multiple embodiments are disclosed, still other embodiments of the present invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description. The invention is capable of myriad modifications in various obvious aspects, all without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention. Accordingly, the drawings and descriptions are to be regarded as illustrative in nature and not restrictive.

Claims (22)

1. A laptop sleeve apparatus, comprising:
one or more front walls; and
and a rear wall, comprising
a front side that is adapted to receive said one or more front walls, wherein said one or more front walls and said front side of said rear wall are sealed on three edges to form one or more storage sleeves,
a rear side that is adapted to contact a surface of a laptop, wherein said rear side of said rear wall is configured with an attachment means,
and one or more laptop component cutouts that allow for unimpeded operation of one or more input or output features of said laptop.
2. The laptop sleeve apparatus of claim 1, wherein said one or more storage sleeves are formed by welding said one or more front walls and said rear wall along three edges to form a pocket with an opening on one end.
3. The laptop sleeve apparatus of claim 1, wherein said one or more storage sleeves are formed by affixing a premade storage sleeve to said rear wall.

11. The laptop sleeve apparatus of claim 9, wherein said one or more laptop component cutouts are selected from a group of laptop component cutouts comprising track pad cutouts, keyboard cutouts, and speaker cutouts, and human interface elements.
12. The laptop sleeve apparatus of claim 11, wherein said one or more laptop component cutouts are further configured as an alignment means.
13. The laptop sleeve apparatus of claim 9, wherein said rear wall is further comprised of one or more linking elements configured to connect said one or more storage sleeves.
14. The laptop sleeve apparatus of claim 1, wherein said rear wall is further configured with a track pad protector.
15. The laptop sleeve apparatus of claim 1, wherein said attachment means is a non-permanent adhesive.

20. The laptop sleeve apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a tracing template that is of the same dimensions as the interior of said one or more storage sleeves, wherein said tracing template is further configured with measurement marks.
21. The laptop sleeve apparatus of claim 1, wherein said one or more laptop component cutouts are entirely surrounded by a portion of said rear wall.
22. The laptop sleeve apparatus of claim 1, wherein said one or more input or output features are comprised of track pads, keyboards, speakers, and human interface elements.
