Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 61/769,572, filed Feb. 26, 2013, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to slide and toss game board and, more particularly, to a game that includes game pieces tossed and slid to score on the opposite end of the game board.
  • Currently, most washer toss and bean bag toss games are for outdoor use. The washer and bean bag games are generally played using two game boards placed at least 20 ft apart and thereby the game must be played outdoors. The games are made for when the weather is nice. However, during inclement weather, players may not be able to play the games anymore.
  • As can be seen, there is a need for a washer and bean bag toss game for the indoors.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In one aspect of the present invention, a slide and toss game comprises: a game board comprising a first scoring end, a second scoring end, and a body portion in between the first scoring end and the second scoring end, wherein the body portion comprises a width larger than the width of the first scoring end and the second scoring end, wherein the first scoring end comprises a first goal opening, and the second scoring end comprises a second goal opening; and at least one scoring member sized to fit within each of the first goal opening and the second goal opening.
  • These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of the present invention;
  • FIG. 2 is a bottom perspective view showing the foldability of the present invention;
  • FIG. 3 is a top perspective view of an alternate embodiment of the present invention; and
  • FIG. 4 is a bottom perspective view of a catch tray of the present invention.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
  • The present invention includes a slide and toss game. The game of the present invention benefits children and adults alike including, but not limited to social skills, fine and gross motor skills development/enhancement, exercise, and positive leisure involvement. The present invention may be played indoor or outdoor unlike many washer tossing or bean bag toss games. The present invention may include a single game board designed for scoring on two ends. The washers may be made of wood and may be very light weight making it easier for children and women to toss and slide to the opposite end of the board for a score.
  • Referring to FIGS. 1 through 4, the present invention includes a slide and toss game 10. The slide and toss game 10 includes a game board 12. The game board 12 includes a first scoring end 46, a second scoring end 46, and a body portion 48 in between the first scoring end 46 and the second scoring end 46. In certain embodiments, the body portion 48 comprises a width w larger than the width w of the first scoring end 46 and the second scoring end 46. The first scoring end 46 may include a first goal opening 14, and the second scoring 46 end may include a second goal opening 14. The present invention may further include at least one scoring member 20 sized to fit within each of the first goal opening 14 and the second goal opening 14.
  • In certain embodiments, the connection between the body portion 48 and the first scoring end 46 and the connection between the body portion 48 and the second scoring end 46 may be a tapered portion. In certain embodiments, the scoring ends 46 may each be about 12″ wide by about 15½″ in length. The goal openings 14 may be about 2⅝″ hole and may be centered 3″ from each end of the first and second scoring ends 46. In certain embodiments, the scoring ends 46 are separated from the rest of the game board 10 by a scoring line 42. In certain of the game board or about 11½″ from each scoring line 42 is the foul line 44. The score line 42 may separate the tapered portion and the scoring ends 46.
  • In certain embodiments, the at least one scoring member 20 may include a plurality of cylinders, such as washers. In certain embodiments, the scoring members 20 may be tossed/ slid to rest safely in the scoring ends 46 for one point or in the goal openings 14 for three points. If the scoring member 20 slides off of the scoring ends 46, zero points are awarded for that particular toss or slide. When playing using the tossing method the scoring members 20 may land on the body 48 and then slide toward the opposite scoring end 46. The scoring members 20 may pass the scoring line 18 and rest in the scoring end 46 to gain points, as mentioned above. When playing the seated or standing sliding method, the scoring members 20 may land on the board before it reaches the foul line 44 when being slid towards the opposite scoring end 46. If there is a foul during either method being played the player loses the opportunity to score with that particular scoring member 20. However, the player may be able to continue to play with any remaining scoring members 20 for that round.
  • In certain embodiments, the present invention may include a plurality of legs 18 to support the game board 12 on a surface. In certain embodiments, the game board 12 may include increased portability. For example, the game board 12 may include a first half and a second half. The first half and the second half may be pivotally connected by a hinge 16 so that the game board 12 may be folded and transported. Further, the legs 18 may be connected to an underside of the game board 12 by pivots 24 so that the legs 18 may be folded for transport.
  • In certain embodiments, the game board 12 of the present invention may be supported by a table top 32. The game board 12 may be attached to the table top 32 and may be elevated above the table top 32 by legs 38. A catch 40, such as a vinyl square, may be attached to the game board 12 underneath the goal openings 14. The present invention may further include a first catch tray 34 and a second catch tray 34. The first and second catch tray 34 may include sidewalls attached to and protruding from the table top 32. The sidewalls may at least partially surround the first and second scoring ends 46. The sidewalls may protrude above the scoring ends 46 so that the scoring members 20 may be caught when the players overshoot the scoring ends 46.
  • The table top 32 may be positioned and attached to the game board 12, which may provide a way for attaching the catch trays 34. The catch trays 34 may be about 3 inches tall by about 18 inches long and may include three sidewalls for washers that slide off the end of the scoring areas on each end. The catch trays 34 may also be used to form the bottom of the catch tray system so that the scoring members 20 may land when they go off the playing area and thereby keeps the scoring members 20 from falling to the floor.
  • The game may be played from each end using up to about four players with partners on opposite ends tossing/sliding against their opponents. The players may position themselves seated or standing at the same end of the game board if playing one on one or with partners at opposite ends of each other if playing two on two. Seated or standing at the ends of the game board they will toss or slide the washers to the opposite end scoring area of the game board for a score of 1 point if the washer lands in the 15½ inch playing area or a score of 3 points if the washer goes in the 2⅝ inch hole in the scoring area. They will alternate turns until all of the washers are used for that round. The player or team of partners that score the highest for that round tosses first the next round. The first player(s) to accumulate a score of 23 may win the match. The tapered design may give the players the added sense that the field of play is narrowing and creates a sense of pressure when sliding to the scoring area. In certain embodiments, the game board may have a compartment attached underneath the game board to allow speakers and components that are Bluetooth compatible for use of Android® phones and other wireless equipment. The game board may further include color graphics on the sliding area. The game may also be produced as an electronic game.
  • It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
