Abstract

A self-lighting smoking device comprising an elongated smoke canal, where the elongated smoke canal includes a mouthpiece; a bowl at an opposite end of the elongated smoke canal from the mouthpiece, where the bowl includes an inner cavity to receive a smoking product; a lighter attached to the elongated smoke canal of the pipe, where the lighter is positioned by the bowl; and an actuator attached to the lighter, where the actuator ignites a flame to light the smoking product within the inner cavity of the bowl.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a smoking device that includes a means to light the device built into the device itself.
2. Description of Related Art
Various types of smoking devices have been used the world over for many years. More recently smoking products like medical cannabis are being used for medicinal purposes to alleviate patients' nausea, pain, stimulate hunger and relieve eye pressure. Due to the medicinal purposes of the smoking products, the use of smoking device continues to grow. The most popular devices are pipes, including water pipes or spoon-style pipes. These devices typically receive the tobacco or cannabis in a receiving bowl at an opposite end from a mouthpiece. The smoking product is then ignited with a lighter to burn allowing the user to inhale the resulting smoke. Many times the user must be very dexterous or nimble with their hands to hold the pipe while simultaneously igniting the lighter. For many patients this task may be laborious or even impossible if their hands are unable to grip both the pipe and the lighter at the same time.
Over the years, some devices have been developed to assist smokers when lighting their pipes. For example, U.S. Pat. No. 4,146,042 by Russell J. Malorana discloses a smoking pipe and lighter system where a lighter device is positioned within the end of a pipe. The lighter is removable from the pipe to keep the lighter near the pipe as needed by the user. Alternatively, U.S. Pat. No. 4,276,892 by Joseph Iaquinta discloses a smoking device with self contained lighting apparatus wherein a lighter is within the bowl of the apparatus to ignite the inner contents of the bowl.
While these device combine a lighter with a smoking device, they are bulky and awkward when held. It would be desirable in the art to provide a smoking device that incorporates a lighter with a pipe. It would also be beneficial in the art to provide a pipe and lighter combination that is small and compact for easy portability.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the prior art, the general purpose of the present invention is to provide a self-lighting smoking device, configured to include all of the advantages of the prior art, and to overcome the drawbacks inherent therein.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a pipe incorporated with a lighter to keep a lighter readily available for a user.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a pipe with a lighter, where the pipe is a spoon-type pipe, a forward facing pipe or a water pipe.
To achieve the above objects, in an aspect of the present invention, a self-lighting smoking device is described comprising an elongated smoke canal, where the elongated smoke canal includes a mouthpiece; a bowl at an opposite end of the elongated smoke canal from the mouthpiece, where the bowl includes an inner cavity to receive a smoking product; a lighter attached to the elongated smoke canal of the pipe, where the lighter is positioned by the bowl;
and an actuator attached to the lighter, where the actuator ignites a flame to light the smoking product within the inner cavity of the bowl.
These together with other aspects of the present invention, along with the various features of novelty that characterize the present invention, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed hereto and form a part of this present invention. For a better understanding of the present invention, its operating advantages, and the specific objects attained by its uses, reference should be made to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which there are illustrated exemplary embodiments of the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The present invention relates to a smoking device that includes a means to light the device built into the device itself. The self-lighting smoking device simplifies the use of smoking pipes by providing a lighter incorporated into the pipe. The self-lighting smoking device comprises a pipe or water pipe, with a bowl affixed to an elongated smoke canal. A replaceable lighter is attached to the canal to provide a readily available lighting means. Once the smoking product has been inserted into the bowl, an actuator on the lighter is pressed to ignite a flame within the bowl, whereby then the resulting smoke may be inhaled through the pipe's mouthpiece.
Turning now descriptively to the drawings, referring to FIG. 1, a perspective view of a self-lighting smoking device 100 is shown in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The self-lighting smoking device 100 is essentially a smoking pipe, or a spoon style pipe, like the ones used to smoke loose leaf tobacco, medicinal herbs, marijuana, medical cannabis and the like. The self-lighting smoking device 100 includes an elongated smoke canal 102 with a mouthpiece 104 at one end. The canal 102 is a hollow tube attached to a bowl 106 attached at an opposing end from the mouthpiece 104. The mouthpiece 104 may be rounded for a comfortable feel.
The bowl 106 is permanently attached to the canal 102. During use, the smoking product is placed within an inner cavity 108 of the bowl 106. The inner cavity 108 faces upwards to receive the smoking product from above like a spoon. The canal 102 and the bowl 106 of the self-lighting smoking device 100 may be made from blown glass, plastic, metal, wood or a combination of these materials.
Attached to the canal 102 at a portion by the bowl 106 is a lighter 110. The lighter 110 may be a replaceable butane fuel lighter, where fuel container within the lighter 110 may be refilled with fuel as necessary. Alternatively, the lighter 110 may be replaceable to allow for exchange to a new lighter when the fuel container within the lighter empties. Positioned along the lighter 110 is an actuator 112. The actuator 112 ignites a flame 114 within the inner cavity of the bowl 106 to burn the smoking product. The actuator 112 may be positioned next to the bowl 106 on the lighter 110. Alternatively the actuator 112 may be positioned closer to the mouthpiece 104 to prevent the user's fingers from being burned by avoiding coming into contact with a hot bowl 106. During use, the user presses the actuator 112 to allow the self-lighting smoking device 100 to both contain the smoking product and to ignite it.
Referring now to FIG. 2, a perspective view of a forward facing, self-lighting smoking device 200 is shown in accordance with an alternative embodiment of the present invention. The forward facing, self-lighting smoking device 200 is similar to the first embodiment of the invention, with the elongated smoke canal 202, mouthpiece 204, lighter 210 and actuator 212, but the bowl 206 is positioned with the inner cavity facing forward. The bowl 206 is attached to the canal 202 at a curve 208 at an innermost portion of the bowl 206. The smoking product rests within the curve 208 during use.
At a front end of the lighter 210, near the bowl 206, is a fuel tube 214. The fuel tube 214 curves around the bowl 206 to position a burner 216 in front of the inner cavity of the bowl 206.
When the actuator 212 is pressed the fuel travels through the fuel tube 214 where then a flame 218 is ignited at the burner 216. The fuel tube 214 positions the flame 218 directly in front of the bowl 206 to allow the smoking product to burn during inhalation at the mouthpiece 204.
Referring to FIG. 3, a perspective view of a self-lighting water pipe 300 is shown in accordance with a third embodiment of the present invention. The self-lighting water pipe 300 embodies a standard water pipe or bong, and includes a bowl 304 to receive water during use, and a neck 302. At a top portion of the neck 302 is a mouthpiece 306. The smoke within the bowl 304 travels up through the neck 302 and the mouthpiece 306 during use. Within the bowl 304 is a water proof lighter 312. An actuator 310 is attached to the lighter 312, and positioned on the outside of the bowl 304.
The self-lighting smoking device provides smokers with a compact, quality smoking pipe that includes its own ignition source. With the self-lighting smoking device smoking is simplified by having an all-in-one tool, eliminating the need for a separate pipe and lighter for the user.
The foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the present invention have been presented for purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the invention to the precise forms disclosed, and obviously many modifications and variations are possible in light of the above teaching. The exemplary embodiment was chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the invention and its practical application, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.

Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A self-lighting smoking device comprising:

an elongated smoke canal, where the elongated smoke canal includes a mouthpiece at an end;

a bowl at an opposite end of the elongated smoke canal from the mouthpiece, where the bowl includes an inner cavity to receive a smoking product;

a lighter attached to the elongated smoke canal of the pipe, where the lighter is positioned by the bowl; and

an actuator attached to the lighter, where the actuator ignites a flame to light the smoking product within the inner cavity of the bowl.

2. The self-lighting smoking device according to claim 1, where the inner cavity of the bowl faces upward to receive the smoking product from above.

3. The self-lighting smoking device according to claim 1, where the inner cavity of the bowl faces forward to create a forward facing bowl, and where the bowl attaches to the elongated smoke canal at an innermost curve within the inner cavity.

4. The self-lighting smoking device according to claim 3, where the lighter includes a fuel tube to position a burner in front of the forward facing bowl.

5. The self-lighting smoking device according to claim 4, where the burner ignites a flame in front of the bowl.

6. The self-lighting smoking device according to claim 1, where the actuator is positioned along the lighter by the bowl.

7. The self-lighting smoking device according to claim 1, where the actuator is positioned along the lighter towards the mouthpiece.

8. The self-lighting smoking device according to claim 1, where the elongated smoke canal and the bowl are made from one of at least glass, metal, wood and plastic.

9. The self-lighting smoking device according to claim 1, where the lighter is removable.

10. The self-lighting smoking device according to claim 1, where the lighter includes a refillable fuel container.

11. The self-lighting smoking device according to claim 1, where the device is embodied as a water pipe.
