Description
- This application claims priority to co-pending U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61/547 096, filed Oct. 14, 2011, the disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety.
- The present invention relates to a modular exterior building.
- Heretofore, exterior buildings (e.g., sheds) have been built to be positioned near homes and businesses. The exterior buildings have been difficult to build and/or are shipped in large pre-assembled states.
- In view of the above, one object of the invention is to provide an exterior building that is easy to ship and assemble.
- In this regard, the present invention includes providing a modular exterior building assembly comprising a plurality of non-insulated panels including at least one front wall panel, at least one rear wall panel, at least two side wall panels and at least one roof panel. Each of the non-insulated panels include beams having rotating hooks and/or pins therein. The hooks are configured to be rotated to engage the pins in adjacent beams of adjacent non-insulated panels to connect the non-insulated panels together to form the modular exterior building.
- Another aspect of the present invention is to provide a modular exterior building comprising a plurality of non-insulated panels including at least one front wall panel, at least one rear wall panel, at least two side wall panels and at least one roof panel. Each of the non-insulated panels include beams having rotating hooks and/or pins therein. The hooks engage pins in adjacent beams of adjacent non-insulated panels to connect the non-insulated panels together to form the modular exterior building, with the modular exterior building having side walls and an angled roof.
- Yet another aspect of the present invention is to provide a method of forming a modular exterior building comprising providing a plurality of non-insulated panels including at least one front wall panel, at least one rear wall panel, at least two side wall panels and at least one roof panel. The method further includes providing each of the non-insulated panels with beams having rotating hooks and/or pins therein. The method also includes positioning each of the non-insulated panels adjacent to at least one other of the non-insulated panels and rotating the hooks to thereby engage the hooks with pins in adjacent beams of adjacent non-insulated panels to connect the non-insulated panels together to form the modular exterior building.

FIG. 1 . However, it is to be understood that the invention may assume various alternative orientations, except where expressly specified to the contrary. It is also to be understood that the specific devices and processes illustrated in the attached drawings, and described in the following specification, are simply exemplary embodiments of the inventive concepts defined herein. Hence, specific dimensions and other physical characteristics relating to the embodiments disclosed herein are not to be considered as limiting, unless expressly stated otherwise. - The reference number 10 (
FIG. 1A ) generally designates a modular exterior building embodying the present invention. In the illustrated example, the modularexterior building 10 includes a plurality ofnon-insulated panels 11 formingside walls 13 and aroof 15. Theroof 15 is angled and/or includes exterior roofing materials (e.g., shingles or a metal (e.g., aluminum) panel 17) thereon. In the illustrated example, thenon-insulated panels 11 include aleft floor panel 12 a, aright floor panel 12 b, a leftrear panel 14 a, a rightrear panel 14 b,first side panels 16,second side panels 18, a leftfront panel 20 a, a rightfront panel 20 b, a rear toptriangular panel 22 a, a front toptriangular panel 22 b, aleft roof panel 24 a and aright roof panel 24 b. The leftrear panel 14 a, the rightrear panel 14 b,first side panels 16,second side panels 18, the leftfront panel 20 a, the rightfront panel 20 b, the rear toptriangular panel 22 a, and the front toptriangular panel 22 b form theside walls 13 of themodular exterior building 10. Theleft roof panel 24 a and theright roof panel 24 b form theroof 15 of themodular exterior building 10. As outlined below, for all of the left panels 12 a-24 a, theright panels 12 b-24 b are mirror images thereof, such that a description of any of the left panels applies to any of the right panels, and vice versa. However, it is contemplated that thenon-insulated panels 11 could have different configurations. The beams 26 can be made out of wood or any other material. For example, the beams 26 can be 2 inches by 6 inches beams of wood, 2 inches by 4 inches beams of wood, or 1.5 inches by 3.5 inches beams of wood. The beams could have other width and thickness dimensions. As illustrated inFIG. 3A andFIG. 4 , thepin beam 26 a includes ahook receiving opening 28 therethrough, with apin 29 extending across thehook receiving opening 28. In the illustrated embodiment, thepin beam 26 a and thehook beam 26 b are fixedly connected when thehook 30 is moved to the engaged position. It is contemplated that thehook 30 can be the hook described in U.S. Pat. No. 6,299,224, entitled, PANEL FASTENER, the hook described in U.S. Pat. No. 6,070,919, entitled, PANEL FASTENER, or the hook described in U.S. Pat. No. 6,409,235, entitled, PANEL FASTENER, the entire contents of all of which are hereby incorporated herein by reference.
