Description

Sept. 3, 1935- H. o. ZEIDLER STRIPPER FOR LAUNDRY ROLLERS Filed June 29', 1932 I INVENTOR 6 9 'aza 0 70467? AT RNEY Patented Sept. 3,1935
UNITED STATES" ArENT OFFICE 6 Claims. (Cl. 68-9) The object of my invention is to provide a device of this class, which will readily separate ironed laundry from ironing rollers in a mangle, or similar machine. This and other objects, are accomplished by my invention, one embodiment of which is hereinafter more particularly set forth.
For a more detailed description of my invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof in which Figure l is a sectional view of onev embodiment of my invention, when applied to an ordinary ironing machine;
Figure 2 shows a fastener for a separating strip;
Figure 3 shows a support for the same; and
Figure 4 is an inverted plan diagrammatic View of a machine embodying my invention, with the. steam chest removed.
Throughout the various views of the drawing, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
A mangle I of the conventional type has a steam chest 2 and a series of rollers 3, d, and 5, as many being used as desired, and these are placed in hollows over the steam chest as indicated in Figure l. The rollers rotate continuously and in the. embodiment of my invention, herein shown, may be assumed to rotate either clockwise or anti-clockwise. It is assumed that they run clockwise for the purposes of this description.
Laundry B entering under the roller 5 is separated from this roller by a metallic ribbon or strip 1 so that when this laundry emerges from the left side of each roller, it will not follow the roller but will be separated by the strip 1, and pass on under this strip to the next roller in the conventional manner, until eventually it emerges at the left of the roller 3.
The strip 1 is a small fiat wire or ribbon with a loop at each end formed withthe aid of a clamp 8, and passing over a crossbar 9 of the machine. Between rollers and at convenient locations are placed supports It) which carry crossbars H and from each crossbar is hung a stirrup l2, over which thestrip I is passed. It is preferable to make thestirrup l2 adjustable and this is done by supporting it by means of a screw !3, which passes through the bar I l and has a screw threaded connection with the same. The bar I! is, in
turn, adjustably mounted on a bent bar I4, which forms a part of the support l9, and the upper and horizontal portion of this bar I l rests in a saddle I5 of any convenient form. It is desirable that this saddle slide freely on the frame [6 of the machine.
In the preferred embodiment of my invention, the strippers I do not run in planes perpendicular to the axis of the rollers, 3, d, and 5, but in planes slightly at an angleto the same, as indicated in Figure 4, so that when the material to be ironed :5 passes between the rollers and the steam chest, this material will not be grooved by these tapes.
In view of the foregoing, the operation of my improved strippers will be readily understood. Assuming that the apparatus is as above set forth and laundry 6 enters at the right and passes out at the left, it will be ironed between the steam chest 2 and the rollers 5, 3, and 3 in the conventional manner, and the strippers T will function to separate the laundry from the rollers when leaving 15 the rollers, and will notgroove this material because the strippers are diagonally disposed, and so do not have a continuous contact with the laundry at any onelongitudinal line when passing through the machine.
While I have shown and described one embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that it is not restricted thereto, but that it is broad enough to cover all structures that come within the scope of the annexed claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. In a machine of the class described, a steam chest and a series of ironing rollers mounted above the same, a flexible stripper located between the steam chest and rollers means for securing said stripper at each end of the machine, and means for supporting this stripper between rollers.
2. In a machine of the class described, a steam chest and a roller above the same, a separating strip between the steam chest and the roller, and means for securing the strip so that it is placed diagonally across the path of laundry passing between the steam chest and the roller.
3. In a machine of the class described a steam chest and a number of spaced rollers mounted above the same, a flexible stripper located between the steam chest and rollers, means for 45 engaging the ends of the stripper beyond the rollers, and saddles located between the rollers for supporting portions of the stripper.
4. In a machine of the class described, a steam chest and a plurality of spaced rollers mounted to co-operate with the chest in performing an ironing operation, a plurality of flat flexible tapes constituting strippers located between the steam chest and rollers, said tapes extending transversely of the rollers, means for securing the 0pposite ends of the tapes beyond the rollers and means located between the rollers for engaging and supporting the tapes.
5. In a machine of the class described, a steam chest and a series of ironing rollers mounted above the same, a flexible stripper located between the steam chest and rollers, means for securing said stripper at least at the feeding in end of the machine, and means for supporting this stripper between rollers. v
6. A stripper device for flat Work ironing machines including a heat chest and a plurality of successive ironing rolls, said device comprising a resilient metal band having an end supported at the feed side of a roll and the band extending between the roll and co-operating chest portion to the delivery side of the roll and adjacently the place of departure of the goods extending from the roll above the periphery of the associated heat chest into the space between said roll and the next succeeding roll for preventing the goods stripped from the first-named roll from rising unduly and for directing said goods to the nip of said next succeeding roll, and means including a support between the first-named roll and the next succeeding roll to support said band.
