Description

D. G. ROLLIN Primer for Fire-Arms. No. 20,129. Patented Apr. 27, 1858.
",VETENS, rmJYO-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D.
UNITED STATES PATE T OFFICE.
DANIEL G. ROLLIN, OF NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO GEO. G. MARTIN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CONTINUOUS PRIMING FOR FIRE-ARMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 20,129, dated April 27, 1858.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, D. G. ROLLIN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Percussion- Prirning for Fire-Arms; and I do hereby declare and ascertain my improved priming, referring to the accompanying drawing, which makes a part thereof.
My priming consists of cylinders formed of a compound of detonating materials mixed with such materials as gun-cotton solution or similar adhesive preparation, by which the fulminate or detonating material can be molded into the proper form herein specified.
I form the compound, when properly mixed and in a plastic state, into short sticks an inch or two, more or less, and about the sixteenth of an inch (more or less, according to the purpose for which it is intended) in diameter, the figure being cylindrical, prismatic, or other convenient l'orm, as shown in the drawing, a b c. This priming is used in fire-arms by cutting off a small portion thereof and exploding it at the vent of the arm by any convenient apparatus for the purpose. This cylindrical form of priming without any insulation renders the priming of an arm more certain than any method heretofore employed, especially in repeating-arms; but whether used on a repeating-arm or a single-charged arm it is necessary to be combined with an independent cut-oft, so as to be entirely severed and sepa- Witnesses GEo. G. MARTIN, 1 GAHILL.
