Abstract

A portable ice fishing or hunting shanty is provided that has a stored mode and a deployed mode. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty has a frame that has a mounting bar that can be inserted into a hitch receiver such as a “4 Wheeler” all terrain vehicle. When the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty is in a stored mode several panels are folded together and all of the shanty components are combined together in a self contained compact unit. When the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty is in a deployed mode the shanty has a seat for a fisherman, floor panels, and at shell enclosure. A floor panel has a hinged panel that opens to allow holes to be drilled in ice for ice fishing. The shanty can be quickly be transformed from the stored mode into the deployed mode. The shanty can be also be quickly be transformed from the deployed mode into the stored mode.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The invention relates to portable ice fishing and hunting shanties.

DESCRIPTION OF PRIOR ART

Ice fishing shanties are generally of two designs.
Some ice fishing shacks are home made and are rather crude wooden shacks that have skids on them. They are transported to a a fishing site by the owner. Some are left on the lake for the ice fishing season. These type of shacks are rather cumbersome and difficult to transport. They are subject to vandalism if left on the lake.
The other type of fishing shacks are similar to tents, which are pitched on the ice for each use. This type of fishing shack is difficult to use. The wind blows often against the tent can blow the tent away. They are very difficult to anchor in place on the ice and snow.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that is very convenient to use.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that is very easy to take to a ice fishing or hunting site.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that is very quick to set up into a deployed mode.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that is very quick to convert into a stored mode after the shanty has been in a deployed mode.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that is self contained. All of the components are combined into one unit.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that can be used for ice fishing and can be also used for hunting deer and/or hunting ducks or hunting geese, etc.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that is light weight.
It is an object of the invention to provide to a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that is easy to transport.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty could be easily transported by a small “4wheeler” all terrain vehicle.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty could be adapted to be mounted on a truck or a sport utility vehicle.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that has a simple design.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that has a minimum of parts.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that would be easy to manufacture.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that could be made in numerous alternate designs and sizes.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that can be made of a variety of materials such as aluminum, fiberglass, carbon fiber, wood, steel, plastic, different fabrics, different colors, camouflage, etc.
It is an object of the invention to provide a portable ice fishing or hunting shanty that can be made of a rugged design that would require minimal maintenance.

The frame of portable ice fishing or hunting shanty has a hole that the pin is inserted into. The special mounting pin is shown holding the portable outdoor sports shanty in the folded up stored mode. The pin is shown inserted into the hole in the frame.

FIG. 12 is a close up side view of a special mounting pin of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of FIG. 1. The frame of portable outdoor sports shanty has a hole that the pin is inserted into. The special mounting pin holds the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty in the folded up stored mode. The pin is shown not inserted into the hole in the frame when the frame is in the deployed mode.

The objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent when the drawings are studied in conjunction with reading the following description and also reading the claims.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

In keeping with the requirements of Patent Laws there is described herein below the best mode of the invention that is currently known to the applicant. For the purposes of promoting an understanding of the principles of the invention, reference will now be made to the embodiment illustrated in the drawings and specific language will be used to describe the same. It will nevertheless be understood that no limitation of the scope of the invention is thereby intended, such alterations and further modifications in the illustrated device, and such further applications of the principles of the invention as illustrated therein being contemplated as would normally occur to one skilled in the art to which the invention relates.
With reference now to the drawings, and in particular, to FIGS. 1-12 thereof, the preferred embodiments of the new and the principles and concepts of the present invention and generally designated by the reference number 10 will be described.
FIG. 1 shows generally at 10 is a side perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 in the deployed mode with a motorized vehicle 15.
Shown generally at 12 is a motorized vehicle 15 that has a trailer hitch receiver 16. Motorized vehicle is on top 17 of a frozen body of water. Solid ice 18 covers the water which has fish 20 therein.
The shanty 12 has a mounting bar 101 (not seen) that is mounted into the trailer hitch receiver 16 of the motorized vehicle 15. Shown generally at 12 is the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 in the deployed mode. Portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 has a shell 22 made of a water proof durable material such as canvas or nylon, etc. Side wall 23 has a window 24. Portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 has another side wall 26 (not seen) and a front wall 30 (not seen). Shanty rear wall 28 has a door 30 and a window 32 in the door 28. Shanty top wall 34 has a front end 35 and rear end 36. Shanty top wall 34 has a peak 37 and a window 38 that works similar to a sky light. Rear frame member 62 and side frame member 68 can be seen.
Shown generally at 60 in FIG. 2 is a side perspective view of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 of FIG. 1 in the folded up or stored mode. Shanty is mounted to hitch receiver 16 of motorized vehicle 15. The shanty 13 has a mounting bar 101 (not seen) that is mounted into the trailer hitch receiver 16 of the motorized vehicle 15. The shanty 13 would be in this mode when traveling to a fishing or hunting site. Also the shanty 13 would be in this mode when returning from a fishing or hunting site. Additionally, shanty would be in this mode when stored. Shanty could be detached from motorized vehicle 15 when not in use, or shanty 13 could be stored mounted to motorized vehicle.
Shanty 13 has frame member 62 and floor panel 64. Floor panel 64 has a hinged panel 66 that opens when shanty 13 is in the fully deployed mode. Shanty 13 has frame members 68 and floor panel 69. Shanty has frame members 70 and 71 which has seating panel 72 and seat back panel 74. Frame 68 has pivot pin 76 and retaining pin 78. Shanty rib assemblies 80-84 are stored on top of seating panel 72. Shanty shell 22 is stored on top of rib assemblies 80-84. Mounting bracket 86 has rib socket 87 mounted thereon. Frame 68 has pivot pin 76 and hole 79 retaining pin 78.
Shown generally at 88 in FIG. 3 is a side perspective view of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 of FIG. 1 in the first step in transforming the shanty from folded up mode or stored mode to the deployed mode. Shanty is mounted to hitch receiver of motorized vehicle 15. The shanty 12 has a mounting bar 101 (not seen) that is mounted into the trailer hitch receiver 16 of the motorized vehicle 15.
Shanty 13 has frame member 62 and floor panel 64. Floor panel 64 has a hinged panel 66 that opens when shanty 13 is in the fully deployed mode. Shanty 13 has frame members 68 and floor panel 69 and under seat panel 73. Shanty has frame members 70 and 71 which has seating panel 72 and seat back panel 74. Frame 68 has pivot pin 76 and hole 79 for retaining pin 78 (not shown). Shanty rib assemblies 80-84 are stored on top, of seat 72. Mounting brackets 86 are attached to frame members 70 and 71. Floor panel 64 has rib socket 87 and rib socket 92.
Shown generally at 100 in FIG. 4 is a side perspective view of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 of FIG. 1 in the next step in transforming the shanty from folded up mode to the deployed mode. Shanty is mounted to hitch receiver 16 of motorized vehicle 15. The shanty 13 has a mounting bar 101 that is mounted into the trailer hitch receiver 16 of the motorized vehicle 15.

Shanty rib assembly 80 has “U” shaped top section that has 2 ends. Rib assembly 80 has rib straight section 80 b that has coupler 81 on the top end that will mate with a leg end of “U” shaped top section. Coupler 81 has threaded bolts 81 a and 81 b that can be tightened. Rib straight section 80 b has bottom end 80 c that will be inserted into socket 87 in order to mount rib assembly 80 to frame 62.
Rib assembly 80 has rib straight section 80 d that has coupler, 81 on the top end that will mate with the other leg end “U” shaped top section. Coupler 81 has threaded bolts that can be tightened. Rib straight section 80 d has s bottom end 80 e that will be inserted into socket 91 in order to mount rib assembly 80 to frame 62.
Shanty rib assembly 82 has “U” shaped top section that has 2 ends. Rib assembly 82 has rib straight section 82 b that has coupler 81 on the top end that will mate with a leg end of “U” shaped top section. Coupler 81 has threaded bolts that can be tightened. Rib straight section 82 b has bottom end 82 c that will be inserted into socket 92 in order to mount rib assembly 80 to frame 62.
Rib assembly 82 has rib straight section 82 d that has coupler 81 on the top end that will mate with the other leg end “U” shaped top section. Coupler 81 has threaded bolts that can be tightened. Rib straight section 82 d has bottom end 82 e that will be inserted into socket 93 in order to mount rib 82 assembly to frame 62.
Shanty rib assembly 84 has “U” shaped top section that has 2 ends. Rib assembly 84 has rib straight section 84 b that has coupler 81 on the top end that will mate with a leg end of “U” shaped top section. Coupler 81 has threaded bolts that can be tightened. Rib straight section 84 b has bottom end 84 c that will be inserted into socket 87 a (not seen) in order to mount rib 84 assembly to frame 70.
Rib assembly 84 has rib straight section 84 d that has coupler 81 on the top end that will mate with the other leg end “U” shaped top section. Coupler 81 has threaded bolts that can be tightened. Rib straight section 84 d has bottom end 84 e that will be inserted into socket 91 a (not seen) in order to mount rib assembly 84 to frame 70.
Top bar 108 has fastener 110 and fastener 112. Top bar 108 will have fastener 112 connected to top of rib 80 and fastener 110 will be connected to top of rib 82. Top bar 114 has fastener 116 and fastener 118. Top bar 114 will have fastener 116 connected to top of rib 84 and fastener 118 will be connected to top of rib 82
Shown generally at 130 in FIG. 5 is a side perspective view of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 in a next step in transforming the shanty from folded up mode to the deployed mode. Shanty is mounted to hitch receiver 16 of motorized vehicle 15. The shanty 13 has a mounting bar 101 that is mounted into the trailer hitch receiver 16 of the motorized vehicle 15.

FIG. 6 shows generally at 120 is a side perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 in the deployed mode with a motorized vehicle 15. (Part of shell 22 has been removed in order to see interior of shanty 13.) Motorized vehicle 15 has a trailer hitch receiver 16. Motorized vehicle is on top 17 of a frozen body of water. Solid ice 18 covers the water which has fish 20 therein. The shanty 13 has a mounting bar 101 (not seen) that is mounted into the trailer hitch receiver 16 of the motorized vehicle 15. Shanty top wall 34 has a peak 37 and a window 38 that works similar to a sky light.

Rib straight section 82 b has bottom end 82 c that is inserted into socket 92 on frame 62.
Rib assembly 82 has rib straight section 82 d that has coupler 81 on the top end that mates with the other leg end “U” shaped top section. Coupler 81 has threaded bolts that are tightened. Rib straight section 82 d has bottom end 80 e that is inserted into socket 93 of frame 62.
Shanty rib assembly 84 has “U” shaped top section 84 a that has 2 ends. Rib assembly 84 has rib straight section 84 b (not seen) that has coupler 81 on the top end that mates with a leg end of “U” shaped top section. Coupler 81 has threaded bolts that are tightened. Rib straight section 84 b has bottom end 84 c (not seen)that is inserted into socket 87 a (not seen) on frame 70.
Various means can be utilized to fasten shanty shell 22 to the other components of the portable shanty 13. The shanty shell 22 can be permanently fastened to the other components of the shanty by rivet& or screws or glues, etc. Alternately the shanty shell 22 could be fastened to the other portable shanty components by snap fittings.
Fisherman 122 is seated on seating panel 72 with fishing pole 124 and line 126 that extends through hole 104 in ice 18. Fishing bait 128 is on end of line 126.
Ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 can be made of a variety of materials such as aluminum, ii fiberglass, carbon fiber, wood, plywood, steel, stainless steel, different plastics, different fabrics, canvas, different colors, different camouflage designs, etc.
Shown generally at 140 in FIG. 7 is a bottom view of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13 in the folded up stored mode. The shanty 13 has a mounting bar 101 that is to be mounted into the trailer hitch receiver 16 of the motorized vehicle 15.
Shanty 13 has frame members 68 and floor panel 69 and under seat panel 73. Shanty has frame members 70 which has seating panel 72. Frame 68 has pivot pins 76 and retaining pins 78.
Shown generally at 160 in FIG. 8A is a close up side view of a special “L” shaped mounting fitting 86 of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of FIG. 1. The special “L” shaped mounting fitting 86 is utilized to hold the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty in the folded up mode or stored mode. Socket 87 on frame 62 is to be placed over special “L” shaped mounting bracket 86 on frame 70.
Shown generally at 170 in FIG. 8B is a close up side view of a “L” shaped mounting fitting of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13. The special “L” shaped mounting fitting 86 is utilized to hold the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty in the folded up mode or stored mode. Socket 87 on frame is be placed over special “L” shaped mounting fitting 86 on frame 70. The special “L” shaped mounting fitting 86 is shown holding the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty in the folded up mode or stored mode.
Shown generally at 180 in FIG. 9 is a side view of mounting bar 101 of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13. Mounting bar has hole 182. Also shown is the hitch receiver 16 of the motorized vehicle 15. Hitch receiver 16 has square opening 184 that mounting bar 101 of shanty 13 will be inserted into. Hitch receiver has hole 186. Hitch pin 188 and hitch pin clip 190 are shown.
Shown generally at 190 in FIG. 10 is a side view of mounting bar 101 of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13. Also shown is the hitch receiver 16 of the motorized vehicle 15. Hitch receiver 16 has square opening 184 that mounting bar 101 of shanty 13 is inserted into. Hitch pin 188 is inserted into Hitch receiver hole 186. Hitch pin is inserted through hole 182 in mounting bar 101. Hitch pin clip 190 is fastened to hitch pin. This secures the shanty 13 to motorized vehicle 15.
A hitch receiver 101 of most “4 wheeler” all terrain vehicles have a square opening 184 of approximately 1 ¼ inches. A mounting bar 101 of a shanty 13 that is to be used with a “4 wheeler” all terrain vehicle has square cross-sectional shape of slightly under 1 ¼ inches.
A hitch receiver 101 of most trucks or SUV's have a square opening 184 of approximately 2 inches. A mounting bar 101 of a shanty 13 that is to be used with a truck or a SUV would have square cross section shape of slightly under 2 inches.
Shown generally at 200 in FIG. 11 is a close up side view of a special mounting device of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13. Frame 68 has pivot pin 76. The frame 68 has a hole 77 (not seen) that pin 78 is inserted into, and frame 70 has a hole 79 (not seen) that pin 78 is inserted into. The special mounting pin 78 holds the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty in the folded up mode or stored mode. This folded up or stored mode is shown in FIG. 2. Shown generally at 210 in FIG. 12 is a close up side view of a special mounting device of the portable ice fishing or hunting shanty 13. Frame 68 has pivot pin 76. The frame 68 has a hole 77 that pin 78 is inserted into when shanty 13 is in stored mode. Frame 70 has a hole 79 that pin 78 is inserted into when shanty 13 is in folded up mode or stored mode. The special mounting pin 78 not used when shanty 13 is in deployed mode. This deployed mode is shown in FIGS. 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
It should be very clear from the drawings and the above description that this new portable ice fishing or hunting shanty is unique and clearly provides a solution that the prior art does not provide.

This invention having been described in its presently contemplated best mode, it is clear that it is susceptible to numerous, variations, modifications, modes and embodiments within the ability of those skilled in the art and without departing from the true spirit and scope of the novel concepts or principles of this invention. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting. It should be understood that the preferred embodiments have been shown and described and that all changes and modifications that come within the spirit of the invention are desired to be protected. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways.
As such, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the conception, upon which this disclosure is based, may readily be utilized as a basis for the designing of other structures, methods and systems for carrying out the several purposes of the present invention. It is important, therefore, that the claims be regarded as including such equivalent constructions insofar as they do not depart from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
Accordingly, the scope of the invention is defined by the scope of the following claims.

Claims

1. A portable ice fishing or hunting shanty comprising:

a shanty main frame; said shanty main frame having a mounting bar thereon; said mounting bar having means for mating with a hitch receiver on a motorized vehicle;

a seating panel; said seating panel being coupled to said main frame;

an under seat panel; said under seat panel being coupled to said main frame;

a floor panel; said floor panel being coupled to said under seat panel;

said portable shanty having a shanty shell;

said portable shanty having a deployed mode and a stored mode;

when said portable shanty is in said deployed mode, said first floor panel is positioned on a surface; and said second floor panel is positioned on said surface;

when said portable shanty is in said deployed mode, said shanty shell forms a shanty enclosure; said shanty enclosure having a shanty inner surface and a shanty outer surface; said shanty enclosure having shanty side walls and a shanty top wall;

a door being located on a shanty side wall;

when said portable shanty is in said stored mode; a floor panel is positioned above said seating panel;

when said portable shanty is in said stored mode, said shanty shell does not form a shanty enclosure.

2. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 including means for keeping said portable shanty in stored mode.

3. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 wherein a floor panel is coupled to said shanty main frame when said portable shanty in stored mode.

4. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 including means for keeping said shanty in said deployed mode.

5. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 including a rib that is coupled to said shanty; said rib having means for keeping said shanty shell in said deployed mode.

6. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 including more than one rib being coupled to said shanty; said ribs having means for keeping said shanty shell in said deployed mode.

7. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 wherein a floor panel has an opening therethrough.

8. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 wherein a floor panel has an opening therethrough; and including a panel that has an open position and a closed position; when said panel is in said closed position, said panel covers said opening in said floor panel.

9. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 wherein a floor panel has an opening therethrough; and including a hinged panel that has an open position and a closed position; when said hinged panel is in said closed position, said panel covers said opening in said floor panel.

10. The portable ice fishing or hunting to shanty of claim 1 including an additional floor panel.

11. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 including means for fastening said shanty shell to said shanty main frame.

12. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 wherein said mounting bar has square cross sectional shape that will fit into a one and one fourth inch hitch receiver on a motorized vehicle; or, said mounting bar has square cross sectional shape that will fit into a two inch hitch receiver on a motorized vehicle.

13. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 wherein said door has a window thereon.

14. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 wherein said shell is made of a waterproof material, or a canvas material, or a plastic material, or a nylon material, or a camouflage material.

15. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 including a window located on a shanty side wall.

16. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 including a window located on a shanty side wall; said window having an open position and an closed position.

17. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 1 wherein components of said shanty are made of aluminum, or fiberglass, or carbon fiber, or wood, or plywood, or steel, or metal, or stainless steel, or different types of plastic.

18. A portable ice fishing or hunting shanty comprising:

a seating panel; said seating panel being coupled to said main frame;

an under seat panel; said under seat panel being coupled to said main frame;

a floor panel; said floor panel being coupled to said under seat panel;

said portable shanty having a shanty shell;

said portable shanty having a deployed mode and a stored mode;

when said portable shanty is in said deployed mode, said floor panel is positioned on a surface;

a door being located on a shanty side wall;

when said portable shanty is in said stored mode, said shanty shell does not form a shanty enclosure;

said portable shanty having means for keeping said portable shanty in deployed mode; and,

said portable shanty having means for keeping said portable shanty in stored mode.

19. The portable ice fishing or hunting shanty of claim 18 wherein a floor panel has an opening therethrough.

20. A portable ice fishing or hunting shanty comprising:

a seating panel; said seating panel being coupled to said main frame;

an under seat panel; said under seat panel being coupled to said main frame;

a floor panel; said floor panel being coupled to said under seat panel;

a floor panel has an opening therethrough;

a panel that has an open position and a closed position; when said panel is in said closed position, said panel covers said opening in said floor panel.

said portable shanty having a deployed mode and a stored mode;

a door being located on a shanty side wall;
