Abstract

A headboard holster that is to be inserted between the mattress and box spring with placement between the headboard and mattress concealing whatever is in it and allowing the occupant of the bed easy and immediate access to whatever they place in it. The headboard holster comprises of a front panel, a rear panel, a right panel, a left panel, and an extended bottom. The panels are fastened together to form the storage space for the present invention. The storage space of the present invention is large enough to hold a weapon for safety purposes. The holster is held between the mattress and headboard by means of a board that extends inwardly between a mattress and box spring. The board comprises of rounded corners for easy insertion between a mattress and a box spring.

Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates generally to an apparatus providing in-bed storage. More specifically, the objective of the present invention is to provide a headboard holster providing a compartment to store objects for easy and immediate access for the person or persons sleeping or resting in the bed.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIOR ART

Traditionally, for bedside storage many people place a night stand that comprises a storage compartment bedside. However, the use of a night stand occupies space that can be used for other purposes. Additionally, access to the storage spaces on the night stands from the bed, can at times be inconvenient as it requires the user to sit-up or lean over to open and close its drawers. Especially in times of emergencies, this inconvenience can be the difference between life and death. The period that a person is sleeping (⅓ of their day) is a time where he/she is most vulnerable to attack. This is the reason why many people store weapons bedside. In the event people are required to defend themselves when they are awoken, they will need easy and immediate access to their weapon. However, having to open and reach for their weapons from a drawer will slow down this response time. Many inventions have been made to allow users to adapt to sudden situations quickly. Among these inventions include bed side storage devices allowing users to simply reach for a device or device that are secured bedside for the sole purpose of holding a weapon.
The U.S. Pat. No. 5,732,914 introduces a bed side gun holder specifically for rifles or shot guns. The invention makes use of an extended board to secure itself to the side of a bed while having support members that can hold up a rifle or shotgun. This allows for users to quickly access a weapon in times of emergency. However, the invention is only able to solely hold an elongated piece.
The United States Patent Application Publication 2002/0018601 introduces an invention of a satchel that is positioned bedside being held between a mattress and a box spring. However, the satchel is limited in space and can only hold a very limited number of small items.
The U.S. Pat. No. 4,483,501 introduces a bed side mount that is able to hold a handgun holster. The invention makes use of an extended member for insertion between a mattress and box spring to be stabilized bed side. The present invention allows a user to mount their handgun and holster bedside for easy access. However, this invention can only hold a single handgun holster and does not lend to concealing it whatsoever.
The U.S. Pat. No. 5,161,484 introduces a collapsible surface that can be mounted bedside. The original purpose as stated in the patent is to allow a pet to rest by a user on the bed. The invention comprises of an extended mounting support which is inserted between a mattress and a box spring for stabilization. The invention can alternatively be used to place a user's personal items and self-defense weapons bedside for easy access. However, the invention is a simple surface where items can easily fall off the side and drop to the floor and does nothing to conceal anything.
The prior art stated above, all included bedside mounted device. However, the devices stated in the prior art above, all comprised of limited storage space for holding a user's personal effects or to keep the weapon out of the line of sight of an attacker. The present invention allows users to hold a wide variety of items from personal items to weapons, keep them out of sight (between the mattress and the headboard or wall) of a potential threat. The personal items can include a remote control, a pair of glasses, flashlight, various type of defense weapon, or any other personal effects. The present invention comprises a large storage compartment that allows users to store a large variety of weapons or items, keep them safely out of sight of a potential threat and have immediate access.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

There is a great need for immediate access to items for self protection while in bed. An inconspicuous place to keep one's jewelry, important documents, flashlight or weapon should be considered a necessity for a bedroom. There have been many attempts to meet this need such as below-the-bed storage crates or bags, bed chests, headboard storage areas or other devices which allow the user to attach a specific gun holster but none of these addresses the issue of keeping such weapons out of sight. Regarding the present invention, a headboard typically includes a means of vertical support and an upright board. A storage headboard usually includes an additional compartment or a plurality of compartments that is stationed behind the bed end wherein the user's head would lie. Many of these storage places are made into shelves primarily for aesthetic purposes. To ornament the bed using the headboard, many users mostly comprising of couples and families purchase these storage shelves to beautify the area with pictures of family, small plants, unused jewelry, etc. For those who are more concerned about the safety for the home, typically, the user would store his weapon of protection under the bed, or between the mattress and box spring where it is harder to reach under and grab in the case of an immediate threat. In those incidents of a break in, the typical user in the middle of his sleep would find it inconvenient to gain immediate access to his firearm underneath his bed, in the bedside table, closet or elsewhere. The present invention provides a means of holstering one's firearm or any other items for storage that is easy to access and difficult for others to locate, particularly when the user is asleep in bed.

DETAIL DESCRIPTIONS OF THE INVENTION

All illustrations of the drawings are for the purpose of describing selected versions of the present invention and are not intended to limit the scope of the present invention.
The present invention provides a means to store one's personal items, particularly a firearm or any portable means for security of the household. The present invention conceals the stored items within the headboard holster from unwanted users, and makes such protection immediately accessible. Although mostly intended to holster the user's security items, the present invention can also serve as a small storage for jewelry, TV remotes and such.
In reference to the FIG. 1 and FIG. 6, the present invention is a storage unit that can conveniently be held between a box spring and a mattress comprising of an extended bottom 1, a front panel 2, a rear panel 3, a left panel 4, a right panel 5, a storage space 6, and a fastener 7. The extended bottom 1 is a thin board that is the support and base of the present invention. The extended bottom 1 comprises of a storage side 11, an insert side 12, and extended corners 13. The front panel 2, the rear panel 3, the left panel 4 and the right panel 5 are the components of the present invention that define the storage space 6 utilized by users to store their personal belongings. The front panel 2 comprises a front extended topside and a front lower side 22. The rear panel 3 comprises a rear extended top side 31 and a rear lower side 32. The left panel 4 comprises of a left lower side 41. The right panel 5 comprises of a right lower side 51.
In reference to FIG. 4 and FIG. 6, to form the storage space 6, the front panel 2, the rear panel 3, the right panel 5, the left panel 4, and the extended bottom 1 are connected. The front panel 2 is fastened to the right panel 5 and the left panel 4 on its front right edge and front left edge by the fastener 7. The rear panel 3 is fastened to the right panel 5 and the left panel 4 on its rear right edge and its rear left edge opposite of the front panel 2 by the fastener 7. The right panel 5 is fastened to the front panel 2 and the rear panel 3 on its right front edge and its right rear edge by the fastener 7. The left panel 4 is fastened to the front panel 2 and the rear panel 3 on its left front edge and its left rear edge by the fastener 7. The front panel 2 comprises a front extended top side 21, a front lower side 22, a front first level indentation 23, and a front second level indentation 24. The rear panel 3 comprises a rear extended top side 31, a rear lower side 32, a rear first level indentation 33, and a rear second level indentation 34. The left panel 4 comprises a left lower side 41, a left first level indentation 42, and a left second level indentation 43. The right panel 5 comprises a right lower side 51, a right first level indentation 52, and a right second level indentation 53. The front panel 2, the rear panel 3, the right panel 5, and the left panel 4 are connected in a fashion that the front lower side 22, the rear lower side 32, the right lower side 51, and the left lower side 41 are equally leveled. By the connection of the front panel 2 to the right panel 5 and the left panel 4, the front lower side 22 is arranged adjacent to the right lower side 51 and the left lower side 41 in perpendicular relationship. By the connection of the rear panel 3 to the right pane and the left panel 4, the rear lower side 32 is arranged adjacent to the right lower side 51 and the left lower side 41 in perpendicular relationship. Resultantly, the right lower side 51 and the left lower side 41 is also arranged adjacent and in perpendicular relationship to the front lower side 22 and the rear lower side 32. The front panel 2 and the rear panel 3 are connected by the right panel 5 and left panel 4 arranged in parallel relationship to each other. The left panel 4 and the right panel 5 are connected by the front panel 2 and the rear panel 3 arranged in parallel relationships to each other. To define the storage space 6, the extended bottom 1 is then fastened to the front lower side 22, the rear lower side 32, the left lower side 41, and the right lower side 51 on the storage side 11 by the fastener 7. The front panel 2, the rear panel 3, the left panel 4, and the right panel 5 are aligned to the storage side 11 with the rear panel 3 facing the edge of the storage side 11. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the front panel 2, the rear panel 3, the right panel 5, and the left panel 4 form a rectangular storage space 6. However, in other embodiments of the present invention, the storage space 6 can be shaped to be any shape for convenient storage or aesthetic purposes. By fastening the plurality of panels to the extended bottom 1, the panels are erected vertically up from the extended board forming the storage space 6. The storage space 6 is a recessed space with the panels and extended bottom 1 being the walls that enclose it. The fastener 7 used to secure all of the panels and the extended bottom 1 together can be any type of fastener including adhesives, nails, screws, bolts, pegs, pins, or any other suitable fastener.
The front extended top side 21 of the front panel 2 extends above the right panel 5 and the left panel 4. Similarly, the rear extended top side 31 of the rear panel 3 extends above the right panel 5 and the left panel 4. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the rear extended top side 31 and the front extended top side 21 equally extend above the right panel 5 and the left panel 4. In other embodiments of the present invention, the rear extended top side 31 and the front extended top side 21 may extend differently in height. The front extended top side 21 comprises front corners 211. The rear extended top side 31 comprises rear corners 311. The front corners 211 and the rear corners 311 are rounded for safety purpose. The front corners 211 and rear corners 311 being rounded reduce the risk of a user falling onto the corners resulting in injury. Below the front extended top side 21 is positioned the front first level indentation 23 and the front second level indentation 24. Below the rear extended top side 31 is positioned the rear first level indentation 33 and the rear second level indentation 33. The left first level indentation 42 and the right first level indentation 53 are connected to the front first level indentation 23 and the rear first level indentation 33. The left second level indentation 43 and the right second level indentation 53 are connected to the front second level indentation 24 and the rear second level indentation 33. The indentations of the front panel 2 and the rear panel 3 are shaped similarly to the front extended top side 21. The front first level indentation 23 and the rear first level indentation 33 are aligned. The front second level indentation 24 and the rear second level indentation 33 are aligned. These indentations allow users to customize the height of their headboard holster. The users can simply take a power tool to cut along the first level indentations or the second level indentations of all the panels.
In reference to FIG. 6, to secure the present invention to a bed and mattress, the extended bottom 1 utilizes the insert side 12. The insert side 12 is the portion of the extended bottom 1 that extends out from the storage side 11. The insert side 12 is an open board panel that is sandwiched between a bed and mattress for stabilizing the present invention. The insert side 12 comprises of extended corners 13. The extended corners 13 are round for easy handling and insertion between the bed and mattress. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the front panel 2, the rear panel 3, the left panel 4, the right panel 5, and the extended bottom 1 is made from a wooden material. However, in other embodiments of the present invention, the front panel 2, the rear panel 3, the left panel 4, the right panel 5, and the extended bottom 1 can be made from any other materials including plastics, metals, or any other suitable materials.
The present invention can be positioned on either side of a bed, positioned at the foot of the bed, or be placed between the mattress and the headboard. By utilizing the present invention to the bed, the user will have immediate and easy access to the TV remote, other personal belongings such as glasses, wallets, cell phones, and such. Additionally, the storage space 6 is large enough to store any relevant items for security means including firearms, flashlight, tazer, pepper spray and such. The headboard holster provides the user the means to store such security items and everyday essentials in a convenient place, where immediate access is desired and exposure to danger for unwanted users is minimized.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.

1. An apparatus of a headboard holster comprises,

a extended bottom;

a storage space;

a fastener;

a front panel;

a rear panel;

a left panel;

a right panel;

the extended bottom being a thin board; and

the extended bottom comprises a storage side, a insert side, and a extended corners.

2. An apparatus of a headboard holster as claimed in claim 1 comprises,

the front panel comprises a front extended top side, a front lower side, a front first level indentation, and a front second level indentation;

the rear panel comprises a rear extended top side, a rear lower side, a rear first level indentation, and a rear second level indentation;

the left panel comprises of a left lower side, a left first level indentation, and a left second level indentation; and

the right panel comprises of a right lower side, a right first level indentation, and a right second level indentation.

3. An apparatus of a headboard holster as claimed in claim 2 comprises,

the left panel being fastened between the front panel and the rear panel in perpendicular relationship by the fastener; and

the right panel being fastened between the front panel and the rear panel in perpendicular relationship by the fastener.

4. An apparatus of a headboard holster as claimed in claim 3 comprises,

the front panel and the rear panel being arranged in parallel relationship;

the front lower side being adjacent to the left lower side and the right lower side in perpendicular relationship;

the rear lower side being adjacent to the left lower side and the right lower side in perpendicular relationship;

the left lower side being adjacent to the front lower side and the rear lower side in perpendicular relationship; and

the right lower side being adjacent to the front lower side and the rear lower side in perpendicular relationship.

5. An apparatus of a headboard holster as claimed in claim 3 comprises,

the front extended top side being extended above the right panel and the left panel;

the rear extended top side being extended above the right panel and the left panel in parallel relationship to the front extended top side;

the front extended top side having front corners; and

the rear extended top side having rear corners.

6. An apparatus of a headboard holster as claimed in claim 5 comprises,

the front corners being round; and

the rear corners being round.

7. An apparatus of a headboard holster as claimed in claim 2 comprises,

the extended bottom being fastened to the front lower side, the rear lower side, the left lower side, and the right lower side by the fastener on the storage side; and

the storage space being a recessed space defined by the extended bottom, the front panel, the rear panel, the left panel, and the right panel.

8. An apparatus of a headboard holster as claimed in claim 7 comprises,

the insert side being extended from the storage side;

the extended corners being positioned on the insert side; and

the extended corners being round.

9. An apparatus of a headboard holster as claimed in claim 1 comprises,

the left first level indentation and the right first level indentation being connected to the front first level indentation and the rear first level indentation;

the left second level indentation and the right second level indentation being connected to the front second level indentation and the rear second level indentation; and

the fastener being a fastener selected from the group consisting of adhesives, nails, screws, bolts, pegs, and pins.

10. An apparatus of a headboard holster comprises,

the extended bottom being a thin board;
