Abstract
A carrying bag is provided which is able to be fully opened on all sides so as to provide easy access, and complete visibility, as to the contents. The bag has pockets attached to the sides, with each pocket having a smaller adjacent pocket which accommodates a label denoting the intended contents of that particular pocket. The bag also has means to allow it to be hung in either a flattened or partially closed state, with stowable hooks or re-enforced holes added to the sides for this purpose.
Description
- This application claims priority of U.S. provisional patent application No. 61/378,452 filed on Aug. 31, 2010.
- Many children live in two homes and need to carry many personal items back and forth, such as toys, books, clothes, and medications. Backpacks are often used to transport these items, but the way backpacks are loaded without visibility of their contents provides inadequate protection against the possibility of items being left behind in either home.
- The subject invention provides for a bag that can be opened out flat, to reveal pockets within. Each pocket can be dedicated, and labeled with a written label, indicating the item or items carried in each pocket. Once the bag, subject of this invention, is loaded and the contents verified by labels related to each pocket, the bag can be closed with zip fasteners, velcro, or other fasteners. The bag may have carrying handles and, if required, can be hung in its flattened state or semi closed state (complete with contents) on a hook or on a closet pole, by means of the carrying handles or a stowable hook, or the bag may be hung by means of a reinforced hole in one of the open sides of the bag.
-
FIG. 1 View of bag in its flattened state. -
FIG. 2 View of bag with 3 sides closed. -
FIG. 3 View of bag fully closed. - With reference to
FIG. 1 . In a preferred embodiment there is provided abag 10 havingsides 11 around the periphery, and preferablytransparent pockets 12 attached to thesides 11. Thebag 10 can be opened out, on one or more of thesides 11, to revealpockets 12. In a second embodiment (not shown),pockets 12 may also be added to the outside ofsides 11. When all sides of thebag 10 are fully opened it can be laid out flat, with all of the inside pockets then accessible for inserting or removing items. - The
sides 11 hinge relative to thebase 13 atfolds 14, and lower part ofsides 25 further hinge relative to their uppertriangular extensions 26 atfolds 27, with thesides 11 able to be attached to theadjacent sides 11 along their edges by means of four zip fasteners, or Velcro, orother fasteners 15, said fasteners terminating atpoints 16. - The
pockets 12 may have smaller preferably transparentadjacent pockets 20 for inserting labels which identify the intended contents ofpockets 12. Thepockets 12 may also haveflaps 21 attached above theiropenings 22 withclosure devices 23, such as Velcro, attached to saidflaps 21 that allow thepockets 12 to be closed by theflaps 21. - With reference to
FIG. 1 ,bag 10 is preferably loaded and unloaded with its intended contents when it is in a flattened state. However, with reference toFIGS. 1 and 2 , it may also be loaded and unloaded with one ormore sides 11 of thebag 10 attached toadjacent sides 11 by means offasteners 15. -
Bags 10 may be made from suitable fabrics or plastics, and may be in a variety of colors. - With reference to
FIGS. 2 & 3 ,bag 10 may have one or more re-enforcedopenings 18 for hangingbag 10 vertically on a hook. Alternatively, or additionally, ahook 19 may be attached to thebag 10, for hanging thebag 10 on acloset pole 24. When not in use, hook 19 may rotate for stowage. - With reference to
FIG. 3 . Thesides 11 may have carryinghandles 17.
