Description

J. T; FisHER 4 2,011,478 SMOKING DEVICE Aug, 13, 1935.
Original Filed June 1, 1953 Inventor Patented Aug. 13, 1935 1' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application June 1, 1933, Serial No. 673,896 Renewed January 23, 1935 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a smoking device which may be used as a pipe, or
holder,
the general object of the invention a cigarette or cigar being means whereby the device can be easily and quickly cleaned.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accom- I panying .drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and
in which:-
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view showing the device in use as a pipe.
Figure 2 is a view of the spreader or damper attached to its tube.
able material.
The front or inner portion of the stem is substantially cylindrical and the rest of the stem tapers to the tip 3. The opening in the tip slightly flares inwardly so that saliva from the mouth entering the tip will flow by gravity into the stem and thus not be carried back into the mouth and this configuration of the stem wil l prevent moisture in the stem from reaching the mouth. The lining is extended beyond the front end of the part I and is exterior-- ly threaded ing 4 which 6 of the pipe.
to fit in the large part of the bushfits in the short stem 5 of the bowl The bushing is formed with a reduced neck I which is threaded in an opening in the lower part of the bowl and said neck is internally threaded to receive the threaded end of a small tube is threaded 8, to the rear end of which a collar 9 carrying a pair of oppositely arranged rods H! which support the rear end of a conical spreader or damper II. The outer face of said spreader is flat and formed with a kerf screw driver l2, as shown in Figure 3, so that a or the like can be used in placing the tube 8 in the neck I or removing it therefrom after the stem has been removed from the pipe stem.
Thus it wi can pass through the small tube 8 and as it passes through said tube, it will strike the conical part of the spreader or damper H and thus be directed toward the side of the stem so that the smoke will be cooled aftercontacting said side 5 and any moisture in the smoke will be freed therefrom and collect in the large part of the stem. Thus the smoke will reach the smokers mouth cool and dry.
By removing the stem from bowl, the interior of the stem cleaned, due to the large size of the bore and the tube 8 and the members 9, It and It can also be removed for cleaning purposes. Of course, if desired, the tube 6 and the spreader need not be used.
Figure 4 shows an attachment for thestem A, so that the stem can be used as a holder for cigarettes. This attachment consists of a body part I3, preferably of the shape shown in Figure 1, and having its small end reduced and internally threaded, as shown at 4, to receive the tube 3, if the tube and spreader are to be used, and an internally threaded sleeve i5 is attached to the large end of the body in spaced relation therefrom to receive the threaded end of the lining used with the stem. Thus by placing a cigarette in the body !3 and threading the body to the stem, said stem can be used as a cigarette holder.
Figure 5 shows an attachment E6 to be used with the stem so that the same can be used as a cigar holder. This attachment comprises a body having a large socket l1 therein for receiving the small end of the cigar and its other end is provided with a small internally threaded socket i8 for receiving the threaded end of the stem and this socket I8 is in communication with the socket ll through a small threaded bore I9 which may receive the threaded end of the tube 8 so that the tube and spreader may also be used with the device when the same is used as a cigar holder. The use of the tube and spreader, however, is optional. 7
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:-- v
A smoking device of the class described comprising a stem formed with a tip adapted to be 5 z v 2,011,478 r t received in the mouth of the user; a lining extending from the tip through the stem with its front portion projecting beyond the stem, said projecting portion being externallyscrew threaded, a member threaded in said extended part, a tube carried by said member and extending into the front part of the bore of the stem, a collar carried by the free end of said tube, a pair of oppositely arranged arms having one end connected to the collar and a conical spreader connected to the rear ends of said arms with its conical part directed forwardly.
