Description
Aug. 13, 1935. B. LJMCMILLAN BATHTUB Filed March 23, 1935 2 Sheets-Sheet l B .L M Millan Byz Attorney struction, inexpensive to incorporate in the manu- Patented Aug. 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE I BATHTUB Ben Lamont MclVIillan, Los Angeles, Calif.
Application March 23, 1935, Serial No. 12,712
1 Claim. (01. 4-173) The present invention relates to a bath tub and has for its primeobject to provide means for filling the bath tub with water in such a manner as to eliminate noise, and splashing;
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of a bath tub having the improved water intake which is simple in its confacture of a bath tub, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds,
through the tub taken substantially on the line 33 of Figurel.
Figure 4 is a vertical transverse section through the tub taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the letter T denotes generally a tub mostly of conventional form. My improvement is confined particularly to the rear wall 5 thereof. On the exterior and. at the bottom of the rear wall 5 there is provided a chamber 6 preferably formed integrally with the tub and having at its bottom an opening 1 leading into the bottom of the tub. A pair of pipes 8 communicate with the chamber 6 through the top thereof and rise upwardly to valves 9 which are connected with the hot and cold water pipes [0. Controls H for the valves 9 are provided interiorly of the tub.
The purpose of this invention resides in the provision of an improved water intake on the common form of bath tub. Instead of having the water come into the bath tub from a faucet at the top of the tub, my idea is to have the water come in from the chamber 6 at the back and at the bottom of the tub and through the slot or opening I. In this way, noise of running water and of splashing thereof is eliminated as it flows into the tub. This catch chamber also provides a mixing chamber for the hot and cold water so that the water will flow into the tub easily and without much commotion. When the water level 10 in the tub rises so as to cover the intake slot 1,
all noise is eliminated.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice, it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
In a bath tub, a rear wall merging by a curved portion into a bottom, a chamber formed exteriorly on the curved portion and having a rear wall curving eccentrically with respect thereto so as to merge downwardly theretoward into the 5 bottom, the chamber being provided with an opening at the bottom thereof leading into the tub, the chamber including an upper wall having openings, hot and cold water pipes engaged in the openings of the top wall and rising therefrom
