Abstract
A desktop cigar cutter comprises a cutting blade assembly which can pivot in and out of a cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove of a base, on the base is further provided a control assembly for engaging with the cutting blade assembly. Between the base and the cutting blade assembly is disposed an elastic assembly with both ends pushing against the base and the cutting blade assembly, respectively. When the control assembly is disengaged from the cutting blade assembly, the cutting blade assembly will be pivoted upward into a stand-up position under the effect of the pushing force of the elastic assembly.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates to a cigar cutter, and more particularly to a desktop cigar cutter.
- 2. Description of the Prior Art
- A cigar must be properly cut at both ends thereof by a cutter before being smoked. A conventional desktop cigar cutter, as shown in
FIG. 8 , normally comprises aflat base 60 with avertical portion 61 extending upward therefrom. Formed at the top of thevertical portion 61 is a cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 62, and in the middle of thevertical portion 61 is formed acutting hole 63. Ablade 70 is inserted in the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 62 and extends through thecutting hole 63, so that the ends of the cigar can be cut by pulling theblade 70 upward to expose thecutting hole 63, inserting the ends of the cigar and then pressing down theblade 70. - The
blade 70 inserting in thevertical portion 61 of theflat base 60 is relatively large and needs to be packed with a bigger package, which will cause many transportation and storage inconveniences. In addition, theblade 70 is exposed, it may attract children's attention and can be operated directly by a child, so when a child may get hurt when accidently inserting a finger into thecutting hole 63. - The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the afore-described disadvantages.
- To overcome the afore-described disadvantages, a desktop cigar cutter in accordance with the present invention comprises: a base, a control assembly, a cutting assembly, and at least one elastic assembly.
- The base is formed with a cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove and an engaging groove in communication with each other, at each of two opposite inner surfaces of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove are formed a first pivoting portion and a second pivoting portion, respectively, between the two first pivoting portions being connected a first pivot.
- The control assembly is disposed in the engaging groove of the base and comprises a control member and an elastic member, the control assembly is formed with an engaging flange with a guiding slope and is disposed in the engaging hole, the engaging flange extends to the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove, the elastic member has both ends abutted against the control member and the base, respectively, so that, in normal conditions, the control assembly is pushed against the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove.
- The cutting blade assembly is disposed in the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove of the base and provided at both sides thereof with a pivot, respectively, the cutting blade assembly is formed with an engaging groove for engaging with the engaging flange, the pivots is inserted in the second pivoting portion for enabling the cutting blade assembly to pivot in and out of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove.
- The elastic assembly is disposed at the first pivoting portion in such a manner that the elastic member has two ends pushed against the base and the cutting blade assembly, respectively.
- The primary object of the present invention is to provide a desktop cigar cutter, when not in use, the cutting blade assembly can be pivoted into the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove of the base, thus considerably reducing the size of the cigar cutter for easy storage and transportation.
- The secondary object of the present invention is to provide a desktop cigar cutter, to use cigar cutter, the user can use the control assembly to make the engaging groove of the cutting blade assembly disengage from the engaging flange of the control assembly, so that the elastic member pushes the cutting blade assembly to pivot upward out of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove and into a stand-up position. Similarly, pressing the cutting blade assembly downward and then engaging the engaging groove with the engaging flange can make the cutting blade assembly pivot downward into the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove of the base again.
- Yet, another object of the present invention is to provide a desktop cigar cutter, when not in use, the cutting blade assembly can be restricted in the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove of the base, thus protecting children from getting cut.

FIG. 8 is a perspective view of a conventional cigar cutter. - The present invention will be clearer from the following description when viewed together with the accompanying drawings, which show, for purpose of illustrations only, the preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.
- Referring to
FIGS. 1-3 , a desktop cigar cutter in accordance with the present invention comprises abase 10, acontrol assembly 20, acutting blade assembly 30 and anelastic assembly 40. - The
base 10 is formed at one end thereof with a cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 and anengaging groove 12 in communication with each other via a through hole 120 formed at one end of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11. At each of two opposite inner surfaces of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 are formed afirst pivoting portion 13 and asecond pivoting portion 14, respectively, and the first and second pivotingportions assembly receiving groove 11. Between the two first pivotingportions 13 is connected afirst pivot 130. The cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 is further formed with two receiving grooves 110 at both ends of thefirst pivot 130. Thesecond pivoting portion 14 extends downward and takes the form of a sliding groove which includes afirst end 140 and asecond end 141. Thecutting blade assembly 30 is slidable between the first andsecond ends second pivoting portion 14. In the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 is further formed a stand-up groove 111 which is located between the two second pivotingportions 14, and thecutting blade assembly 30 is inserted in stand-up groove 111 and maintained in a stand-up position when it pivots out of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11. Next to the stand-up groove 111 is disposed anabutting edge 15 which is formed with a concave portion in center thereof and located between the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 and the stand-up groove 111. In thebase 10 is further formed with anash chamber 16 which is located next to theabutting edge 15. - The
engaging groove 12 is provided with aninner stop portion 121 and anouter stop portion 122, and theinner stop portion 121 is adjacent to the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11. - The
control assembly 20 is disposed in theengaging groove 12 of thebase 10 and comprises acontrol member 21, anengaging member 22, anelastic member 23 and alocking member 24. Thecontrol member 21 is defined with anengaging hole 211. Theengaging member 22 is formed with anengaging flange 221 with a guiding slope and is disposed in theengaging hole 211 and stopped against theinner stop portion 121. Theengaging flange 221 extends to the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 via the through hole 120. Theelastic member 23 and theengaging member 22 are inserted on thelocking member 24, and then thelocking member 24 is inserted in theengaging hole 211. Theelastic member 23 has one end abutted against thecontrol member 21 and theengaging member 22 and another abutted against theouter stop portion 122 of thebase 10, so that, in normal conditions, thecontrol assembly 20 is pushed against the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11. - The
cutting blade assembly 30 is disposed in the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 of thebase 10 and comprises acover 31, a blade-mounting seat 32 and ablade 33. Thecover 31 consists of two hinged halves which define aninserting groove 311 therebetween and is formed with ancutting hole 312 which penetrating the two hinged halves and theinserting groove 311. Theblade 33 is mounted on the blade-mounting seat 32 and then movably inserted in theinserting groove 311. When sliding in thecutting hole 312, theblade 33 will move through thecutting hole 312 to cut the cigar inserted therein. Thecover 31 is provided at both sides thereof with apivot 313, respectively. The blade-mounting seat 32 is formed with anengaging groove 321 for engaging with theengaging flange 221. Thepivots 313 are inserted in the second pivotingportions 14, so that thecutting blade assembly 30 can pivot in and out of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 by pivoting around thepivots 313 and the second pivotingportions 14. - The
elastic assembly 40 includes at least oneelastic member 41 and at least one pushingrod 42 which are pivotally disposed at thefirst pivoting portion 13 in such a manner that theelastic member 41 is received in an elastic-member receiving groove 420 defined in a bottom of the pushingrod 42, and theelastic member 41 has two ends pushed against thebase 10 and the pushingrod 42, respectively, making the pushingrod 42 push against thecutting blade assembly 30, so that theelastic assembly 40 applies a push force to thecutting blade assembly 30. - When the cigar cutter is not in use, as shown in
FIGS. 1 and 3 , thecutting blade assembly 30 is pivoted into the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 of thebase 10 through the pivoting motion of thepivots 313 with respect to thefirst end 140 of thesecond pivoting portion 14 of thebase 10, meanwhile, theelastic member 41 is compressed and received in the receiving grooves 110 together with theelastic member 41, and theengaging flange 221 of thecontrol assembly 20 is engaged in theengaging groove 321 of thecutting blade assembly 30 to restrict thecutting blade assembly 30 in the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 of thebase 10. - To use cigar cutter, as shown in
FIGS. 4 and 5 , the user can press thecontrol member 21 of thecontrol assembly 20 to make theengaging groove 321 of thecutting blade assembly 30 disengage from theengaging flange 221 of thecontrol assembly 20, so that thecutting blade assembly 30 is released from restriction, meanwhile, theelastic member 41 is also released and pushes thecutting blade assembly 30 to pivot upward around the around thepivots 313 and thesecond pivoting portion 14 and into a stand-up position. Finally, as shown inFIGS. 6 and 7 , after pivoting upward into a stand-up position, thecutting blade assembly 30, under the effect of its own weight, will slide into the downward extendingsecond pivoting portion 14 and stand against theabutting edge 15, so that thecutting blade assembly 30 can stand stably to cut cigar. - With the abovementioned arrangements, the desktop cigar cutter has the following advantages:
- First, when not in use, the
cutting blade assembly 30 can be pivoted into the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 of thebase 10, thus considerably reducing the size of the cigar cutter for easy storage and transportation. - Second, to use cigar cutter, the user can use the
control assembly 20 to make theengaging groove 321 of thecutting blade assembly 30 disengage from theengaging flange 221 of thecontrol assembly 20, so that theelastic member 41 pushes thecutting blade assembly 30 to pivot upward out of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 and into a stand-up position. On the contrarily, pressing thecutting blade assembly 30 downward and then engaging the engaginggroove 321 with the engagingflange 221 can make thecutting blade assembly 30 pivot downward into the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 of the base 10 again. - Third, when not in use, the
cutting blade assembly 30 can be restricted in the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove 11 of thebase 10, thus protecting children from getting cut. - While we have shown and described various embodiments in accordance with the present invention, it is clear to those skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without departing from the scope of the present invention.
Claims (7)
1. A desktop cigar cutter comprising:
a base formed with a cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove and an engaging groove in communication with each other, at each of two opposite inner surfaces of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove being formed a first pivoting portion and a second pivoting portion, respectively, between the two first pivoting portions being connected a first pivot;
a control assembly disposed in the engaging groove of the base and comprising a control member and an elastic member, the control assembly being formed with an engaging flange with a guiding slope and disposed in the engaging hole, the engaging flange extending to the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove via a through hole formed at one end of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove, the elastic member having both ends abutted against the control member and the base, respectively, so that, in normal conditions, the control assembly is pushed against the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove;
a cutting blade assembly disposed in the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove of the base and provided at both sides thereof with a pivot, respectively, the cutting blade assembly being formed with an engaging groove for engaging with the engaging flange, the pivots being inserted in the second pivoting portion for enabling the cutting blade assembly to pivot in and out of the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove; and
at least one elastic assembly being disposed at the first pivoting portion in such a manner that the elastic member has two ends pushed against the base and the cutting blade assembly, respectively.
2. The desktop cigar cutter as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the second pivoting portion of the base extends downward to form a sliding groove.
3. The desktop cigar cutter as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the base is formed with an abutting edge which is located adjacent to the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove.
4. The desktop cigar cutter as claimed in claim 1 , wherein a stand-up groove is formed in the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove and located between the two second pivoting portions, and next to the stand-up groove is disposed an abutting edge which is located between the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove and the stand-up groove.
5. The desktop cigar cutter as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the engaging groove of the base is provided with an inner stop portion and an outer stop portion, and the inner stop portion is adjacent to the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove;
the control assembly further includes an engaging member and a locking member, the control member is defined with an engaging hole, the engaging flange is formed on the engaging member, and the engaging member is disposed in the engaging hole and stopped against the inner stopping portion, the engaging flange extends to the cutting-blade-assembly receiving groove, the elastic member and the engaging member are inserted on the locking member, and then the locking member is inserted in the engaging hole, the elastic member has one end abutted against the control member and the engaging member and another end abutted against the outer stopping portion of the base.

The desktop cigar cutter as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the cutting blade assembly comprises a cover, a blade-mounting seat and a blade, the cover is formed with an inserting groove and an inserting hole, the blade is mounted on the blade-mounting seat and then inserted in the inserting groove, the blade is inserted through the inserting hole, the pivots are provided at both sides of the cover, and the engaging groove is formed in the blade-mounting seat.
7. The desktop cigar cutter as claimed in claim 1 further comprising at least one pushing rod which is pivotally disposed at the first pivoting portion together with the elastic member in such a manner that the elastic member is received in an elastic-member receiving groove defined in a bottom of the pushing rod, and the elastic member has two ends pushed against the base and the pushing rod, respectively, making the pushing rod push against the cutting blade assembly.
