In Great Britain May 31, 1930 s claims. `(c1. 1st- 159) K 1 in the direction shown by the arrowand carries This invention relates to apparatus for deliver-v ing slivers or ribbons of flax, hemp, jute, or other y like fibres into sliver cans or other similar receptacles hereinafter called sliver cans. When a sliver can has been filled, or a predetermined quantity of sliver has been delivered to it, itis cutstomary for the attendant to removethe full or partly filled can and replace it by an empty one. Y
According to this invention two sliver cans are used in conjunction with each delivery roller or pair of delivery rollers and means are Vprovided for automatically changing the delivery of the `sliver from one can to the Vother when one can has been filled, or when a predetermined length of sliver has been delivered to it without movaforesaid means maybe combined with an indication device, such for example, as a bell mechanism, or with any other appropriate form of measuring motion.
In carrying out the invention a' conductor or spout may be pivotally mounted on a stud suitl ably arranged in relation to the delivery rollers and beprovided with an arm or lever which may be connected to the mechanism of abell or other measuring motionV which will at the correct instant rock the conductor or spout from its position over one sliver canto a corresponding position over the other sliver can thereby transferring the delivery of the sliver from one can to the other.
In the accompanying drawings:-
Fig. 1 is a front elevation, and
Fig. 2 a side elevation partly in'section of a1 nected by a link c2X carried in a bracket D. Fixed to the spindle CSX is a bevel pinion c4 that gears with a bevel wheel c5 having 42 teeth with which is rigidly connected a star or ratchet wheel c5 Ahaving six teeth. Engaging with the latter is a pawl c'I pivoted on one arm cs of a Weighted lever o9 from which projects a lateral rib or ledge c1. c11 indicates a bell wheel which revolves slowly The a projecting pin cl2. As this bell Wheel revolves its pin cl2 passes under the rib or ledge C10 on the weighted lever c9 and lifts the latter so that the pawl crl moves back behindone of the teeth on the Wheel c6. After the lever has been lifted to enable the pawl' c7 to drop behind the tooth the pin cl2 travels past the free end of the rib or ledge clo thereby allowing the weighted lever e9 to fall and cause the pawl c" to rotate thestar wheel c6 through the space of one tooth, which is Y one sixth of a revolution, with the result that the bevel pinion c4 and-crank arm c3 make half a revolution each time the bell wheel C11 makes one complete revolution and allows the weighted lever o9 to drop back against the stop cl3. By this arrangement each time the bell wheel cll completes a revolution and a can is filled with the sliver the condenser or spout is rockedV at the correct instant from -its position over one sliver can to a corresponding position over the other one and so transferring the delivery of the sliver from a full can to the other. i
By reference to Fig. 5 the operating means of the two armed lever c is seen.v The bevel wheel c4 is xed on .the pinwc3x `and a crank arm c3 is fixed on the bottom of said pin. The crank arm c3 has a pin 04X rigidly fixed in its free end. One end of the link c2X is pivotally attached to the pin c4 and the other end of the link is pivotallyconnected to the free end c2 of the double armed lever c. Inasmuch as the crank arm c3 is a great deal shorter than the link 02X, it may make arcomplete revolution, (see Fig. 6)
'without bringing the end c2 of the double armed lever into Contact with the spindle D. As the link 02X is attached to the underside of the free end of the crank arm c3 it passes beneath the lower end of the pin 03X as the assembly rotates.
What I claim as my invention and desire to 1 secure by Letters Patent in the United States isz- 1. In apparatus for delivering slivers into sliver cans wherein two sliver cans are used in conjunction` with each delivery roller or pair of delivery rollers, the combination of a conductor or spout, a two-armed lever having one arm rigidly secured to the conductor or spout, a link pivoted at one end to the other arm of the twoarmed lever, a rotatable shaft, a crank arm fixed to the lower end of said shaft and pivotally connected to the other end' of the aforesaid link,
la bevel pinion rigidly fixed on the upper end of the rotatable shaft, a bevelwheel gearing with said bevel pinion, a star wheel rigidly connected with said bevel wheel, a second two-armed lever pivotally mounted in relation to said star wheel and carrying on one arm a pawl adapted to gear with the star wheel and on the other arm a weight and a laterally projecting rib or ledge, a slowly revolving wheel carrying a laterally projecting pin to engage the lateral rib or ledge on the weighted arm to actuate the latter to cause the pawl to rotate the star wheel through the space of one tooth and cause the bevel pinion to make half a revolution each time therslowly rotating wheel makes one complete revolution and so rock the spout at the correct instant from its position over one sliver can to a corresponding position over the other one and so transfer the delivery of the sliver from a full can to an empty one. Y
2. In an apparatus for delivering slivers into sliver cans wherein two sliver cans are used in conjunction with delivery means, the combination of a conductor, a two-armed lever having one arm connected to said conductor, a link hinged at one end to the other arm of the lever, a rotatable shaft, a crank arm xeol to the lower end of said shaft and pivotally connected to the other end of said link, and means for operating said lever for changing the position of the conductor in relation to the delivery means whereby 10 delivery of slivers to an empty can after one can 15 has been lled.
