Definitions
- This present invention relates to converting a loop interface cushion pad designed originally for machine sanding only so that it can be used also for manual sanding by hand.
- Manual sanding by hand can be performed using an abrasive material, such as sheets or discs, using the hand to move the abrasive material with pressure over a surface to be abraded, which creates a scratch pattern. Due to the uneven pressure point from fingers or palm of the hand, this method could result in a non-uniform finish.
- an abrasive material such as sheets or discs
- an interface cushion pad is to create a pressure-absorbing layer between the motion force and the abrasive material that will then allow the abrasive material to create a uniform and shallow scratch pattern.
- Universal Interface Pad Conversion Band By using the “Universal Interface Pad Conversion Band”, one can convert any existing interface cushion pad (as long as it has a velour (loop) backing surface) for manual sanding purpose also.
- a stretchable band comprised of woven elastic material and small strips of hook surface (hook and loop) permanently affixed on one side of both ends of the band. Its purpose is to convert any interface cushion pad with velour (loop) backing surface to become both machine and manual sanding capable.
- Such loop interface cushion pad was originally designed for machine sanding only and now can also be used for manual sanding by hand.
- FIG. 1 shows a bottom view of the invention.
- the bottom of the elastic band has two pieces of hook surface on either end of the strip designed to temporarily fasten to the velour (loop) side of an existing interface cushion pad.
- FIG. 2 shows the top view of the invention.
- FIG. 3 shows an elevation view of the invention.
- the hook surface is permanently affixed to the bottom of the band on both ends by either using an adhesive or by sewing.
- FIG. 4 illustrates the invention's flexibility.
- FIG. 5 shows the strap attached to an existing interface cushion pad.
- This invention is a stretchable band comprised of a strip of woven elastic, cut to the length (or diameter) of the interface cushion pad.
- the elastic is cut and sealed on the edges to avoid fraying of the elastic strip.
- Two pieces of hook material are permanently fastened to the elastic strip on either end through the use of an adhesive (or sewn) on the back surface.
- This invention converts velour (Loop) backing surface interface cushion pad originally designed only for machine sanding to be used also for manual hand sanding.
Abstract
The “Universal Interface Pad Conversion Band” is a stretchable band that can convert any interface cushion pad with velour (loop) backing surface to be possible for manual sanding by hand. Such interface cushion pad was originally designed only for machine sanding only.

- (1) Field of the Invention
- This present invention relates to converting a loop interface cushion pad designed originally for machine sanding only so that it can be used also for manual sanding by hand.
- (2) Description of Related Art
- Manual sanding by hand can be performed using an abrasive material, such as sheets or discs, using the hand to move the abrasive material with pressure over a surface to be abraded, which creates a scratch pattern. Due to the uneven pressure point from fingers or palm of the hand, this method could result in a non-uniform finish.
- The purpose of an interface cushion pad is to create a pressure-absorbing layer between the motion force and the abrasive material that will then allow the abrasive material to create a uniform and shallow scratch pattern.
By using the “Universal Interface Pad Conversion Band”, one can convert any existing interface cushion pad (as long as it has a velour (loop) backing surface) for manual sanding purpose also. - A stretchable band comprised of woven elastic material and small strips of hook surface (hook and loop) permanently affixed on one side of both ends of the band. Its purpose is to convert any interface cushion pad with velour (loop) backing surface to become both machine and manual sanding capable. Such loop interface cushion pad was originally designed for machine sanding only and now can also be used for manual sanding by hand.
-
FIG. 1 shows a bottom view of the invention. The bottom of the elastic band has two pieces of hook surface on either end of the strip designed to temporarily fasten to the velour (loop) side of an existing interface cushion pad. -
FIG. 2 shows the top view of the invention. -
FIG. 3 shows an elevation view of the invention. The hook surface is permanently affixed to the bottom of the band on both ends by either using an adhesive or by sewing. -
FIG. 4 illustrates the invention's flexibility. -
FIG. 5 shows the strap attached to an existing interface cushion pad. - This invention is a stretchable band comprised of a strip of woven elastic, cut to the length (or diameter) of the interface cushion pad. The elastic is cut and sealed on the edges to avoid fraying of the elastic strip. Two pieces of hook material are permanently fastened to the elastic strip on either end through the use of an adhesive (or sewn) on the back surface. This invention converts velour (Loop) backing surface interface cushion pad originally designed only for machine sanding to be used also for manual hand sanding.
Claims (1)
1. A stretchable band comprised of woven elastic material and small strips of hook surface (hook and loop) permanently affixed on one side of both ends of the band. Its purpose is to convert any interface cushion pad with velour (loop) backing surface to become both machine and manual sanding capable.
a. Such loop interface cushion pad was originally designed for machine sanding only and now can also be used for manual sanding by hand.
