Abstract
A mounting apparatus includes a chassis, a first securing plate, a second securing plate, and a locking member. The first securing plate is secured to the chassis and defines a through hole. The second securing plate is secured to the chassis and defines a slot. The locking member is located between the first and second securing plates, configured for securing a heat dissipating member. The operating piece is located on the locking member and resiliently deformable. A protrusion is located on the operating piece engaged in the through hole of first securing plate. A positioning tab is located on the locking member engaged in the slot of the second securing plate.
Description
- 1. Technical Field
- The present disclosure relates to a mounting apparatus for securing a heat dissipating member to a chassis.
- 2. Description of Related Art
- In a server, a plurality of fans is often used. So, a mounting apparatus for conveniently securing the fans is needed.
- Many aspects of the embodiments can be better understood with references to the following drawings. The components in the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the embodiments. Moreover, in the drawings, like reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

FIG. 1 is an exploded, cutaway view of a mounting apparatus and a heat dissipating member in accordance with an embodiment. -

FIG. 7 is similar toFIG. 6 , but viewed from another aspect. - The disclosure is illustrated by way of example and not by way of limitation in the figures of the accompanying drawings in which like references indicate similar elements. It should be noted that references to “an” or “one” embodiment in this disclosure are not necessarily to the same embodiment, and such references mean at least one.
- Referring to
FIG. 1 , a mounting apparatus in accordance with one embodiment is configured for securing aheat dissipating member 10. Theheat dissipating member 10 includes twofans 12. A plurality ofmounting holes 122 is defined in eachfan 12. The mounting apparatus includes achassis 20 and alocking member 50. - The
chassis 20 includes abottom plate 22 and twoopposite side plates 24 located on thebottom plate 22. Afirst securing plate 30 and asecond securing plate 40 are secured to thebottom plate 22 between theside plates 24. Afirst ventilation hole 32 is defined in thefirst securing plate 30. Two first throughopenings 35 are defined in thefirst securing plate 30 above thefirst ventilation hole 32. Afirst securing piece 34 is located on a vertical edge of each first through opening 35. Referring toFIG. 2 , afirst guide tab 342 is slanted and located on a top end of each first securingpiece 34. A throughhole 36 is defined between thefirst securing pieces 34 above thefirst ventilation hole 32. Asecond ventilation hole 42 is defined in the secondsecuring plate 40. Two second throughopenings 45 are defined in the secondsecuring plate 40 above thesecond ventilation hole 42. A secondsecuring piece 44 is located on a vertical edge of each second through opening 45. Referring toFIG. 1 , asecond guide tab 442 is slanted and is located on a top end of each second securingpiece 44. Aslot 46 is defined in a top edge of the secondsecuring plate 40 between the secondsecuring pieces 44 above thesecond ventilation hole 42. In one embodiment, theside plates 24 are substantially perpendicular to thebottom plate 22, and the first andsecond securing plates bottom plate 22 and theside plates 24. - The
locking member 50 includes atop wall 52, afirst sidewall 54, asecond sidewall 56, and two third sidewalls 59 (only one is shown inFIGS. 1-5 ). The first, second, andthird sidewalls top wall 52. Referring toFIG. 3 , a first receivingopening 522 is defined in thetop wall 52 and extends to thefirst sidewall 54. Twocutouts 526 are defined in thetop wall 52 and thethird sidewalls 59, for conveniently gripping thetop wall 52 when thelocking member 50 is moved. A resilientlydeformable operating piece 542 extends from a bottom edge of the first receivingopening 522. Aprotrusion 544 is located on an outer surface of theoperating piece 542, for engaging in the throughhole 36 of the firstsecuring plate 30. Twofirst locking pieces 546 extend from a bottom edge of thefirst sidewall 54. Afirst locking hole 548 is defined in eachfirst locking piece 546. Apositioning tab 562 is located on an outer surface of thesecond sidewall 56, for engaging in theslot 46 of the secondsecuring plate 40. Twosecond locking pieces 566 extend from a bottom edge of thesecond sidewall 56. Asecond locking hole 568 is defined in eachsecond locking hole 568. - Referring to
FIGS. 4-5 , in assembly, thelocking member 50 is placed on theheat dissipating member 10. The first andsecond locking holes mounting holes 122 of theheat dissipating member 10. Twomounting posts 70 are inserted into the first andsecond locking holes corresponding mounting holes 122, to secure theheat dissipating member 10 to thelocking member 50. Referring toFIGS. 6-7 , thelocking member 50 and theheat dissipating member 10 are inserted between the first andsecond securing plates first sidewall 54 is adjacent thefirst securing plate 30, and thesecond sidewall 56 is adjacent thesecond securing plate 40. Thelocking member 50 and theheat dissipating member 10 are inserted between thefirst securing pieces 34 and between the second securingpieces 44 by the first andsecond guide tabs protrusion 544 is pressed by the firstsecuring plate 30 to resiliently deform theoperating piece 542 towards thesecond sidewall 56. Thepositioning tab 562 is inserted into theslot 46. When theprotrusion 544 is aligned with the throughhole 36 of thefirst securing plate 30, theoperating piece 542 rebounds to engage theprotrusion 544 in the throughhole 36 and secures thelocking member 50 and theheat dissipating member 10 between the first andsecond securing plates - In disassembly, the
operating piece 542 is resiliently deformed towards thesecond sidewall 56, to disengage theprotrusion 544 from the throughhole 36 of thefirst securing plate 30. Thelocking member 50 and theheat dissipating member 10 are pulled from between the first andsecond securing plates - It is to be understood, however, that even though numerous characteristics and advantages have been set forth in the foregoing description of embodiments, together with details of the structures and functions of the embodiments, the disclosure is illustrative only and changes may be made in detail, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the disclosure to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
Claims (15)
1. A mounting apparatus comprising:
a chassis;
a first securing plate secured to the chassis and defining a through hole;
a second securing plate secured to the chassis and defining a slot; and
a locking member located between the first and second securing plates, configured for securing a heat dissipating member; an operating piece is located on the locking member;
the operating piece is resiliently deformable; a protrusion is located on the operating piece engaged in the through hole; and a positioning tab is located on the locking member engaged in the slot of the second securing plate.
2. The mounting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the chassis comprises a bottom plate; and the first and second securing plates are substantially parallel to each other and perpendicular to the bottom plate.
3. The mounting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the locking member comprises a first sidewall and a second sidewall opposite to the first sidewall, the operating piece is located on the first sidewall, and the positioning tab is located on the second sidewall.
4. The mounting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein two first securing pieces are located on the first securing plate, and the locking member is positioned between the two first securing pieces.
5. The mounting apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the through hole is defined between the two first securing pieces; and the first securing plate defines a ventilation hole below the through hole.
6. The mounting apparatus of claim 4 , wherein a first guide tab is located on each of the two first securing pieces and capable of directing the locking member to insert between the two first securing pieces.
7. The mounting apparatus of claim 1 , wherein two second securing pieces are located on the second securing plate, and the locking member is positioned between the two second securing pieces.
8. The mounting apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the slot is defined in edge of the second securing plate between the two second securing pieces, and the second securing plate defines a ventilation hole below the slot.
9. The mounting apparatus of claim 7 , wherein a second guide tab is located on each of the two second securing pieces and capable of directing the locking member to insert between the two second securing pieces.
10. A mounting apparatus comprising:
a chassis comprising a bottom plate and two opposite side plates located on the bottom plate, the two opposite side plates are substantially parallel to each other and perpendicular to the bottom plate;
a first securing plate secured to the bottom plate and defining a through hole, and the first securing plate is substantially perpendicular to the bottom plate and the two opposite side plates;
a second securing plate secured to the bottom plate, and the second securing plate is substantially perpendicular to the bottom plate and the two opposite side plates; and
a locking member configured for securing a heat dissipating member; the locking member is located between the first and second securing plates; an operating piece is located on the locking member; the operating piece is resiliently deformable; and a protrusion is located on the operating piece engaged in the through hole of first securing plate;
wherein two securing pieces extend from one of the first and second securing plates, and the locking member is located between the two securing pieces.
11. The mounting apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the second securing plate defines a slot; and a positioning tab is located on the locking member and engaged in the slot.
12. The mounting apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the locking member comprises a first sidewall and a second sidewall opposite to the first sidewall, the operating piece is located on the first sidewall, and the positioning tab is located on the second sidewall.
13. The mounting apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the two securing pieces are substantially perpendicular to the first and second securing plates and parallel to the two opposite side plates.
14. The mounting apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first securing plate defines a ventilation hole below the two securing pieces.
15. The mounting apparatus of claim 10 , wherein a guide tab is located on each of the two securing pieces and capable of directing the locking member to insert between the two securing pieces.
