It should be noted that references to “an” or “one” embodiment in this disclosure are not necessarily to the same embodiment, and such references mean at least one.
  • Referring to FIG. 1, a mounting apparatus in accordance with one embodiment is configured for securing a heat dissipating member 10. The heat dissipating member 10 includes two fans 12. A plurality of mounting holes 122 is defined in each fan 12. The mounting apparatus includes a chassis 20 and a locking member 50.
  • The chassis 20 includes a bottom plate 22 and two opposite side plates 24 located on the bottom plate 22. A first securing plate 30 and a second securing plate 40 are secured to the bottom plate 22 between the side plates 24. A first ventilation hole 32 is defined in the first securing plate 30. Two first through openings 35 are defined in the first securing plate 30 above the first ventilation hole 32. A first securing piece 34 is located on a vertical edge of each first through opening 35. Referring to FIG. 2, a first guide tab 342 is slanted and located on a top end of each first securing piece 34. A through hole 36 is defined between the first securing pieces 34 above the first ventilation hole 32. A second ventilation hole 42 is defined in the second securing plate 40. Two second through openings 45 are defined in the second securing plate 40 above the second ventilation hole 42. A second securing piece 44 is located on a vertical edge of each second through opening 45. Referring to FIG. 1, a second guide tab 442 is slanted and is located on a top end of each second securing piece 44. A slot 46 is defined in a top edge of the second securing plate 40 between the second securing pieces 44 above the second ventilation hole 42. In one embodiment, the side plates 24 are substantially perpendicular to the bottom plate 22, and the first and second securing plates 30 and 40 are both substantially perpendicular to the bottom plate 22 and the side plates 24.
  • The locking member 50 includes a top wall 52, a first sidewall 54, a second sidewall 56, and two third sidewalls 59 (only one is shown in FIGS. 1-5). The first, second, and third sidewalls 54, 56 and 59 are located on adjacent edges of the top wall 52. Referring to FIG. 3, a first receiving opening 522 is defined in the top wall 52 and extends to the first sidewall 54. Two cutouts 526 are defined in the top wall 52 and the third sidewalls 59, for conveniently gripping the top wall 52 when the locking member 50 is moved. A resiliently deformable operating piece 542 extends from a bottom edge of the first receiving opening 522. A protrusion 544 is located on an outer surface of the operating piece 542, for engaging in the through hole 36 of the first securing plate 30. Two first locking pieces 546 extend from a bottom edge of the first sidewall 54. A first locking hole 548 is defined in each first locking piece 546. A positioning tab 562 is located on an outer surface of the second sidewall 56, for engaging in the slot 46 of the second securing plate 40. Two second locking pieces 566 extend from a bottom edge of the second sidewall 56. A second locking hole 568 is defined in each second locking hole 568.
  • Referring to FIGS. 4-5, in assembly, the locking member 50 is placed on the heat dissipating member 10. The first and second locking holes 548 and 568 are aligned with the mounting holes 122 of the heat dissipating member 10. Two mounting posts 70 are inserted into the first and second locking holes 548 and 568 and corresponding mounting holes 122, to secure the heat dissipating member 10 to the locking member 50. Referring to FIGS. 6-7, the locking member 50 and the heat dissipating member 10 are inserted between the first and second securing plates 30 and 40. The first sidewall 54 is adjacent the first securing plate 30, and the second sidewall 56 is adjacent the second securing plate 40. The locking member 50 and the heat dissipating member 10 are inserted between the first securing pieces 34 and between the second securing pieces 44 by the first and second guide tabs 342 and 442. The protrusion 544 is pressed by the first securing plate 30 to resiliently deform the operating piece 542 towards the second sidewall 56. The positioning tab 562 is inserted into the slot 46. When the protrusion 544 is aligned with the through hole 36 of the first securing plate 30, the operating piece 542 rebounds to engage the protrusion 544 in the through hole 36 and secures the locking member 50 and the heat dissipating member 10 between the first and second securing plates 30 and 40.
  • In disassembly, the operating piece 542 is resiliently deformed towards the second sidewall 56, to disengage the protrusion 544 from the through hole 36 of the first securing plate 30. The locking member 50 and the heat dissipating member 10 are pulled from between the first and second securing plates 30 and 40.
  • It is to be understood, however, that even though numerous characteristics and advantages have been set forth in the foregoing description of embodiments, together with details of the structures and functions of the embodiments, the disclosure is illustrative only and changes may be made in detail, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the disclosure to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
