- The present invention pertains to the field of baby accessories, and more specifically to the field of garments worn by baby caregivers, especially hospital nurseries and infant day care centers.
- The prior art has put forth 0078 several designs for garments to be worn by baby caregivers. Among these are:
- U.S. Pat. No. 4,710,979 to Bull and Shupert describes a mother's apron or bib with detachable multi-colored two-dimensional infant toys to aid supervised baby play.
- U.S. Pat. No. 5,960,471 to Burton describes a protective garment for use with feeding, burping, nursing and changing diapers of a baby.

- None of these prior art references describe the present invention.
- It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved garment for use by a caregiver of a baby, newborn to any age.
-
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the garment of the present invention, and side ties. -
FIG. 2 is a close up of the shoulder section of the garment of the present invention showing the Velcro™ for attaching removable burping towels. A burping towel affixed by Velcro can easily be worn on either shoulder, to promote a clean and sanitary towel and to be easily removed for laundering and replaced with a clean towel. The use of the Velcro will prevent the towel from easily falling off the shoulder, for the caregiver's convenience. -
FIG. 3 is a close up view of the front oversized pockets of the garment of the present invention. These two oversized, large, deep pockets, with stretch stitching are used for expansion to hold large or several items, that will not easily fall out. - In caring for a baby, an arsenal of equipment must always be kept on hand in order to keep a baby both comfortable and happy. A never-ending supply of disposable or cloth diapers, ointment and wipes, ensure that a baby's tender bottom is kept clean, dry and free of irritating and painful diaper rash. Fresh bottles of milk or sippy cups of juice and water must be stored within easy reach to satisfy an infant's empty belly or quench a toddler's thirst. A fresh towel to provide a sanitary surface on which the child can be burped following a feeding must be constantly worn on the shoulder, particularly if a child is prone to spitting up. The towel is attached by Velcro and is easily removed when soiled, and replaced with a fresh clean towel that can be worn on either shoulder that will not fall off, for convenience. A baby monitor is also crucial, placed within easy reach so that a parent can monitor their napping child. Hard teething biscuits and cold teething rings massage sore gums and can calm a crying baby suffering through the onset of first teeth, while small toys, rattles, or a special blanket can entertain and comfort a cranky child.
- Unfortunately, finding adequate and easily accessed storage for these many items can be extremely challenging, particularly as new parents are constantly on the go, and can use an extra hand.
- Recognizing the need for a lightweight and easily accessible means of transporting the items needed to care for an infant child, the present invention, hereinafter referred to the Baby Carry All Smock was developed. As the name implies, the Baby Carry All Smock is a specially designed bib style apron boasting a variety of oversized, large pockets, pouch style in which a wide array of baby goods can be easily stored and readily accessed, without falling out.
- Fabricated of double stitched and reinforced, machine washable cloth material, the Baby Carry All Smock is similar in appearance to traditional smock-style aprons and as such is comprised of a one piece tailored panel designed to encompass the chest and back, falling slightly below the natural waist and comfortably above the top of the upper thigh, long enough to hold supplies in the pockets. This unique smock also features a one-piece neck band and matching fabric ties at the waist, for a comfortable fit.
- Produced in a one size fits all standard, the Baby Carry All Smock can be produced in an array of colors, patterns and printed designs. This invention also features decorative embellishments such as fancy embroidery and beads, transforming this utilitarian garment into a stylish accessory. As mentioned, a novel aspect of the Baby Carry All Smock is found in the various storage pockets and holders incorporated into the design of the unit. Positioned on either shoulder of the Baby Carry All Smock are Velcro for use in securing cushiony soft burping towels, included for sale with the unit and extra towels sold separately. This feature is designed for both utilitarian and safety purposes, as parents can rest assured that their child's head does not rest directly on the shoulder of one's normal clothing or garment, but rather on a fresh and sanitary towel instead, secured in place and easily removed when soiled.
- Oversized, deep pockets are positioned on each hip of the garment, enabling the user to store and access such items as a baby monitor, wipes, diapers or small toys, baby bottles, teething rings or other infant accessories. Use of the stretch stitching allows the pockets to expand and hold tight so items do not fall out easily when bending down. As can be imagined, potential uses for the Baby Carry All Smock are virtually limitless.
- Use of the Baby Carry All Smock is very simple and straightforward. First, the user purchases the Baby Carry All Smock in the desired color or design. Once purchased the user simply fills the various pockets and pouches with items needed for the day's activities. By way of example, hospital caregivers, nursery schools and new mothers fill the various oversized pouches with baby supplies such as teething rings, baby bottles, cell phones, monitors, medicines, diapers, baby wipes and powder, and unlimited items. The user then secures a fresh burping towel to either of the smock's shoulders by way of the corresponding Velcro found on the top of either shoulder panel and underside of the towel, respectively. The user then simply dons the smock, slipping the neck band over their head and securing the ties comfortably on each side. As needed, the user retrieves items from the Baby Carry All Smock, refilling the oversized pockets as deemed necessary. The Baby Carry All Smock can be worn as long as desired, at which point it will be removed, and if necessary laundered before being stored away until again needed. The Velcro held burping towels can be easily removed for a clean towel every time it becomes soiled, and conveniently remains on the shoulder without falling off.
- The Baby Carry All Smock is a unique product invention which offers consumers a number of significant benefits and advantages. Foremost, the Baby Carry All Smock provides new parents, hospital caregivers, nurseries and schools a simple and efficient means of easily storing and accessing a wide variety of infant supplies needed throughout the course of a busy day. Parents, nurseries and schools appreciate that the Baby Carry All Smock enables them to efficiently store the various tools necessary to care for a newborn to a small child, ensuring that items such as monitors, medicines, diapers, baby wipes, bottles and similar baby accessories are always right at one's fingertips. Providing ample oversized storage for several items and baby monitors, use of the Baby Carry All Smock enables parents, caregivers, nurseries and schools, and nannies to safely monitor a child who has been laid down for a nap or was playing contentedly in a crib or playpen, while they themselves leave the room to attend to other children or household tasks and have the monitor on their person at all times. Importantly, the inclusion of easily attached burping towels affords a fresh and sanitary surface on which the child can be burped. Ensuring that the child is not directly placed on the user's clothing, use of the Baby Carry All Smock effectively prevents the spread of germs and bacteria associated with the child coming into direct contact with a soiled garment, such as smokers, ones hair with perfume, one who may work in an environment that their clothing may have particles on it that would adversely effect a newborn's skin, face and mouth. The removable burping towel is extremely effective to protect the babies' face and mouth from germs, etc.
- Well suited for wear by new moms and dads, the Baby Carry All Smock especially appeals to day care workers, hospital employees, nannies, Montessori schools, nurseries and other child care providers.
- Another feature of the present invention is that it focuses on providing a germ free environment in hospital nurseries. Our hospital nursery attendants can assure new parents that by wearing this new type smock of the present invention, their newborn babies' face and mouth will never at any time be laid upon one's normal uniform where perhaps several babies have laid their face and mouth, babies that may have a contagious disease as yet unknown to the hospital. Due to the replaceable burping towel, the present invention provides a safe and secure reason to use the smock of the present invention in hospital nurseries to insure a germ free clean towel on the shoulder of each baby laid upon it.
- Manufactured of lightweight, yet durable material, the Baby Carry All Smock is completely comfortable to wear. Quality constructed and machine washable, these innovatively designed smocks and burping towels will provide years of reliable use.
- Offering consumers attractive, functional smocks with which to store a wide variety of baby goods neatly and efficiently, the Baby Carry All Smock is a practical product concept which serves a variety of useful applications. Versatile in function and comfortable to wear, these unique smocks will greatly appeal to a wide variety of consumers, especially hospital nursery caregivers.
- Additionally, the smock of the present invention can be used in areas such as: gardening, art, school teachers, restaurant personnel, and many, many uses.
- Although this invention has been described with respect to specific embodiments, it is not intended to be limited thereto and various modifications which will become apparent to the person of ordinary skill in the art are intended to fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as described herein taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and the appended claims.
