My invention relates to belt fastenings and has for its object to provide a device by means of which the belt of a garment may be properly supported with respect thereto.

. An object of the invention resides in providing a device by means of which the belt may be supported without the use of loops or similar supports.

A still further object of the invention resides in constructing the belt with complemental buckle members and in supporting the belt from the garment through one of said buckle members.

An object of the invention resides in providing a fastener comprising two parts, one secured to the garment and the other to one of said buckle members. 1

Another object of the invention resides in constructing the buckle members so that the same are rotated through an angle about a given axis in the disengagement or engagement thereof.

A feature of the invention resides in disposing the fastener in proximity to the axis of the rotation of the buckle members.

An object of the invention resides in constructing the fastener with two parts swivelly connected together.

Another object of the invention resides in arranging the parts so that the axis of rotation of the buckle members'coincides with the axis of swivelling of the fastener.

An object of the invention resides in constructing the buckle members with frames having slots therein to form bars extending across the frame and to which the ends of the belt are attached.

Another object of the invention resides in constructing said frames with extensions and in attaching to one of said extensions a stud having a flattened head thereon and in forming in the other extension an elongated slot adapted to receive said head.

An object of the invention resides in constructing the fasteners with a socketed member and a button adapted to enter the socketed member and in securing the socketed member to the extension cf the first named buckle frame through the stud attached thereto.

Other objects of the invention reside in the novel combination and arrangement of parts and. in the details of construction hereinafter illus-- trated and/or described.

In certain types of garments which utilize a drop seat and employ two belt members for closing the drop seat, considerable inconvenience and annoyance is occasioned to the wearer from failure of the belt members to remain in position due to the fact that such belt members cannot be threaded through loops secured tothe garment, thereby having the belt substantially unsupported throughout the length thereof. The present invention forms a simple and practical device whereby the belt may be supported in the front thereof solely through a buckle and whereby a the belt may be detached from the body of the garment when the occasion requires.

For the purpose of illustrating the application of my invention, I have shown in Fig. 1 an ordinary childs garment A which consists of a jacket H3 and pants it connected therewith. These parts will now be more fully described.

The jacket it comprises a back l2 and front portions 83 and Hi open at the center of the front of the garment and arranged in overlapping relation to form a placket l5 extending vertically of the garment. The two portions I 3 and M of the front of the garment may be secured together through buttons is in the customary manner. The jacket Iii of the garment further comprises a collar 51 and sleeves l8 and 19 secured to the body of the garment.

The pants 5 l of garment A consists of two pants legs 23 and 2! which are sewed together along the edges 22 thereof and which are connected together to form a crotch 23. The forward portions of the legs 2% and 2! form a continuation of the front portions i3 and I4 of the jacket l0 and are normally open and are provided with a placket 24 which forms a continuation of the placket E5 of jacket iii. At the rear of the pants is provided a drop seat 25 which is free from the seam .22 at the upper end thereof as designated at 25 and which when lowered, serves the usual purpose. To the upper ends of the drop seat 25 are connected two

27 and 28 which are secured directly to the drop seat or which may be secured to the garment proper and threaded through suitable loops on the drop seat as is now common practice. The forward ends 30 and 3| of the belt are secured together through a belt buckle B in which the invention resides. This part of the invention will now be described in detail.

The buckle B as best shown in Figs. 2 and 3, consists of two

32 and 33, which buckle members are constructed with frames 34 substantially identical in construction. The frames 34 are rectangular in form, being provided with three

32 and 33 are formed with extensions ts and M which project outwardly from the frames 3% and which are adapted to overlie one another as shown in Fig. 2 when the buckle is in buckled position. The extension 45 has issuing outwardly from it a stud 32 which is constructed with a shank it and an elongated head M at the outer end thereof. The head M is of a Width substantially equal to the diameter of the shank 2-3 and is of a length considerably greater than said shank to form shoulders 15 on the underside of the head facing the frame 3 5 of buckle member In the extension it of buckle member 32 is formed an elongated eye 46 which is of such dimensions as to freely receive the head it of buckle member M whereby the said stud may be extended into the eye Q6. The head at extends transversely of the belt member 2i while the eye 46 extends longitudinally with respect to said belt member.

In the use of the device the two

32 and 33 are turned at an angle of degrees with respect to one another as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, which brings the head as and eye 46 into register. Thereafter the head M of stud 2 may be forced through the eye and the eye d5 caused to engage shank 43 of the stud 42. When so disposed the buckle member 32. may rotate about the axis of the stud 52 to bring the parts into the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2. When it is desired to disengage the buckle members from one another the

32 and 33 are rotated about the axis of stud 32 until the said buckle members assume the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. While so disposed the parts of the buckle members may be separated from one another in the reverse manner.

In conjunction with the buckle member 33 I employ a snap fastener t? best shown in Fig. 3. This snap fastener comprises a button 48 which cooperates with a ring like spring 39 carried in a socketed member 55. Member 5%! is formed with an inwardly facing groove 5! in which the spring 39 is inserted and which is of such dimensions to permit the spring ts to expand sufficiently to bring the two parts of the fastener into engagement. The button Q8 has a conical part 53 at the free edge thereof which is adapted to extend into the socketed member 56 and to spring the ends of the spring 39 apart and is further formed with a hollow Ell in the end $3 thereof. Spring 49 being retained within the groove 55 holds the

59 and 48 detachably secured to one another.

The fastener member 58 has a flange 54 issuing outwardly therefrom which is adapted to seat upon the portion of the garment to which the fastener is to be attached. In the drawing I have shown said button as attached to the portion l4 of the garment A in close proximity to the edge of the placket E5 of the garment. This is accomplished by means of a tubular rivet 55 at tached to both the body of the garment and the button 15. This rivet is constructed with a flange 5'! seated against the other surface of the por-- tion of the cloth forming the body of the garment proper and is further constructed with a tubular stern 5i which is fast on the flange 5'5 of said rivet. Stem 65 passes through the body of the garment and through the end 63 of bottom 18 and the end of said stem is upset within the hollow 6% of said button to hold the button securely attached to the garment.

The fastener member 5b is secured to the buckle member 33 in the following manner. The end of shank 43 of stud is reduced in diameter as designated at 58. This reduced portion of the shank extends through the extension iii of buckle member 33 and also through the center of the member 553. The extreme end 59 of shank 58 is headed to hold the said socketed member attached to the buckle member.

As will be noted from the drawing the axis of rotation of the two

32 and 33 coincides with the axis of the stud 52. Likewise the axis about which the two parts 68 and 19 of the fastener swivel, coincides with the axis of the stud 52. By means of this construction the fastener may be secured to the garment and the two ends of the buckle readily rotated with respect to the fastener member to permit of the application of the two fastening members to one another for the purpose of permitting of the assembly r or disassembly of said parts.

In the use of the invention the drop seat is manipulated in the customary manner. When the same is desired to be closed the two strap members 2? and 23 are drawn forwardly. Member 27 which carries the stud s2 is first secured to the garment by applying the socketed member 50 to the button As the spring is is forced over the extreme end of the button 38, said spring yields and the two parts of the fastener snap together. After the member 2? of the belt has been so attached the other member 28 is placed with the eye i i and the extension 553 of buckle member 32 overlying the stud 52. The two

32 and 33 are next rotated through an angle of 96 degrees as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. When so arranged, the eye 43 on extension Ali registers with the head i t of stud d2 permitting said head to enter through the eye and to move the said eye inwardly upon the shank -33 of said stud. 32 and 33 may be released after which the two ends of the belt which are swivelly connected together through the two buckle members 32 and straighten out and assume the position shown in full lines in Fig. 2. Thereafter the belt functions in the usual manner being securely supported at the front of the garment.

Although I have shown specific forms of buckle members and snap fasteners it can readily be comprehended that other structures of similar nature may also be used in place of those shown.

My invention is highly advantageous in that an extremely simple and practical device is provided whereby belts used in garments may be supported without the necessity of the loops usually employed. By means of the particular construction shown, a belt buckle having rotatable parts may be employed. The buckle is easily and quickly attached to the garment by simply forcing the parts of the snap fastener together and are similarly disengaged by pulling the same apart. The parts of the belt being readily freed from the garment, the drop seat may be conveniently used for the intended purpose Without inconvenience and where the invention is used on an ordinary belt, the belt may be completely disengaged from the garment.

Changes in the specific form of my invention, as herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. In combination with the body of a garment, a belt encircling said body and having juxtaposed ends, a fastening therefor, comprising two buckle members adapted to be attached to the ends of the belt, one of said buckle members being adapted to underlie the other, and means attached to the underlying buckle member and free from the overlying buckle member, said means being detachably secured to the body of the garment for supporting the belt relative to the garment.

2. In combination with the body of a garment, a belt encircling said body and having juxtaposed ends, a fastening therefor comprising two buckle members adapted to be attached to the ends of the belt, and a snap fastener having one part attaohed to one of the buckle members and another part attached to the body of the garment for detachably supporting the belt relative to the garment.

3. In combination with the body of a garment, a belt encircling said body and having juxtaposed ends, a fastening therefor comprising two buckle members adapted to be attached to the ends of the belt, said buckle members being rotatably movable into and out of buckling relation and a fastener disposed at the axis of rotation of said buckle members and detachably secured to the body of the garment and supporting the belt relative thereto.

4. In combination with the body of a garment, a belt encircling said body and having juxtaposed ends, a fastening therefor comprising two buckle members adapted to be attached to the ends of the belt, said buckle members including frames, one of said buckle members having a stud issuing outwardly therefrom and the other having an eye for cooperation with said stud to secure the buckle members together and a fastener secured to the buckle member having the stud and detachably secured to the body of the garment for supporting the belt relative thereto.

5. In combination with the body of a garment, a belt encircling said body and having juxtaposed ends, a fastening therefor comprising two buckle members adapted to be attached to the ends of the belt, one of said buckle members having a stud secured thereto and the other being formed with an eye for engagement with said stud, a fastener comprising a button and a socketed member, means for securing the button to the garment, said stud having a shank extending through the buckle member to which the buckle member is attached, said shank engaging and holding said socketed member attached to the buckle members.

6. In combination with the body of a garment, a belt encircling said body and having juxtaposed ends; a fastening therefor comprising two buckle members, each formed with a frame having slots therein to provide bars extending across said frames for attachment to the ends of the belt, extensions on said frame, one of said extensions having a stud extending outwardly therefrom with an elongated head extending transversely of the belt, the other of said frame extensions being adapted to overlie the extension of said first named frame, said last named extension being formed with a longitudinally extending slot adapted to receive the elongated head of said stud and to be held in place thereon, said frames being rotatable about the shank of the stud to bring the head into register with said slot for engagement and disengagement of the buckle members, and a fastener having a part secured to said first named frame at the locality of said stud and another part secured to the body of the garment for detachably supporting the belt relative to the garment, said fastener parts being swivelly connected with respect to one another to, guide said frames for rotating movement in bringing the slot into register with the head on the stud.

7. In combination with the body of a garment, a belt encircling said body and having juxtaposed ends, a fastening therefor comprising two buckle members adapted to be attached to the ends of the belt, said buckle members being rotatably movable into and out of buckling relation and a fastener disposed at the axis of rotation of said buckle members and detachably secured to the body of the garment and supporting the belt relative thereto, said fastener comprising two parts, one secured to the buckle and the other to the body of the garment, said parts being swivelly connected with respect to one another and rotatable about the axis of rotation of the buckle members.

3. In combination with the body of a garment, a belt encircling said body and having juxtaposed ends, a fastening therefor comprising two buckle members attached to the ends of the belt, supporting means for the belt comprising two complemental parts, one of said parts being attached to one of said buckles and the other part being attached to the body of the garment.

9. In combination with the body of a garment, a belt encircling said body and having juxtaposed ends, a fastening therefor comprising a buckle, a snap fastener having two parts, one of said parts being attached to said buckle and the other part being attached to the body of the garment. 7

10. In combination with the body of a garment, a belt encircling said body and having juxtaposed ends, a fastening therefor comprising two buckle members attached to the ends of the belt, said members being adapted to be brought into fastening position through rotation thereof and supporting means for the belt comprising two swivelly connected parts, one of said parts being attached to the garment and the other to one of the buckle members.
