Abstract
A portable cable and wire dispensing apparatus, used to avoid the time-consuming, process of carrying multiple spools of cable and/or wire to a work site. The apparatus features a central cable and wire containment chamber and a cable and wire spool mounting bar within the containment chamber. The apparatus allow for the individual movement of each spool of cable or wire, preventing the unwanted unraveling of cable and/or wire from other spools that was not intended for current extraction. The outer case about the cable and wire spools provides additional protection from the elements, preventing possible early decay of the cable and/or wire resting in the apparatus containment chamber.
Description
- The present invention relates generally to various means for users to transport and conveniently dispense cable and wires. More specifically this invention relates to handheld portable cable transport means that allows for the simultaneous transport of multiple spools of cable and wire.
- Electrical work necessarily requires wires to be installed. Quite often the wires and cables that need to be installed require wires and cables of different color schemes. Because of the necessity to carry multiple color types of wire and cable to a job site, those performing electrical work may often need to make several trips to a work site from where their cable spools are located. This traveling back and forth for multiple spools of wire and cable is not only inconvenient, but wastes valuable time that could be better spent performing the actual tasks at hand.
- Previous attempts at improving upon this process include mounting a bar to a ladder, a wire dispensing racks, wheel mounted dispensing racks and specially designed wire dispensing spools. However, these devices themselves are imperfect solutions at best.
- The bar mounted to a ladder to be used as a dispenser would require carrying the ladder to a worksite, often when one is not required. The hand held dispensing racks have no convenient means of effectively grasping the dispensing racks, and the wheel mounted dispensing racks require cumbersome and awkward wheels that make the dispensing rack difficult to deal with when being stored within vehicles for longer distance transport. The dispensing spools do not address the need to reduce the number of trips necessary to bring multiple sets of wire to a specific work site. In addition, none of the designs offer a highly effective means of reducing friction between spools when removing cable or wire from a single spool located next to the spool wire is being removed from. Further, they offer no additional protection from potentially harmful exposure to the elements that the wires may be exposed to in hazardous working conditions.
- What is needed is a means of avoiding the time-consuming, inconvenient step of making multiple trips to carry back various spools with individually colored cables and wires. This means should provide a convenient way to grasp and carry away multiple spools of cable and wire simultaneously, provide additional protection to cable and wire from potentially hazardous elements. Additionally, users should be able to readily have convenient access to whichever color wiring or cable they require, and should be able to extract said colored wiring or cable without interfering with any other colored spools of cable or wire located next to the cable or wire the user is extracting. The present invention provides a solution to all these shortcomings.
- The instant invention, as illustrated herein, is clearly not anticipated, rendered obvious, or even present in any of the prior art mechanisms, either alone or in any combination thereof. A portable cable and wire transporting apparatus designed to overcome the previously mentioned shortcomings of earlier problems in the art would afford user the advantages of avoiding the need to perform the time-consuming process of making multiple trips to carry multiple spools of cable and wire to a job site, being convenient to carry, affording additional protection to exposure, ensuring independent spool movement when extracting one particular color cable or wire. Further, this invention allows for the extraction of one cable or wire of a particular color without lifting, sliding open, pulling or moving in any way a lid, shelf or other type of sealing member or compartment. Thus, the several embodiments of the instant invention are illustrated herein.
- Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to overcome the previously mentioned shortcomings found in the prior art with a handheld portable cable and wire dispensing apparatus.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a handheld portable cable and wire dispensing apparatus with an easy to manufacture design.
