Description
- The present application claims priority on U.S. Provisional Application No. 61/193,249 which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
- The present invention relates to a display wall. More particularly but not exclusively the present invention relates to a slat wall assembly.
- Slat walls are well known in the art. Conventionally, slat walls are mounted to a wall surface and include a display side with receiving slats (or hooks defining grooves) so as to receive display elements having mutually engaging elements such as hooks and shelves.
- A drawback of conventional systems is that the slat walls cannot be removed or replaced without damage to the wall surface they are mounted to. Furthermore, conventional slat walls are esthetically limited due to the fact that screws and other fasteners for mounting these structures to wall surfaces are visible.
- An object of the present invention is to provide a slat wall assembly
- In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a slat wall assembly for being mounted to a wall surface and for receiving displaying elements used in displaying articles, the slat wall assembly comprising:
- at least one backing panel comprising a rear surface mounting side for being mounted to the wall surface and an opposite front side; and
- at least one slat wall member comprising a rear side being removable mountable to the backing panel front side and a slat wall front side for receiving the displaying elements.
- Other objects, advantages and features of the present invention will become more apparent upon reading of the following non-restrictive description of non-limiting illustrative embodiments thereof, given by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings.
- In the appended drawings, where like reference numerals denote like elements throughout and in where:
-
FIG. 1 is a lateral side view of a slat wall assembly in accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the present invention; -
FIG. 2 is a lateral side view of a slat wall assembly in accordance with another illustrative embodiment of the present invention; -
FIG. 3 is a lateral side view of a the backing panel of the slat wall assembly ofFIG. 1 ; -
FIG. 4 is a rear view of a the backing panel of the slat wall assembly ofFIG. 1 ; and -
FIG. 5 is a rear view of the backing panel of the slat wall assembly ofFIG. 1 . - With reference to the appended drawings, an illustrative embodiment of the slat wall assembly will be described herein so as to exemplify the invention and not limit the scope thereof.
- Generally stated there is provided, in an embodiment, an assembly having at least one backing panel and at least one slat wall member mountable thereto. The backing panel is mountable to a wall surface and the slat wall member can be removably mounted thereto. The slat wall member can receive a variety of display elements such as hooks and shelves. Hooks and shelves include mounting elements such hooks or grooves that can be mounted to the receiving elements (corresponding hooks and grooves) of the slat wall member as is known in the art. The slat wall member maskingly covers the backing panel and hides any screws or other types of fasteners used to mount this backing panel to the wall surface.
-
FIG. 1 shows aslat wall assembly 10 comprising abacking panel 12 and a pairslat wall members 14 removably mounted thereto. - With reference to
FIGS. 3 , 4 and 5 thebacking panel 12 will now be described in greater detail. - The
backing panel 12 is a longitudinal member having asurface mounting side 16, for being mounted to a wall structure of other surface, and an opposite slatwall mounting side 18 as well as top 20 inbottom 22 ends. The front slatwall mounting side 18 includes protrudingportions 24 formed along the length of thebacking panel 12. The protruding portions are spaced apart by aspace 25 thereby defininginward portions 26 therebetween. Thetop end 28 of eachprotruding portion 24 includes an upwardly extendinghook member 30 adjacent a downwardly extendinggroove 32 formed between thehook member 30 and theportion 26. Thegroove 32 is a slat wall receiving element. Of course thehook member 30 is also a slat wall receiving element. - The wall mounting or
rear side 16 of thebacking panel 12 is a generally flat structure includingfastening apertures 34 for mounting thebacking panel 12 to a wall structure W or other similar surface. - Turning now to
FIG. 1 theslat wall member 14 includes a displayelement front side 36 and a backpanel mounting side 38. - The back
panel mounting side 38 includes a plurality of mounting elements such as upwardly extendinghook members 40 for being mounted withingrooves 32. Therefore, hook members 40 are backing panel mounting elements. - The
slat wall member 14 includes a series of permutatinglong portions 42 andshort portions 44. Theshort portion 44 and thehook member 40 define an upwardly extendinggroove 45 therebetween for receiving thehook member 30 therein. As such, thegroove 45 comprises a mounting element. Thelong portions 42 andshort portions 44 are off-set thereby providing outwardly protrudinglong portions 42 and inwardly recessedshort portions 44. The foregoing jagged configuration defines aspace 46 between two adjacent forwardly protrudinglong portions 42. - The
long portions 42 andshort portions 44 are connected by spacing sections 48. Thehooks 40 rearwardly protrude from theshort portions 44. - At
space 46 anupward groove 50 is defined at thefront side 36 of theslat wall 14 member. Thisupward groove 50 is in fact a display-element receiving element. Thegroove 50 is formed atspace 46 between two outwardly protrudinglong portions 42 and an inwardly protrudingshort portion 44 as well as thebottom end 54 of an upperlong portion 42 defining downwardly extendinghook member 52 which is also a display-element receiving element. - Of course, the display element receiving elements of the present invention can be configured in a variety of known ways.
-
FIG. 2 shows another embodiment of a slat wall display assembly 100. In fact, slat wall assembly 100 is similar toslat wall assembly 10 only that it is upside down relative toassembly 10. In this way, thegrooves 32 are upwardly extending so as to receive downwardly extendinghooks 40 therein. Thehooks 30 of thebacking panel 12 are downwardly extending and inwardly biased so as to be received within the downwardly extendinggroove 45 and to hold theslat wall hook 40 against theinward wall 26. Furthermore, the display-element receiving elements of thefront side 36 of theslat wall member 14 comprise upwardly extendinghook members 54 and downwardly extendinggrooves 50. - It is understood that a variety of constructions can be contemplated within the scope of the present invention.
- When the slat wall display assemblies 10 to 100 have been assembled the
backing panel 12 is substantially masked by theslat wall member 14 and all fastening elements such asapertures 34 are covered thereby. Theslat wall members 14 are replaceable and a variety of similar lat wall structure having different configurations can be mounted to thesame backing panel 12 which is permanently mounted to a wall or other surface. - It is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described hereinabove. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced in various ways. It is also to be understood that the phraseology or terminology used herein is for the purpose of description and not limitation. Hence, although the present invention has been described hereinabove by way of embodiments thereof, it can be modified, without departing from the spirit, scope and nature of the subject invention.
