Description

TITLE OF THE INVENTION

SLAT WALL ASSEMBLY
FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a display wall. More particularly but not exclusively the present invention relates to a slat wall assembly.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Slat walls are well known in the art. Conventionally, slat walls are mounted to a wall surface and include a display side with receiving slats (or hooks defining grooves) so as to receive display elements having mutually engaging elements such as hooks and shelves.
[0003] A drawback of conventional systems is that the slat walls cannot be removed or replaced without damage to the wall surface they are mounted to.
Furthermore, conventional slat walls are esthetically limited due to the fact that screws and other fasteners for mounting these structures to wall surfaces are visbie.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
[0004] An object of the present invention is to provide a slat wall assembly SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005] In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, there is provided a slat wall assembly for being mounted to a wall surface and for receiving 1457212.1 displaying elements used in displaying articles, the slat wall assembly comprising:
[0006] at least one backing panel comprising a rear surface mounting side for being mounted to the wall surface and an opposite front side; and [0007] at least one slat wall member comprising a rear side being removable mountable to the backing panel front side and a slat wall front side for receiving the displaying elements.
[0008] Other objects, advantages and features of the present invention will become more apparent upon reading of the following non-restrictive description of non-limiting illustrative embodiments thereof, given by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0009] In the appended drawings, where like reference numerals denote like elements throughout and in where:
[0010] Figure 1 is a lateral side view of a slat wall assembly in accordance with an illustrative embodiment of the present invention;
[0011] Figure 2 is a lateral side view of a slat wall assembly in accordance with another illustrative embodiment of the present invention;
[0012] Figure 3 is a lateral side view of a the backing panel of the slat wall assembly of Figure 1;

1457212.1 [0013] Figure 4 is a rear view of a the backing panel of the slat wall assembly of Figure 1; and [0014] Figure 5 is a rear view of the backing panel of the slat wall assembly of Figure 1.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF ILLUSTRATIVE EMBODIMENTS
[0015] With reference to the appended drawings, an illustrative embodiment of the slat wall assembly will be described herein so as to exemplify the invention and not limit the scope thereof.
[0016] Generally stated there is provided, in an embodiment, an assembly having at least one backing panel and at least one slat wall member mountable thereto.
The backing panel is mountable to a wall surface and the slat wall member can be removably mounted thereto. The slat wall member can receive a variety of display elements such as hooks and shelves. Hooks and shelves include mounting elements such hooks or grooves that can be mounted to the receiving elements (corresponding hooks and grooves) of the slat wall member as is known in the art. The slat wall member maskingly covers the backing panel and hides any screws or other types of fasteners used to mount this backing panel to the wall surface.
[0017] Figure 1 shows a slat wall assembly 10 comprising a backing panel 12 and a pair slat wall members 14 removably mounted thereto.
[0018] With reference to Figures 3, 4 and 5 the backing panel 12 will now be 1457212.1 described in greater detail.
[0019] The backing panel 12 is a longitudinal member having a surface mounting side 16, for being mounted to a wall structure of other surface, and an opposite slat wall mounting side 18 as well as top 20 in bottom 22 ends. The front slat wall mounting side 18 includes protruding portions 24 formed along the length of the backing panel 12. The protruding portions are spaced apart by a space 25 thereby defining inward portions 26 therebetween. The top end 28 of each protruding portion 24 includes an upwardly extending hook member 30 adjacent a downwardly extending groove 32 formed between the hook member 30 and the portion 26. The groove 32 is a slat wall receiving element. Of course the hook member 30 is also a slat wall receiving element.
[0020] The wall mounting or rear side 16 of the backing panel 12 is a generally flat structure including fastening apertures 34 for mounting the backing panel 12 to a wall structure W or other similar surface.
[0021] Turning now to Figure 1 the slat wall member 14 includes a display element front side 36 and a back panel mounting side 38.
[0022] The back panel mounting side 38 includes a plurality of mounting elements such as upwardly extending hook members 40 for being mounted within grooves 32. Therefore, hook members 40 are backing panel mounting elements.
[0023] The slat wall member 14 includes a series of permutating long portions 42 and short portions 44. The short portion 44 and the hook member 40 define an upwardly extending groove 45 therebetween for receiving the hook member 30 1457212.1 therein. As such, the groove 45 comprises a mounting element. The long portions 42 and short portions 44 are off-set thereby providing outwardly protruding long portions 42 and inwardly recessed short portions 44. The foregoing jagged configuration defines a space 46 between two adjacent forwardly protruding long portions 42.

5 [0024] The long portions 42 and short portions 44 are connected by spacing sections 48. The hooks 40 rearwardly protrude from the short portions 44.

[0025] At space 46 an upward groove 50 is defined at the front side 36 of the slat wall 14 member. This upward groove 50 is in fact a display-element receiving element. The groove 50 is formed at space 46 between two outwardly protruding long portions 42 and an inwardly protruding short portion 44 as well as the bottom end 54 of an upper long portion 42 defining downwardly extending hook member 52 which is also a display-element receiving element.

[0026] Of course, the display element receiving elements of the present invention can be configured in a variety of known ways.

[0027] Figure 2 shows another embodiment of a slat wall display assembly 100. In fact, slat wall assembly 100 is similar to slat wall assembly 10 only that it is upside down relative to assembly 10. In this way, the grooves 32 are upwardly extending so as to receive downwardly extending hooks 40 therein. The hooks 30 of the backing panel 12 are downwardly extending and inwardly biased so as to be received within the downwardly extending groove 45 and to hold the slat wall hook 40 against the inward wall 26. Furthermore, the display-element receiving elements of the front side 36 of the slat wall member 14 comprise upwardly extending hook members 54 and downwardly extending grooves 50.

1457212.1 [0028] It is understood that a variety of constructions can be contemplated within the scope of the present invention.

[0029] When the slat wall display assemblies 10 to 100 have been assembled the backing panel 12 is substantially masked by the slat wall member and all fastening elements such as apertures 34 are covered thereby. The slat wall members14 are replaceable and a variety of similar lat wall structure having different configurations can be mounted to the same backing panel 12 which is permanently mounted to a wall or other surface.

[0030] It is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and parts illustrated in the accompanying drawings and described hereinabove. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced in various ways. It is also to be understood that the phraseology or terminology used herein is for the purpose of description and not limitation. Hence, although the present invention has been described hereinabove by way of embodiments thereof, it can be modified, without departing from the spirit, scope and nature of the subject invention.
