Abstract
The invention is a lightweight, disposable and biodegradable dustpan kit that provides everything necessary to quickly and easily treat and collect a spill, particularly a repulsive body fluid spill such as vomit or urine. With this portable kit there is no need to use cleaning implements such as brooms, mops, sponges, buckets, etc, to clean up a spill and because it is a disposable product, there is no need to spend time cleaning the cleaning implement itself. In addition, the kit is composed of biodegradable materials and doesn't introduce toxic chemicals into the environment.

- Parents, pet owners and retail business owners can attest to the fact that nasty spills happen often. The majority of spill kits on the market today are composed of non-biodegradable materials and are often too small and inadequate, or too large and cumbersome (i.e. mop and bucket) to tackle a nasty spill like vomit. Consumers are forced to employ a host of polluting products, such as paper towels, chemicals, mops, and plastic bags every time they tackle a nasty mess and this means added costs to the consumer and an increase in non-biodegradable waste entering the environment. My disposable invention contains everything needed to treat and collect a small spill, and it contains biodegradable components that once discarded will have less of an environmental impact than the endless amounts of plastics and toxins thrown away in the course of cleaning up spills.
- This invention relates to the field of cleaning implements and more specifically spill containment kits.
- This disposable biodegradable dust pan kit provides everything needed to quickly treat, collect and dispose of a spill with natural and biodegradable materials. The purpose of this kit is to simplify and ease the process of cleaning up repulsive body fluid spills such as vomit and urine, as well as other types of small spills. This kit also prevents or lessens the accidental contamination of other areas/surfaces since the spill is contained once it is covered with the absorbent material included in the kit. Additionally, this kit protects the user since the spill can be immediately contained and sanitized without having to get too close.

FIG. 9 . depicts the discarded dustpan kit in the provided garbage bag. - The present invention relates to a disposable & biodegradable dust pan kit for the treatment and collection of spills. The invention is comprised of the following:
-
- (1) The first component, illustrated by
FIG. 1 , is a sealed triangularshaped container 1 made of biodegradable cardboard and/or biodegradable plastic that folds in the manner illustrated byFIG. 1 b and comes apart in a specific way, illustrated byFIG. 2 , so that both thetop 1 and thebottom 2 portions will serve as dustpans that used together will facilitate scooping up the spill. - (2) The second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth components, depicted by
FIG. 3 , are sealed within the triangular shaped container. The second component is the absorbent/odor eliminator component which consists of a small sealed biodegradableplastic container 1 that holds a mixture of sawdust and baking soda; the third component is a biodegradable container that holds a vinegar based odor eliminator &disinfectant 2; the fourth component is a pair of disposablebiodegradable gloves 3; the fifth component is a folded biodegradable plastic bag for easy disposal of thesoiled kit 4; and the sixth component is a biodegradable napkin 5.
- (1) The first component, illustrated by
- The sealed dust pan container is opened by separating the
top 1 andbottom 2 portions as illustrated byFIG. 4 . Both detached portions will serve as dustpans. The kit components are removed. The sealed absorbent is opened and poured onto the spill as illustrated byFIG. 5 . The detached dustpans are used to combine the absorbent with the spill as illustrated byFIG. 6 . The sealed odor eliminator/disinfectant is opened and poured onto the spill, and the detached dustpans are used to combine the mixture with the spill as illustrated byFIG. 7 . The detached dustpans are then used to scoop up the absorbent as shown inFIG. 8 , which by now has absorbed the spill. The soiled dustpan kit is placed into the provided plastic bag for easy disposal as illustrated byFIG. 9 .
Claims (7)
1. A disposable and biodegradable dustpan spill kit containing biodegradable cleaning components that facilitate the treatment and collection of spills so that when a spill is encountered, the dustpan kit is opened, the dustpans are separated, the cleaning components are removed and used to treat the spill, and once the spill has been absorbed, deodorized and disinfected by the cleaning components, the dry residue is scooped and discarded using the dustpans.
2. The disposable dustpan spill kit of claim 1 , comprising: a biodegradable container, biodegradable absorbent, biodegradable deodorizer/disinfectant, biodegradable gloves, a biodegradable napkin, and a biodegradable garbage bag.
3. The disposable dustpan spill kit of claim 2 , comprising: a specifically shaped container that comes apart in such a way as to provide two disposable dustpans.
4. The disposable dustpan spill kit of claim 2 , wherein all kit components and their individual packaging are biodegradable.
5. The disposable dustpan spill kit of claim 1 , wherein the kit is lightweight and portable.
6. The disposable dustpan spill kit of claim 2 , wherein the dry absorbent mixture covers and absorbs the spill, and the vinegar based solution disinfects and further deodorizes the spill.
7. The disposable dustpan spill kit of claim 1 , wherein the kit provides everything necessary to collect and treat a small spill.
