1 Claim. (Cl.-"i 16' 11 6) The invention relates to a slicing device and t more especially to a vegetable slicer and grater.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the parts of the same are made from pressed sheet material and in the working of said device it will cut slaw, slice, grate or shred vegetables, cheese, cold meats or the like, and in its assembly is novel in form.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the supporting frame thereof is provided with a rest for the material to be cut and the cutter is manually operated, the device being readily clamped to a table or other support for service.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose, light in weight yet strong, durable and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 looking toward the opposite side of the device.
Figure 3 is a sectional View on the line 33 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view showing the demountable connection of a cutter in the device.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary side elevation of a shreading disk.
Figure 6 is a sectional View on the line 65 of Figure 5 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates a portion of a table top, stand or the like, upon which is fastened the device constitutingthe present invention and hereinafter fully described.
The device comprises a frame H) made from strap metal bent to provide the base II and uprights [2 and I3, respectively, the ends of this frame being shaped to provide the intermediate and outer arbor sleeves l4 and I5, respectively, these being aligned with each other to accommodate a turning shaft l6.
Supported by the frame H1 at the upper portion thereof, it being vertically disposed, is a circular body H, the same being preferably soldered or otherwise joined with the frame and has provided therein a window or opening [8, the shaft l6 being extended centrally through the said body I1 and at this extended end is a disklike shoulder l9 having the lugs 20 for engagement in suitable holes in a cutting disk 2! having the radially directed inclined cutting blades 22 cut and bent therefrom. These blades 22 confront the window or opening 18 so that vegetables, cheese, meat or the like introduced through the window or opening l8 will be sliced by the blades 22 on the rotation of the cutter 2i. The end 23 of the arbor I6 next to the shoulder i9 is threaded at 24 to constitute a male stud for reception in a threaded socket 25 of the attaching end 26 of a hand crank 21 and this end 26 is adapted to be tightened against the cutting disk 2! to make the same fast upon the arbor IS, the lugs 25 interlocking with the said cutting disk so that it will be prevented from turning independently of the arbor IS in the operation of the device.
The crank 21 is provided with the handle end 28 for manual turning of the crank. The other end of the arbor it is formed with a head 29 which prevents the said arbor from working out of the sleeves l6 and 15 when fitted therein. This arbor l6 constitutes a connector for the sleeve ends [4 and 55 of the frame II].
The circular body I! is formed with a rim 30 disposed concentrically about the cutting disk 2| and said rim at the lowermost portion of the cutting disk 2! is open to provide a discharge mouth 3| so that the cut pieces can be delivered into a receptacle or receiver when placed in position beneath the mouth 3| and upon the table top, stand or support A.
To mount the device upon the table top, stand or support A there is provided a clamp 32 having the clamping screw 33 and this clamp 32 is bridged over the base I I of the frame !0, with the screw 33 binding against the bottom face of the table top, stand or support A, as is clearly shown'in Figures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawing, and thus the device is set and rigidly held for use.
The frame ill at the window or opening it is formed to provide a rest 34 for vegetables or other materials to be sliced, grated, shredded or cut, so that the said vegetables or other materials can be delivered through the window or opening I8 into the path of the blades 22 of the cutting disk 2! for the cutting operation thereby. In Figures 5 and 6 of the drawing there is shown a portion of a disk 35 having a punchedout grating surface effected by the blades 36 and slots 31, respectively. This disk 35 is engaged on the arbor IS in substitute for the cutting disk 2! when it is desired to use the device for grating purposes. I
It will be apparent that by cutting the blades 22 from the disk 2|, slots 38 are provided next to said blades and through these slots the out slices are delivered under the cutting action of the disk 2| when operated.
What is claimed is:
A device of the character described comprising an open frame made from strap metal bent to provide a base and uprights, respectively, the
ends of the uprights being shaped to provide intermediate and outer arbor sleeves, respectively,
these being aligned with each other, a turning shaft accommodated within said sleeves, a ciroular body carried by said frame at the upper portion thereof and having an opening, the turning shaft being extended centrally through the body and formed with a disk-like shoulder at this extended portion, lugs on said shoulder, a cutting disk fitting said extended end of the shaft and having holes receiving said lugs, radially arranged cutting blades cut and bent from said cutting disk and confronting the opening in the body, a hand crank threaded on the extended end of the turning shaft and having a hub portion therefor working against the disk to hold the lugs engaged in the openings therein, and a rim on said body and about said disk and forming a discharge mouth at the lowermost portion of said disk, the said frame being provided with a seat next to said opening in the body.
