Description

W. T. GRAY DRAWING BOARD July 3o, 1935.
Filed May l2, 1934 Patented July 30, 1935 UNITED STATES PMI-:rrrv oFFlcE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to a drawing board, particularly useful for draftsmen, sketchers and artists-whether students or experienced.
An object of my invention is to provide a draw- 5 ing board which -is simple in construction and which will quickly and eectively hold in position the paper to be drawn upon.
Another object is to provide a drawing board with a novel frame which serves to clamp the paper in position, the frame being calibrated on all four sides thereof, so that the workman can quickly and easily draw an object upon the paper to the proper dimensions.
Other objects, advantages and features of invention may appear from the accompanying drawing, the subjoined detailed description, and the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of my drawing board.
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the same.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View of my drawing board,
Figure 4 is a perspective View of the same with the clamping frame in elevated position.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral I indicates the base, preferably made of wood. However, any other suitable material may be used.
On each side of the base I and extending longitudinally thereof, I provide a beading or edging 2, 3. The beading projects above the upper surface of the base I to serve as a guide for the paper and also to align the movable frame, as will be further described.
A rectangular frame 4 is hingedly secured to the base I at the upper edge thereof, by means of hinges 5, 5. A fastener 6 on the swinging end of the frame 4 secures said frame to the base l when in lowered position, as shown in Figures l and 2. The frame 4, when in closed position, is substantially iush with the upper face of the beading 2, 3, as shown in Figure 3.
The four sides of the frame 4 are calibrated, as shown at 1. The calibrations on both sides increase from the top to the bottom, while the calibrations on the upper and lower edges of the frame increase from left to right. With this arV rangement, lit is possible to quickly and accurately draw parallel lines on the paper by simply resting a straight edge on corresponding numbers on either the sides of the frame or the top and bottom thereof. Y
The drawing paper is held on the board by first releasing a catch or fastener 6 and then elevating the frame 4. Paper is then placed on the base I and is squared by placing one edge of the paper against one of the headings 2 or 3. The frame is then lowered and the fastener 6 is engaged, thereby clamping the drawing paper securely in position.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. A drawing board comprising a base, beading on two sides of the base and extending upwardly therefrom, a rectangular frame hingely mounted to thev base between the beading, said frame being adapted to t between the beading and to rest on the base, a catch on the swinging end of the frame, said catch` engaging the base whereby the frame is held tightly against. the base, said frame being calibrated on all four sides thereof.
2. A drawing board comprising a flat base, a rectangular frame hingedly mounted on one edge of said base, the drawing paper being adapted to be clamped between the frame and the base, fastening means on the swinging end of said frame whereby said frame is secured to the base, and beading on two sides of the base extending upwardly therefrom, said beading extending the length of the base, and the frame tting between the beading when in closed position, said frame being calibrated on all four sides.
