12 Claims. 7 (01. 112 -230 This invention relates to improvements in loop-takers for sewing machines-and more particularly to the type of loop-taker i having a thread-case journaled in a raceway. I I
One of the objects of his invention is to provide an improved raceway for the thread-case which will yield outwardly or in a' plane at right angles to the axis of movement of the 'loopetaker in the event that thread or other foreign material is caught in the raceway.
" With the above and othenobjects in view, as will hereinafter appear, the-invention comprises the devices, combinations andiarrangementsof parts hereinafter set forthand illustrated in-the accompanying drawingsof a' preferred embodiment of the inventiomffrom which. the several features of the invention and the'advantages attained thereby *will 'be readily understood by those skilled in the art.

In the embodiment of this invention selected for illustration, I is the well-known vertical-axis loop-taker driving shaft which has fixed to its upper end the usual cup-shaped loop-taker body 2 which is formed with a gap 2 and a flange 3'having one of its ends terminating in a loop-seizing beak 4 and its other end terminating in a vertical wall 5. The loop-taker body 2 is provided with a bearing seat 6 for the bearing rib l of the usual thread-case 8 having a finger 53 engaging the usual rotation restraining bar Ii]. Fixed to the loop-taker body 2 by the pivot-pin I I is an arcuate member I2 having a dependingstud plan view 1 of my improved I3 which is adapted to enter the peripheral opening I3 formed in the hook-body 2. The arcuate member I2 andflange 3 together form a continuous circular flange on theihook-body, the 7 member l2 being, in effect, a section of theflange; A fiat spring I4, forming a needle-guard, has'one of its ends fixed to the loop-taker body '2 by means of the screws I5 and bridgesthe ap 2 of the hook-body adjacent the loop-seizing beak. The free end of the needle-guard It extends over the stud I3 and is held against sidewise movement by the ribs I6 formed on the loop-taker body 2. A cover-ring formed in two sections I8 andv I8 prevents vertical movement of the thread-case 8'in the loop-taker body." The section 58 is fixed to the flange 3 by means of the screws I9 and extends over "the vertical wall 5 oithe flange 3 thus serving to hold one end of the arcuate member against the lcop-taker-body. A loop-taker for sewing machines including a circular member provided with a fiange a por-- tion of which is radially yieldable, and a spring secured to the outer periphery of said member for yieldingly holdingthe radially yieldable portion of said flange'in its normal position. p
2. A loop-taker for sewing machines including a circular member provided with a flange formed in two sectionsgone of said sections being fixed to said member and the other section having one of its ends pivoted to said member and its other endurged inwardly by a flat spring fixed to the outer periphery of said member.
' 3. A loop-taker for sewing machines including a circular loop-seizing element formed with a flange having one end terminating in a loopseizing beak and its other end terminating in an upstanding wall, an arcuate member having one of its ends pivoted to said element adjacent the upstanding wall and spring means fixed to the outer periphery of said element for constantly urging the free end of said arcuate memof movement of said member, spring means fixed to the outer periphery of said member for yieldingly holding said last mentioned section in its normal position, and a thread-case having a bearing rib journaled in said raceway.
5. A circular moving hook for sewing machines formed with a loop-seizing beak anda circular raceway having a gap therein adjacent the point of said beak, a thread-case having a bearing rib journaled in said raceway, the raceway forming portion of the hook including a movable section pivotally connected to the hook-body and a fiat spring bridging the gap in the raceway for yieldingly holding said radiallymovable section in its normal position. v
6. A circular moving hook for sewing machines formed with a loop-seizing beak and a circular raceway having a gap therein adjacent the point of said beak, a thread-case having a bearing rib journaled in said raceway, the raceway forming portion of the hook including a movable section pivotally connected to the hook-body and a resilient needle-guard bridging the gap in the raceway for yieldingly holding said radially movable section in its normal position.
7. A loop-taker for sewing machines including an annular member formed with a flange having one'end terminating in a loop-seizing beak and formed with a raceway, an arcuate element having one of its ends pivoted to said member for movement in a plane at right angles to the axis of rotation of said loop-taker, a stud carried by said element and a flat spring having one end fixed to said annular member and its other end overlying the stud for resiliently holding said arcuate element in its normal position.

A circular moving loop-taker for sewing m a-. chines including an annular member provided with a flange formed in two sections, each section forming a portion of a raceway, at least one of said sections having one of its ends pivotally secured to said member and its other end yieldingly held in engagement with said member by means of a resilient needle-guard.

A circular moving hook for sewingmachines having a loop-seizing beak and a circular raceway formed with a gap therein adjacent the point of the beak, a thread-case having a bearing rib journaled in said raceway, the raceway forming portion of the hook including an arcuate member pivotally connected to the hook-body, a stud carried by said arcuate member, and a flat spring carried by the hook-body and engaging said stud.

A circular moving hook for sewing machines comprising a cup-shaped hook-body formed with a bearing seat, and an upstanding annular wall, a portion of the wall being yieldable in a plane at right angles to the axis of movement of said hook, a thread-case having an annular bearing rib supported by said seat, and a cover-ring for maintaining said bearing rib on said seat and within the area defined by said upstanding wall. 1

A circular moving hook for sewing machines comprising a hook-body formed with a bearing seat and a flange having one end terminating in a loop-seizing beak, an arcuate member having one endpivoted to said hook, a stud carried by the free end of said arcuate member, a spring fixed to said hook-body and engaging said stud to maintain said arcuate member in its normal position, a thread-case having an annular bearing rib supported by said bearing seat, and a cover-ring for confining saidbearing rib in said hook-body. a

A circular moving hook for, sewing machines comprising a hook-body formed with-a bearing seat and a flange having one end ter-' minating in'a loop-seizing beak, an arcuate member having one end pivoted to said hook-body, a stud carried by the free end of said arcuate member, a spring having one end fixed to said hookbody andits free end engaging said stud to maintain said arcuate member in its normal position, and elements carried by said hook-body for holding the free end of said spring against movement in a direction parallel to the axis of movement of said hook. j
