Abstract
A kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser using only one hand, whereby the weight of the ribbon is evenly distributed about the dispenser and the roll of ribbon rotates parallel to the horizon. The kit comprising a handle, a circular disk bottom base plate, a vertical rotation rod, a roll of ribbon, a circular disk top base plate, and a fastening means. The handle is fixedly attached to the circular disk bottom plate; the circular disk bottom plate is fixedly attached to the vertical rotation rod; the roll of ribbon is rotatably disposed around the vertical rotation rod; and the circular disk top base plate is removably attached to the vertical rotation rod using the fastening means.
Description
- The present invention is a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser using only one hand, whereby the weight of the ribbon is evenly distributed about the dispenser and the roll of ribbon rotates parallel to the horizon.
- The inventor conceived the present invention while accompanying his police officer son to the scene of an accident. The inventor watched his son and other police officers secure the perimeter of the accident scene with police ribbon and he noticed that his son and other police officers used their police issued metal flashlights as the means for dispensing the police ribbon.
- Using the shaft of the police officer's flashlight as a dispensing means prevents the officer from using the flashlight for its intended purpose, i.e. as a light source. Furthermore, as the shaft of the flashlight has nothing to support the weight of the roll of ribbon, the roll of ribbon must rest directly on the hand of the officer; when the ribbon rotates about the shaft of the flashlight, the officer may experience a discomforting chafing of his or her hand while securing a crime or accident scene.
- In order to prevent the chaffing of the hand of the officer, the flashlight must be held with both hands whereby the shaft is horizontal to the horizon and the roll of ribbon rotates perpendicular to the horizon. This method however, requires the use of both hands and increases the likelihood that the ribbon will become twisted.
- An objective of the present invention is to provide a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser using only one hand.
- Another objective of the present invention is to provide a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser that does not chafe the user's hand.
- Another objective of the present invention is to provide a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser that prevents the dispensed ribbon from twisting.
- Another objective of the present invention is to provide a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser that distributes the weight of the roll of ribbon evenly about the dispenser.
- Yet a further objective of the present invention is to provide a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser that provides a minimal amount of stress to the wrist of the user.
- An attempt to address these objectives can be found in the commercial product TAPE-WHIZ, however this reference requires the roll to rotate perpendicular to the horizon therefore increasing the likelihood of the ribbon becoming twisted; does not evenly distribute the weight of the roll of ribbon about the dispenser; and creates an unnatural stress on the wrist of the user.
- For the foregoing reasons there exists a need for a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser using only one hand, whereby the weight of the ribbon is evenly distributed about the dispenser and the roll of ribbon rotates parallel to the horizon.
- The present invention is a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser using only one hand, whereby the weight of the ribbon is evenly distributed about the dispenser and the roll of ribbon rotates parallel to the horizon. The kit comprises a ribbon dispenser comprising a handle, bottom base plate, vertical rotation rod and a top base plate, and a roll of ribbon.
- The kit is used by first fixedly attaching the first end of the ribbon to a secured object. Then, the handheld ribbon dispenser is moved away from the fixedly attached first end of the ribbon, the roll of ribbon rotates about the vertical rotation rod, thereby dispensing the ribbon to the desired length.
- These and other features, aspects, and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with regard to the following description, appended claims and drawings where:
-
FIG. 1 shows an exploded perspective view of one embodiment of the present invention; -
FIG. 2 shows a perspective view of one embodiment of the present invention with roll of ribbon included therein; -
FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of one embodiment of the present invention with roll of ribbon not included therein; -
FIG. 4 shows a side elevation view of one embodiment of the present invention; -
FIG. 5 shows an overhead view of one embodiment of the present invention; and -
FIG. 6 shows an underside view of one embodiment of the present invention. - As shown in
FIG. 1-6 , a handheldribbon dispensing kit 100, comprising ahandle 10, having a top end and a bottom end, a circular diskbottom base plate 12, having an upper surface and a lower surface, avertical rotation rod 14, having a top end, a bottom end and abore 20 running centrally along the length of thevertical rotation rod 14, a roll ofribbon 200, comprising aribbon sheet 22 wrapped about an open ended, hollowcylindrical center tube 24, a circular disktop base plate 18, having an upper surface, a lower surface and a bore 18 a running centrally along the length of the circular disktop base plate 18, and a fastening means 16. - The top end of the
handle 10 is fixedly attached to the lower surface of the circulardisk bottom plate 12, thehandle 10 and circulardisk bottom plate 12 might be made of a rigid, light weight, durable material such as a plastic or a plastic composite. - The upper surface of the circular
disk bottom plate 12, is fixedly attached to the bottom end of thevertical rotation rod 14, thevertical rotation rod 14 might be made of made of a rigid, light weight, durable material such as plastic or a plastic composite. - The roll of
ribbon 200 is rotatably disposed upon thevertical rotation rod 14, whereby the open ended, hollowcylindrical center tube 24 has a diameter that is greater than the diameter of or thevertical rotation rod 14 so that the roll ofribbon 200 may rotate freely about thevertical rotation rod 14. - The top end of the
vertical rotation rod 14 is removably attached to the lower surface of the circular disktop base plate 18 using the fastening means 16, whereby the fastening means 16 is placed through the bore 18 a and screwedly housed inbore 20. The circulardisk top plate 18 might be made of a rigid light weight durable material such as plastic or a plastic composite. - The present invention is used by first fixedly attaching the first end of the
ribbon 22 to a secured object. Then, as thehandheld ribbon dispenser 100 is moved away from the fixedly attached first end of the ribbon, the roll ofribbon 200 rotates about thevertical rotation rod 14 thereby dispensing theribbon 22 to the desired length. - An advantage of the present invention is that it provides a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser using only one hand.
- Another advantage of the present invention is that it provides a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser that does not chaff the users' hand.
- Another advantage of the present invention is that it provides a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser that prevents the dispensed ribbon from twisting.
- Another advantage of the present invention is that it provides a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser that distributes the weight of the roll of ribbon evenly about the dispenser.
- Yet still another advantage of the present invention is that it provides a kit that facilitates the dispensing of a ribbon from a handheld ribbon dispenser that provides a minimal amount of stress to the wrist of the user.
- Although the present invention has been described in considerable detail with reference to certain preferred versions thereof, other versions are possible. Therefore, the spirit and the scope of the claims should not be limited to the description of the preferred versions contained herein.
