Abstract

A hospital bedside table cover is provided for a hospital bedside table and includes a top portion which is positioned on the table top of the table and which has a skirt portion extending downwardly from the edges of the top portion. A plurality of pockets of various sizes are provided on the downwardly extending skirt portion and are adapted to receive various personal items or articles. Some of the pockets have pockets secured to the outer side thereof. Some of the pockets are expandable.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention
This invention relates to a hospital bedside table cover and more particularly to a hospital bedside table cover which includes a top portion having a skirt portion extending downwardly therefrom and which is adapted to be positioned on a hospital or rest home bedside table. Even more particularly, this invention relates to a hospital bedside table cover wherein a plurality of article receiving pockets are provided in the skirt portion for receiving various personal items or articles.
2. Description of the Related Art
Hospital bedside tables are used extensively in hospitals, nursing homes, rest homes, etc. The bedside table normally is comprised of a wheeled base having a pedestal extending upwardly therefrom with a table top secured to the upper end of the pedestal. The bedside table may be positioned so that the table top is positioned over the bed for reading, eating, or other activities. Frequently, the bedside table is positioned at one side of the bed but is within reach of the patient. Patients frequently have many personal items such as magazines, cell phone, glasses case, chapstick, cordless phone, walkie-talkie, remote control, CDs, pens, medicine bottles, plastic cases, etc. There is simply not enough room on the bedside table top for those personal items with those personal items sometimes being stored in a cabinet near the bed but which is out of reach of the patient lying or sitting in the bed. This is especially true where the patient is semi-invalid or invalid.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

A hospital bedside table cover is provided for use with a hospital bedside table which includes a wheeled base, a pedestal extending upwardly from the base and a table top mounted on the upper end of the pedestal. The flexible cover of this invention includes a top portion which is complimentary in size and shape to the table top of the bedside table and has a skirt portion extending downwardly from the top portion which includes first and second side skirt portions and first and second end skirt portions. The skirt portions have a plurality of article receiving pockets formed therein with some of the pockets being positioned on the outer surface of other pockets. The pockets are of different sizes to accommodate different personal articles. The table cover of this invention provides easy access to the patient's personal articles or items since the patient may simply reach the articles stored in the pockets in the skirt portions.
It is therefore a principal object of the invention to provide a hospital bedside table cover.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hospital bedside table cover which includes a top portion having a skirt portion extending downwardly therefrom with the skirt portion having a plurality of pockets formed therein for receiving the patient's personal items or articles.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hospital bedside table cover which enables a patient to gain access to his/her personal items or articles.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a hospital bedside table cover which is washable.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a hospital bedside table cover which is durable in use, refined in appearance and economical of manufacture.
These and other objects will be apparent to those skilled in the art.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of the bedside table cover of this invention;

FIG. 3 is a perspective view illustrating the manner in which the bedside table cover of this invention is placed upon the table top of a bedside table; and

FIG. 4 is a perspective view illustrating the table cover of this invention mounted on the table top of the bedside table with personal items or articles stored in the various pockets provided on the skirt portion of the cover.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

The hospital bedside table cover of this invention is referred to generally by the reference numeral 10 which is adapted to be used with a conventional hospital bedside table 12. Most hospital bedside tables such as table 12 include a wheeled base 14 having a pedestal 16 extending upwardly therefrom and a table top 18 secured to the upper end of the pedestal 16. A typical table top 18 has end edges 20 and 22 and side edges 24 and 26. Typically, the table tops will have a width of approximately 14 inches and a length of approximately 30 inches.
Cover 10 is preferably comprised of a flexible washable material and is preferably comprised of a quilted material. Cover 10 includes a top portion 28 having a skirt portion 30 extending downwardly from end edges 32 and 34 and side edges 36 and 38 of top portion 28. Skirt portion 30 is comprised of end skirt portions 32′ and 34′ and side skirt portions 36′ and 38′. Normally, the skirt portion 30 will be one continuous piece of material which is stitched or sewn to the end edges 32 and 34 and side edges 36 and 38 of the top portion 28 with the terminal ends of the skirt portion 30 being joined together by stitching or the like. If the table 12 has the dimensions set forth above, the top portion 28 will be approximately 14.25 inches wide and approximately 30 inches long. Obviously, the dimensions of the top portion 28 will vary with the particular bedside tables with which the cover is going to be used. Preferably, the skirt portions 32′, 34′, 36′ and 38′ will hang down approximately 12.25 inches from the top portion 28.
As seen in the drawings, a plurality of panels having open upper ends are sewn or stitched to the outer surfaces of the skirt portions 32′, 34′, 36′ and 38′ to form pockets 40 having open upper ends. For example, skirt portion 32′ will have panels sewn thereto to create three or more pockets 40. As seen in FIG. 4, many different sizes and shapes of pockets 40 are provided thereon to accommodate various personal items or articles. Similarly, at least a pair of pockets 40 are provided on the skirt portion 34 as illustrated in FIG. 2. Skirt portion 36 preferably has a pair of larger pockets 40 formed therein by stitching as seen in FIG. 2. As seen, some of the pockets 40 are expandable. As also seen, some of the pockets 40 have pockets 40 sewn to the outer surface thereof.
The pockets 40 are able to accommodate or receive magazines 42, scissors 44, eyeglasses 46, purse 48, remote control 50, notepad 52, cards 54, yarn 55, knitting needles 56, phone 58, mirror 60, book 62 as well as chapsticks, CDs, medicine bottle, pencils, pens, etc.
The cover 10 is placed on the table top 18 of the table 12 as illustrated in FIGS. 3 and 4 and then the items are placed in the various pockets 40. The items or articles in the pockets 40 are within convenient reach of the patient inasmuch as they are always close at hand rather than being stored in a bedside cabinet.
The cover 10 is not only pleasing aesthetically but is convenient to use and is washable.
Therefore, it can be seen that the invention accomplishes at least all of its stated objectives.

Claims

1. In combination:

a hospital bedside table including a wheeled base, a pedestal having upper and lower ends, said pedestal being secured at its lower end to said wheeled base and extending upwardly therefrom, and a rectangular table top mounted on said upper end of said pedestal, said table top having first and second side edges and first and second end edges;

a flexible cover including a top portion complementary in size and shape to said table top adapted to be placed upon said table top, and a skirt portion extending downwardly from said top portion including first and second side skirt portions and first and second end skirt portions;

said first and second side skirt portions extending downwardly from said top portion adjacent said first and second side edge portions of said table top;

said first and second end skirt portions extending downwardly from said top portion adjacent said first and second end edges of said table top;

said skirt portions having inner and outer sides;

at least some of said skirt portions having a plurality of article receiving pockets secured thereto which are positioned at said outer sides thereof.

2. The combination of claim 1 wherein said pockets have different heights and different widths to accommodate articles having different dimensions.

3. The combination of claim 1 wherein said pockets have outside surfaces and wherein at least some of said pockets have pockets secured thereto and positioned at said outer surfaces thereof.

4. The combination of claim 1 wherein said cover is comprised of a washable material.

5. The combination of claim 1 wherein all of said skirt portions have a plurality of article receiving pockets positioned at said outer sides thereof.

6. The combination of claim 1 wherein at least some of said pockets are expandable.

7. The combination of claim 5 wherein at least some of said pockets are expandable.

8. The combination of claim 1 wherein said pockets are secured to said skirt portions by stitching.

9. The combination of claim 5 wherein said pockets are secured to said skirt portions by stitching.

10. The combination of claim 3 wherein said pockets are secured to said pockets by stitching.

11. The combination of claim 1 wherein said cover is comprised of a quilted material.

12. In combination with a hospital bedside table including a wheeled base, a pedestal having upper and lower ends, the pedestal being secured at its lower end to the wheeled base and extending upwardly therefrom, and a rectangular table top mounted on said upper end of said pedestal, the table top having first and second side edges and first and second end edges, comprising;

a flexible cover including a top portion complementary in size and shape to the table top adapted to be placed upon the table top, and a skirt portion extending downwardly from the top portion including first and second side skirt portions and first and second end skirt portions;

said first and second side skirt portions extending downwardly from the top portion adjacent the first and second side edge portions of the table top;

said first and second end skirt portions extending downwardly from the top portion adjacent the first and second end edges of the table top;

said skirt portions having inner and outer sides;

13. The combination of claim 12 wherein said pockets have different heights and different widths to accommodate articles having different dimensions.

14. The combination of claim 12 wherein said pockets have outside surfaces and wherein at least some of said pockets have pockets secured thereto which are positioned at said outer surfaces thereof.

15. The combination of claim 12 wherein said cover is comprised of a washable material.

16. The combination of claim 12 wherein all of said skirt portions have a plurality of article receiving pockets secured thereto which are positioned at said outer sides thereof.

17. The combination of claim 12 wherein at least some of said pockets are expandable.

18. The combination of claim 16 wherein at least some of said pockets are expandable.

19. The combination of claim 12 wherein said pockets are secured to said skirt portions by stitching.

20. The combination of claim 16 wherein said pockets are secured to said skirt portions by stitching.

21. The combination of claim 14 wherein said pockets are secured to said pockets by stitching.

22. The combination of claim 12 wherein said cover is comprised of a quilted material.
