Abstract

A resealable gift packaging with a concealed compartment accessible through a first opening and a second opening. The first opening is covered by a sealed openable cover. The second opening is selectively sealable by a resealable cover. A gift and message can be placed inside the resealable gift packaging to give the appearance to a person receiving the gift that the gift was purchased in the gift packaging and was not opened or accessed by the person giving the gift.

Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • This invention relates to a resealable gift packaging.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Typically a gift, such as a birthday gift, is packaged by either wrapping in paper or placing in a gift bag.
  • U.S. Patent Application Publication Number 2006/0185201, published Aug. 24, 2006, describes a greeting card and gift box whereby a person giving a gift inserts an interior message card inside a lid of the gift box. The gift box lid has a greeting card cover with a scored line hinge and break away attachment points so that the cover may be opened to view the interior message card. However, the gift box does not give the appearance that it is being opened for the first time and it will be evident to the person opening the gift that the person giving the gift merely removed the box lid, inserted the interior message card behind the greeting card cover and then replaced the box lid. This does not provide any element of surprise and awe that a personalized gift is inserted inside the box.
  • Japanese Patent Publication 2002-128088, published May 9, 2002, describes a hermetically sealable time capsule. The time capsule is a device in which items are placed and the device is then hermetically sealed and stored for a long period of time. However, the hermetically sealable time capsule is not suitable for instantaneous gift giving where a user removes a cover to a concealed compartment, inserts a gift into the compartment and then replaces the cover.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is directed to a resealable gift packaging that enables a user to place a customized gift in the gift packaging with the appearance that the person giving the gift has not accessed the concealed packaging. Because the resealable gift packaging is given the appearance that it is being opened for the first time, the person opening the resealable gift package has addition surprise and enjoyment in receiving a personalized gift in what appears to be a sealed purchased gift.
  • It is an object of the invention to provide an empty can which is selectively accessible to be used as packaging by a person wanting to give a personalized gift to someone in a sealed package.
  • In one aspect, the present invention resides in a gift packaging comprising a concealed compartment accessible through a first opening and a second opening, the first opening having a sealed openable cover, the second opening having a resealable cover positionable therewith such that a user can conceal a gift within the body through the second opening.
  • Further and other features of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art from the following detailed description of the embodiments thereof.

  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • FIG. 1 shows a preferred embodiment of the present invention which is a gift packaging can 2. The gift can 2 has body or concealed compartment 4 which is a hollow cylinder. A gift and/or gift card can be placed inside the concealed compartment 4. Also, a gift greeting, such as “Happy Birthday” (not shown) can be printed on the concealed compartment 4. A bottom end 3 of the concealed cylinder compartment 4 has an annular rim 6. A top end 5 of the concealed cylinder compartment 4 has a sealed openable covering 8.
  • The bottom end 3 of the cylinder 4 is open so that the gift can be inserted inside a cylinder 4 and concealed therein. As such, when a person given the gift opens the sealed openable cover 8, they have the impression that the person giving the gift has not accessed the inside of the cylinder 4 thereby enhancing the surprise and excitement of receiving a personalized gift in a sealed container.
  • The sealed openable cover 8 is preferably made of light metal, for example aluminium, and has a score line 10 circumscribing the circular cover 8 proximal to the circumference thereof. A tab 12 is fixed to a top surface 14 of the sealed openable cover 8 with a rivet 16. As such, opening of the sealed covering is achieved by manually lifting the tab 12 upwardly and away from the top surface 14, so that the tab 12 pivots about the rivet 16 and a front portion of the tab 18 exerts downward pressure on the top surface 14 near the score line 10. This pivoting action will cause the sealed openable covering to deform and break the score line proximal to the front end 18 of the tab 12. The sealed openable covering can then be completely removed by inserting a user's finger through the open hole 20 of the tab 12 and pulling upwardly so that the sealed openable cover 8 breaks away from the gift can 2 along the score line 10.
  • FIG. 2 shows the sealed openable covering 8 of the gift can 2 from a top view. As shown, an indent 22 is provided on the top surface 14 to make it easier for a user to place a finger underneath the tab 12 to lift the tab 12 up and away from the top surface 14.
  • FIG. 3 shows the bottom rim 6 of the gift can 2 from a bottom view. The rim 6 has in inwardly projecting ridge 24 which circumscribes an inner surface rim 6.
  • FIG. 4 shows the gift packaging can 2 in exploded view. To form the can 2, the bottom rim 6 is positioned at the bottom 3 of the cylinder 4 in the direction of arrow 26. The rim 6 is them crimped onto around the circumference of the bottom 3. The sealed openable cover 8 is positioned on a top circumference 5 of the cylindrical body 4 in the direction of arrow 28. The circumference of the top sealed openable cover 8 is crimped to the top circumference 5. Preferably, the hollow cylindrical body 4 is made of a tubular material. Preferably, the hollow cylindrical body 4 is made of metal, cardboard, glass, plastic, ceramic or wood. Preferably, the bottom rim 6 and top sealed openable covering 8 are made of metal, for example aluminium.
  • As shown in FIG. 5, the bottom opening of the concealed cylindrical compartment 4 is closed by a cover 30. The cover 30 comprises a substantially planar circular plate 32 with an annular flange 34 extending orthogonal from the plate 32. The flange 34 is positioned proximate to a circumference of the plate 32 and also has an annular projection 36 extending outwardly around an entire circumference of the flange 34. As such, an annular recess 38 is formed between adjacent surfaces of the flange 36 and circular plate 32 as shown in FIG. 5.
  • As such, when the bottom cover 30 is moved in the direction of arrow 30 to engage the rim 6, applying additional pressure in direction of arrow 40 on the cover 30 will cause the inner ridge 24 of the bottom rim 6 to be fitted in the annular recess 38, and the cover 30 will be held thereby.
  • A top cover 42 is also provided to be fitted over top of a sealed openable covering 8 by friction fit when moved in direction of arrow 44.
  • FIGS. 6 and 7 show the cover 30 in plan and perspective views, respectively. The cover 30 is preferably made of flexible plastic.
  • Although this disclosure has described and illustrated certain preferred embodiments of the invention, it is also to be understood that the invention is not restricted to these particular embodiments rather, the invention includes all embodiments which are functional, or mechanical equivalents of the specific embodiments and features that have been described and illustrated herein.
  • It will be understood that, although various features of the invention have been described with respect to one or another of the embodiments of the invention, the various features and embodiments of the invention may be combined or used in conjunction with other features and embodiments of the invention as described and illustrated herein.

Claims (9)

1. A gift packaging comprising a concealed compartment accessible through a first opening and a second opening, the first opening having a sealed openable cover, the second opening having a resealable cover positionable therewith such that a user can conceal a gift within the body through the second opening.
2. The gift packaging of claim 1, wherein the concealed compartment is a cylindrical hollow tube and the first opening and the second opening are respective opposing bases of the cylinder.
3. The gift packaging of claim 2, wherein the sealed openable cover has a score line circumscribing the sealed openable covering proximal to a circumference of the sealed openable cover and a hinged tab fixed to the sealed openable covering such that pivotal movement of the tab to exert force proximal to the score line creates rupture along the score line to enable removal of the sealed openable cover.

The gift packaging of claim 2, wherein the resealable cover is a circular plate having a flange extending substantially orthogonal to a plane passing through the plate circumscribing the plate proximate to a circumference of the plate, the flange being sized so that a circumference of the plate engages an inner rim of the second opening and is fixed thereto by friction fit.
5. The gift packaging of claim 4, wherein the flange has a recessed annulus sized to receive an inwardly projecting ridge of the second opening.
6. The gift packaging of claim 1, wherein the concealed compartment is a material selected from the group consisting of metal, cardboard, glass, plastic, ceramic and wood.
7. The gift packaging of claim 6, wherein the concealed compartment is metal.
8. The gift packaging of claim 7, wherein the metal is aluminum.
9. The gift packaging of claim 3, wherein the resealable cover is a circular plate having a flange extending substantially orthogonal to a plane passing through the plate circumscribing the plate proximate to a circumference of the plate, the flange being sized so that a circumference of the plate engages an inner rim of the second opening and is fixed thereto by friction fit.
